Okay, first off I want to say that I have been a fan of Squaresoft (and SE) since my childhood. I have loved their games up until around FFXII released. Since then, I have found it a bit difficult to play with the aplomb I did when I was younger. It may just be age catching up with me though, as I am finding it difficult to play any game quite as often as I did when younger. Gone are the days of being able to wait 4 hours just to kill a giant scorpion, as are the days of racing my chocobo while humming "Mambo de Chocobo" to myself.
Now that that has been said, FFXIV had a very similar effect on me. For months upon months I was so excited for it, and even upon release I was playing it nonstop for hours at a time (the !!! part). Then suddenly, I felt as if the wind had gone out of my proverbial sails. Between the lack of things to do, thinly veiled grind, and general lack social interaction within the game, I am currently feeling somewhat empty (the ... part).
I know its not 100% the game itself, it is partly me evolving as a human being, but I really find it difficult to stare at a screen where no one even replies to [Looking for Members] [Guildleve] or "Does anyone feel like doing some leves?" The game was quite lively until recently as well, it really seems as if I am not the only one who has the same feelings; just one of the few who is verbal about it in a civil manner.
To sum up my post in 1 paragraph: MMOs are boring without constant social interaction of some sort. This interaction can be any sort of thing, good or bad, kind or mean, painful or enjoyable. Without social interaction, namely talking of some sort, a MMORPG becomes less of a "world" and more of a "game." It I simply want a "game" I have an entire shelf of them waiting to interact with me more than the people in Eorzea, players and non-players alike.

So please, whenever you play the game, be social, it will make the game more of a world and less of a grind.

Get back to me when they raise the chat character/text limit. Then we'll talk.

... get it? It's funny because once they raise the character/text limit, then we can talk, and not have to deal with miserably brief chat messages that make conversation impossible and deter us from socializing.

Ahaha ... ha ... haaaa ... yeah. :(

I'm part of a very healthy and active Linkshell, so there is always someone to talk to. Try looking around for a good Linkshell and you'll find the social aspect you (and I) crave! It's always a good idea to ask around for a group in camps as well. You never know who your next best-friend might be, and teaming with them on leves is a good way to socialise.

Life is all about enjoying oneself, FFXIV doubly so.

Yeah, Lune, I know what you mean, just had the last part of my shout cut off while looking for people for guildleves...and no one has replied as of yet :(

And glitters, that's what I've been trying all week, no replies recently for me. Makes me a bit sad.

What server are you on? I may move. I find the people on Selbina to be very anti-social.

Is it people being anti social or is it the crappy chat system?

If it was convenient to chat while in combat or while crafting then I think the game would be more social.

I think it's a mix of both, but much less of the latter.

Chat system. Let's see...

1) There's a limit on how long your sentence can be. And it's too f*cking low.
2) Can't chat while crafting/gathering/fighting (this may have been fixed though, I don't know it's been a while since I attempted conversating in this game)
5) No chat channels, everyone has to shout for anything they have to say
6) Finding out how to reply (spacebar + ctr + R) w/o typing out a name took a while to figure out FOR EVERYONE I KNOW.

There's probably a lot more that could be added to that list. All I know is almost 90% of my attempts to have a conversation in this game have been hampered in someway by system limitations.
