I haven't really been paying attention but i was wondering if every time server maintenance is scheduled if there is a patch implemented?
In the past several cases, yes. But this time SE listed is as system maintenance and not a world maintenance.
At the following time period, we will be performing system maintenance on FINAL FANTASY XIV. During this period, FINAL FANTASY XIV will be unavailable.
At the following time period, we will be performing maintenance on all Worlds. During this period, FINAL FANTASY XIV will be unavailable.
In both cases above they say FFXIV will be unavailable, but if you look at the underlined they say system maintenance on FFXI and maintenance on all worlds in the next. Typically on ones were they bring down the worlds for maintenance I'd guess you should expect a patch as that's what we've seen so far. In the case with the most recent maintenance however, they only said system maintenance. I think FFXI used to go down every few weeks for average maintenance, something that every MMO normally sees. During these times a patch isn't normally added in, they just use the time to tweak their servers, probably run some defragmentation if needed, dust the systems, whatever it is they normally do. Since their servers run 24/7 they do need to take them offline once and awhile to maintain them.
