I know nothing can be said for sure but because SE are too cool to explain how anything works but even theories would help. Has anyone come up with a theory on how elemental stats increase the chances of crystals and shard drops??

If I want fire, earth and wind should I set set these 3 equal?

Do certain mobs drop certain crystals/shards regardless of what your stats are?

Does having a certain stat high mean that a mob will drop more (in quantity) of that type of crystal/shard or does it just increase chances of that type dropping?

crystals are hard to get but yeah you can get shards in the way you set them want fire put more stat on fire, alc can craft shards & HQ crystal from fine sand. you can get clusters that you can make them into crystals but you have to kill elementals.

To setting the three stats: no, because you dont want your defense to lack against other mobs besides those three

To mobs dropping regardless: obviously I cant be 100% on this because even in low levels we have elemental stats but I get regular fire crystals from moles when my highest elemental stat is lightning (and fire being least).

Havn't managed to test anything out but to me I dont see any differences since I have less lightning shards/crystals than other ones.

Mobs drop three kinds of shards/crystals as far as I can tell. So for example, Shroom mobs drop ice, earth and water. Puk mobs drop water, lightning, and wind (if I remember correctly) etc. I am not sure if your elemental resistance will make a difference insofar how common each of these drops are from the mob.

When you are gathering your elemental stats are VERY noticeable. I almost never get any of the elements that I haven't put many points into. Some regions are more likely to drop certain kinds of shards than others - Limsa - which has Llymlaen as patron (wind), Ul'dah has Nald'thal as patron (fire) and Gridania which has Nophica (earth) - I believe (without having done scientific testing ) that each city state is more likely to yeild shards that correspond to it's patron guardian.

Q. I don't have enough of the crystals I need for synthesis. Is there a way to get more of the certain crystal type I need?
A. Other than looting fresh corpses, crystals can also be obtained through gathering. Further, for Disciples of the Land, allotting elemental bonus points to a certain element will result in a greater likelihood of procuring crystals of that type. Location is another factor to consider, as some places will yield more of certain crystal types than others.

Lightning boils water.
Water muddies earth.
Earth grounds lightning.

From The Call of Adventure.

It's a cycle:

Lightning beats Water,
Water beats Earth,
Earth beats Lightning.

So for your question, Lightning should be strong vs Water.

I'm pretty sure Water > Fire and not Earth, in FFXI it was Water > Fire > Ice > Wind > Earth > Lightning > Water

Read The Call of Adventure at any Aetheryte. There are two elemental cycles. Thunder > Water > Earth and Fire > Ice > Wind
