Higher rank Weapons and SP Follow

Ok, so today I am Rank 24 Lancer and I got a Tortoiseshell Harpoon which is 5 ranks higher than my current rank. Well a good 11 size party decided to go fight some efts which I was gaining 500sp per kill. So I started to watch what was giving me my most SP per hit and this is what I noticed... My heavy thrust when proc'd on both the hit and debuff gave me ~250sp and my Comrade in Arms was giving me ~100 on proc.

Though my TP attacks which the three I use are Trammel, Moonstrike, and Leg Sweep were all not procing for any SP gain. All three attacks have the ability to give me attack SP and debuff SP gains, but no matter how many times I used them they never proc'd for any SP gain. We fought at least 20 efts, a few crabs, some orobons, and a few jellyfish and never did my TP attacks give me SP gains. I was using all three TP attacks once a fight with the efts if not twice. At least twice during crabs and maybe one or two during the orobons and jellyfish.

After noticing this I switched to my Brass Spear +1 which is 8 ranks below me. The first time I used Trammel I proc'd on both damage and debuff SP gain and after the weapon switch I started to gain here and there on TP moves some for damage and some for debuff and sometimes both.

Can anyone back me up on this? I don't want to throw out bad info, but it seemed pretty solid or I just had some really bad luck.

SP gain is so random I would chalk this up to bad luck or coincidence.

Well, I'm currently a marauder 23. I have both storm axe (21) and iron war axe (26) on me. And iron axe gets lower stats.

So maybe you're getting higher accuracy on your old weapon and thus getting more rolls on it?

I have been playing this since Collectors Edition release I wouldn't post here if I sincerely thought it could be chalked up to mere randomness. I know the difference between random and not happening.

Actually the Tortoiseshell Harpoon gives me better stats on both attack and accuracy but only by a couple of points due to level difference over my rank 16 brass spear.

PS: If my theory is correct it should only effect the person on weapons that are 4+ ranks higher than the current wielder. Because weapons and armor start to lose their diminishing properties when within 3 ranks of the recommended rank for the piece of gear.

I play CON and THM and I hate crafting so I carry multiple weapons on my person at all times for each job. This gives me a unique perspective in that I get to "test" multiple weapons in a static party setting (different weapons, same people in party, same mobs, same strategies, etc.)

I have four (4) weapons in rotation right now on my THM: two (2) scepters and two (2) staves. Some are optimal rank appropriate, some way below my current rank, and some way over my current rank.

Unfortunately, I haven't recognized ANY trend or pattern by which I could drawn any conclusions about SP gains with different weapons. I can absolutely testify to my experience with weapons degrading / losing durability much faster if you aren't at or above the optimal rank. I can also absolutely testify to the fact that SP gains are affected by weapon condition.

Agreed with degrading weapons against current rank weather much higher or lower will degrade faster and also SP gains are affected by condition for melee users you will do less damage and have a less chance to hit so therefor less SP.

Though to add to my original comment like I should have the Tortoiseshell harpoon was brand new so no gear damage while the Brass Spear was around 50%.
