Worth picking up?Follow

Im finally upgrading my computer and i was looking to pick this game up. Is it worth having? Im reading alot of bad reviews over it, but every game has people that complain about it. Ive played WoW FFXI EQ1&2 and a few other MMO's. I dont want to spend the money on a game that is dieing.

SO basically what im asking is, Is the game's population droping drastically or whats going on?

The game was released to early, SE has given players an extra 30 days free to try to stop some of the bleeding. Population on most servers is down by around 50% of what it was just 4-5 weeks ago.

Most people at this time would not suggest it. I would say the ps3 release was SE's real target date, so check back in March to see where it is at.

They have an update planned for within the next few weeks that should address some of the more glaring issues (PLEASE PLEASE OH PLEASE address some of the more glaring issues)

If you are on the fence I would wait until at least that time and see what the community feedback has to say.

I like it but it is definitely grindy and unfinished. That said, I wouldn't go so far as saying it is dying. It is definitely having issues, however.

I enjoy the game, but I don't recommend it to you because you probably won't like it (most people seem not to like it)

I would recommend you wait until December at least, as SE are supposed to be releasing a couple of patches to fix some of the issues people have complained about. I won't go into the issues people have complained about, but you can find the response from SE here:

And here:

If you're interested, my own experience has been as follows:

I played FFXI for years and loved it. After buying the FFXIV Collectors Edition and logging into the game for the first time I was initally very excited. However, I soon became very dissapointed with the game when I discovered all the issues it had, but I stuck with it hoping I would enjoy it anyway. Unfortunately I have pretty much lost interest in the game and haven't logged in for nearly a week; I just don't enjoy playing it and feel its more like a chore than something I want to keep playing.

I am still hoping that the game improves, but I'm becoming more and more inclined to cancel my subscription before payment starts and keep an eye on the forums to see if things improve. Maybe I'll give it another go in 6 months.

Hope this helps.

I think this game will be good in March. Check back here then. That said, I enjoy it now. It just seems like a lot of people don't.

I enjoy this game very much. As a person asking if its worth it.. i say it will be. In its current state it may turn some people away, and other will enjoy it as i do. To say 50% of the population has left is a tad bit of an exageration. My server still has quite a bit of people on it. I dont want numbers pulled out of thin air to sway your decision to buy the game. If you arent hurting for money.. buy it. Test it out for yourself. Yes i agree that there is a lack of content.. and that there isnt a sort function.. and a plethora of other issues. Despite that.. im still having fun. Within the next 2 quite a few of these issue will be fixed. Just go into the game understanding its current state. Here is an example of what i mean. Say SE adds some NM.. or adds some quests. Well not that content is low level content. So the people waiting for the content finally join all of us that have been here all along, just to find out they have to grind and level anyways to access some of that content.

I look at it like this -- While there are obviously a lot of issues that need to be addressed, I look at this in an oppurtunistic way. This is a perfect time to get all of your characters up to par, get your bank full of cash, learn most of the teleportation points, get your crafting skills up, etc... -- IF you can stand the lag/multitude of problems. -- That way, when the game does get patched up and smoothed out, you are all ready to go. So, it really boils down to whether the current issues outweigh your love for gaming. For many people, the issues indeed do.

If I had known more about this game, and been in the position of the OP, I would have never bought this game. After playing open beta and then buying the CE, I realize I enjoy some very specific aspects about this game that keep me playing. It doesn't hurt too that right now I don't have to pay a subscription fee. I've vested 80 dollars into this, and I'm going to milk it for what it's worth.

Try to get your hands on a buddy pass.

Try Vindictus. Then once you get tired of it, check back with FFXIV. Might have a winner.

I'm glad I bought this game despite the bad reviews. Been enjoying the ride so far and still enjoying what is there to do and what is yet to come. After all, the only person that can tell me if I'm going to like something or not is me right, so either take a leap of faith and buy it or listen to what others say and don't buy it.

Seems to be a 50% love/hate ratio from what I've been observing for this game so toss a coin!

At this time... no dont even bother buying the game. Give it 1 year time to see if it either survives and if any improvements are made.

In any case, the already insignificant number of players left in the servers will be mostly gone by December once SE delivers their big failpatch.

Its not really that its bad, there are just a lot of things that need to be fixed. Wait until the ps3 release and try it then things should be sorted out by then.

You could pick up Standard Edition new on Amazon Markets for ~$30, I think. Now that the pre-order bonuses are over, I would spend as little as possible (lower your risk).
