Silly Dog, Stop Chasing Your Tail!Follow

Ever watched a dog chase their tail? Sometimes you feel sorry for them, sometimes it just makes you laugh a bit, but now, what if this same dog was chasing their tail in the middle of a busy road, and everyone else was affected by this, and you just wished the dog would stop being so ignorant, and would just move out of your way so you could get things going!

You just wanted to scream out your window "Silly dog, "your ***" is the reason you will never catch your tail"

Now compare "Player A", who from now on will be refreed to by thier ingame name: Reely Stoopid, with dog chasing their tail.

Dog Chasing Tail:

"Ooh what's that, I want it"

"You will never escape me"

"Hey stop running from me"

"Why is the world spinning"

"I don't feel so good"

"I am going to go puke and then take a nap, but I will get you next time"

Reely Stoopid:

"I need new shiny weapon to rank up my class some more"

"This Battlecraft ward is crowded with people selling crap that does not belong here, this is crazy"

"Hey...there is my retainer, I wonder if any of my Rat pelts or Gridanian walnuts +2 sold"

"Zomg...2 Rat pelts sold, I made 500 gilz...I knew putting my retainer here would pay off"

"Now, where is weapon x, this is getting annoying, been searching for an hour"

"This game sucks, I am going to go log and go to the forums now and tell everyone how dumb SE is, and that we just need a **** AH"

Anyone else see the similarity?

You know, Reely Stoopid not only affects others directly, but also indirectly as well, here is how:

As you can see from my sig, I have pretty much every craft leveled and am self sufficient. I make all my own gear, weapons, tools, etc...

I also like to make gil off what I craft and help out other players by selling it cheap at the same time.

A week ago I was going to level PLG, so I made myself some Bone Hora (Level 6 PLG Knuckles) and I noticed that I had almost a full stack of Blacklip Oysters. I decide that I will make 8-9 of them and sell them in the Battlecraft ward for cheap.

I port to Battlecraft ward, an after 10 minutes the 500 retainers load up. I try to summon my retainer and start crafting. I get this message when I try to summon "Ward is full, no more retainers can be summoned here" something along those lines.

So now I decide just to go back some Chocobotail Saws, and sell them in the Tradescraft ward, which isn't horribly over crowded.

Ever since, I have not even attempted to craft any armor or weapons to sell. I can craft them, but even if I can get into one of those wards, what is to say people will be able to sift through the crap and find my retainer. For now I will stick to crafting weapons and armor for myself, friends and LS mates as needed, and I will continue to sell my saws, plumed axes, and other tradescraft and fieldcraft tools in those wards, seeing I can go there and rent stand, and log on the next day to see everything sold.

So Mr. Reely Stoopid, please stop being silly and chasing your tail, so the rest of us can continue forward!

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

So by your reasoning if I have nothing to sell on my retainer at all then the market ward will suddenly not be crowded and people will be selling exactly what I'm looking for. Oh... kay?

No, the problem is the way the system is built. There's not the correct incentive for people to sell in the correct area and therefore they don't. You can blame it on the players all you want but the fact is that the problem is the system. You can scream at the ocean and expect it to change, or you can build a system that takes reality into account. Humans are humans.

It was hard to figure out your point through your metaphor, but if you mean that by me not selling or buying in wards I'm somehow ruining the game well sorry I'm with the thousands others who don't have a full day everyday to spend in MMOs. I have a life and organize my time to achieve the things I want to.

I gotz a better idea.

Mr. SE, fix the game and put in a AH.

It's nice that you make your own gear and all. But, I get the impression you avoid the market wards not only because of people selling crap in the wrong ward, but also because you find it more "efficient" to make your own gear.

I think he meant selling stuff other than what is designated for the particular ward that is causing the problem, but the problem with that is the way the system is setup there is no way arount it. you only have one retainer, say you sell armor, are you not going to list the other junk you have to sell on your one retainer?.. of course you will.

thats the major flaw in this market system.

Guess you completely missed it. All I was saying is that those who create the problems in the wards by selling in the wrong area, are most likely those who complain about it the most. I am not saying everyone who complains sells in the wrong wards, but I am sure alot do.

Mr. Reely Stoopid has one lonely retainer just like the rest of us. One retainer + multiple wards = Impossible to sell all your crap in the right wards in anything even remotely resembling an efficient manner. Now if Mr. Reely Stoopid had just marmot pelts to sell he might be in the right wards but the like the rest of us Mr. Reely Stoopid is trying to sell all the dumbass crap the 8 gazillion mobs dropped on his way to rank 12 on ONE RETAINER.

On a side note, I used to smoke pot with Mr. Reely Stoopid and we would have a **** ton of fun talking alot of smack about Mr. Soapbox Crafter. Sounds like you two might be friends. Enjoy the toilet bowl. Oops, I mean FFXIV. Honest mistake since they are both filled with human excrement.
See ya in the spring.

It isn't that hard really.

A) Make retailers summonable via the bells at anytime under any conditions, from any city.
B) Make the retailers appear in a random spot in every ward corresponding to the items they have for sell/purchase.
C) Either eliminate stands, or charge a gil fee for the chance to pop in a stand instead of a random spot

The current implementation is like if they let you sell an armor on the crystal menu of FFXI's auction house, there are some things that must be restricted by the system.

If you arent selling anything that belongs in that ward your retainer should move to the next appropriate ward. So lets say Reeely Stoooopid (btw I liked your analagy alot ;P) is selling 5 bone hora and 4 stacks of moko grass. he puts his retainer in the battlecraft ward to sell the hora, they all sell in a few hours. But hes asleep and wont log on for 2 days due to work. Once the last hora is sold his retainer should go to the next appropriate ward (in this case the clothiers ward).

If its too hard to code the game to auto-select the best ward, when placing a retainer you could have an option to indicate a secondary ward should all the (selected) items sell out. So you would put maybe a check mark next the horas, choose your secondary ward and then your retainer could move if needed.

I suppose theres alot of issues if the secondary ward was full or something (and I still feel people wouldnt use it right), but itd help I think.

And I see 100% full retainers selling only moko grass, marmot meat, and other low level mob drops in the 1st ward all the time...
