Making gil in this game?Follow

Hello, all.
I am just wondering what I'm doing wrong here. I've been playing for approximately 2 weeks, am rank 10 MRD/PUG/FSH/Cooking and can barely afford keeping up with repair costs. I keep reading that making money is really easy in this game, but it seems to keep referring to the crafters (blacksmiths, goldsmiths, etc.) that are high-ranking and ahead of the competition.
I know that levequests offer some gil, but again, not a whole lot so far.

Any tips will be much appreciated.

the r10-20 levequests can give 5-15k gil a pop. If you trade in your other leves you also get a bonus to the gil amount, so trade in your highest star leves for the highest gil reward leve.

Other ideas would be to sell your shards/crystals. You can usually get at LEAST 3k per crystal, sometimes as much as 5k. Shards sell anywhere from 1-500 each.

Other ideas would be to start pumping out some of the crafting/repair mats people need. Any kind of nugget/plate/ingot of non-copper quality seems to sell moderately well. Also, to SAVE yourself a lot of gil, you might want to start repairing your own gear. Figure out what crafts you will need to repair your gear, and focus on those. Thus far, I have not ONCE used the repair NPC. It has probably saved me several 100k gil.

If you're wearing gear that is far above your rank (being 10), the repair costs are going to be much higher than they should be. Not only that, but they'll be far less effective.

Also, leves are one of the easiest ways to 1. make money 2. get loot to tell 3. meet people. Rank 10 leves can be a little stingy. Once you hit 13 the rank 20 leves will open up, which give a lot more gil.

Making money in an MMO is somewhat of a skill in and of itself. You need to know what's selling in what area, and hop on that item. Having no AH makes it more difficult, but something like selling gold/cloth/alch items in Ul'dah is kind of a no brainer. Utilize your retainer to what's going to be needed for your city.

farm crystals and shards
best money maker there is

<insert every crafter name here> WTB Wind Shards Earth Shards Lightning Crystals will pay with massive gil, first born, pretty much whatever you want.

I may be overstating a bit but i agree if you are not a ahead of curve crafter this is your best bet.

OP,

1: rank up to ~27 0r 28
2: Solo your 20 leves and when you can your 30 leves
3: sell the loot you get form leves
4: sell your shards and crystals from ranking up
5: you will be a multi millionaire very soon I promise you.

Think about this, wind shards can be farmed VERY easily outside of LL. On Istory wind shards can sell for ~300 per very fast. You can pull down 999 wind shards in a day killing sheep and puks. Just one stack of those wind shards can sell for upwards of 300k, repeat this proccess for a week and you are rich, include your leves and cha ching!

You don't need to get to 27 to solo 20 leves. I can solo them pretty much all on 1 star at R22 Conjurer

I ment to imply that 27 was needed to solo 30 leves. If that was unclear my bad.

ah ok ^^

I have to say I love that once you unlock the 30 leves you have 3 good leve camps to choose from to make good money on... so you actually can do all your leves in one region without teleporting - sure there may be better ones elsewhere but yeah - I dig this.

I've soloed r30 leves since r21 on my MRD (granted, my physical level is like 42...) ----- as long as there isn't an imp, though I probably could do those too if I got Punishing Barbs...

Wow!!! Thank you all for the excellent replies!
I am sitting on a ton of shards, so I'll start there.
Didn't realize they were so valuable :)
Thanks again to everyone that replied!

You can easily bazaar wind and earth shards for 300 each. If you shout for a sale of them at 200 each you will get insta-buyers.

You either want to kill star marmots or sheep, just farm loads of mobs you can easily kill. Your inventory will fill with shards and loads of stuff you can either npc for some quick cash or sell on your retainer. You will soon learn the vendor junk from what is useful.

I am honestly not being funny, but I never expected to see a thread asking for advice on making gil in this game. It is insanely easy.

When you can start taking puk, dodo and Aldgoat nanny you can make really nice money from the hides.
