518 peole on Fabul at the time of this post. 96 people in Limsa, and I can see about 20 AFKs in front of adventurers guild alone (myself included). I see less and less people online each passing day. Hate to see what the population will be like when monthly fees are activated.

This is all just a fanboy civil war. Some are hurt that SE gave them such a crap game, the others are hurt that anyone would call it crap.

They should give the players free character migration instead of merging servers at random. But this is a feature that will take loooong to implement so never mind.

528 people on Saronia at the moment. All time low for me anyway.

When you get down to the 500's that's just.... not good.

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

568 on Rabanastre currently, and I've seen it this way for more than a couple nights. We didn't even need to hit the end of the free trial to dip into the 500s.. It's pretty discouraging considering how many of those are AFK bazaars and RMT =(

I'm not going to read the whole thing to see if anyone pointed this out or not but....

WoW is ready to launch Cataclysm. Many, many old WoW players have dropped their current MMO's and have been power leveling their WoW characters for the last month and a half. Blizzard is really changing it up, it's not just another top-level endgame expansion from what I've heard... it's a major mechanics change. So it's hard to say how long it will keep other MMO pop's down, but it IS happening with pretty much all of them right now.

I'm not saying any of the other theories are wrong, but WoW is the major factor right now, and SE just doesn't have enough content to hold people to this game yet.

The other main reasons I've seen people leave are either because they can't ever find Gear to purchase, or because there doesn't really seem to be anything to do other than grind or craft.

I used to play wow and I like the idea of cata but i'm having fun in FFXI so I havent even bothered to re-sub to wow yet and I surely would go nowhere after a game update on my current game if it was decent. If you are having fun in your current MMO you won't run back to wow and if you do(even worse after an update) the chances you come back are pretty minimal, especially if it's so new and you don't have much time invested.
