My Only Concern with the Market WardsFollow

I was talking about this with a friend of mine, and as of yet haven't personally seen this brought up as a potential problem, so forgive me if this has been mentioned in another thread.

I personally have no real issue with the Market Ward system, and with the imminent search function I think it can work out well enough. However, one thing that came up while discussing FFXIV with my friend is that if SE allows you to purchase multiple retainers then what is to stop RMT accounts from filling up Wards to maximum capacity and literally pushing out actual players by using multiple retainers?

Correct me if i am wrong but SE did mention the eventual capability of having multiple retainers, correct? I fear that if they do that then one of the concerns of an Auction House (undercutting/monopolization) may actually be more of a problem using the current system than if SE just implemented a FFXI-like AH.

What do think? Are my fears unfounded or do you agree that a RMT takeover of the Market Wards seems imminent if SE allows more than one retainer per account?

I would believe that even if you can have multiple retainers, you probably aren't allowed to place more than one in a single ward.

Depending on how many RMT go this route and how profitable they can make it (since the whole idea is to make masses of gil to sell to people) I suppose they could crowd a few of the popular wards, with multiple accounts. I would think that SE would simply instance more of those particular wards.

Well depending on the Wards maximum occupancy, even if you can only have one retainer in each ward, or they allow multiple instances of the same ward, I would think that would over complicate the system, as far as keeping track of where your retainer is, and the fact that one RMT can still take up multiple slots across multiple wards.

Some of the wards are already quite full, even with such low server population, I would be afraid to see how crammed the Wards may get with a higher population (and with higher population comes more RMT to counter the demand for gil.)

I don't know. It will be very interesting to see how it plays out. At the very least I do hope they increase the size of the bazaar. On FFXI your max inventory was not separate from your bazaared goods. You could bazaar everything in your inventory all at once. For now the bazaar and inventory are completely separate space, and the selling of items is heavily restricted by the fact that any one player can only sell a maximum of 20 things at once.

Hopefully if things start looking bleak SE will be quick to make any necessary modifications. For now I suppose I will wait and see how the new search function addition plays out.

Might as well count on RMT farmers/sellers being the only ones to buy all those retainers.

How many players do you really think will be willing to pay $25+ a month in order to have a retainer in every ward (at $1 per month per retainer + $12.99 per month sub)?
