I think ever since FFVII where I needed to name my characters for the first time, the hardest decision to make in the beginning of the game is to name my characters.

I literally went through several sleepless nights in order to find a name for my character in ffxiv before i got it, and i am sure there is a lot of people out there who spent a lot of time coming up with their names.

I would be interesting to know the stories behind your character's name.

I would start.

the last word of my asian name is 鑫 which is made up of 3 characters 金 which means gold. So, I have 3 (tri) gold, made up a word that is in a tringle shape, so i thought triangold is very appropriate.

as for my in game name: mac saomai

mac is the same sound of my real life name, and it is a humberger

saomai is hong kongnese' bite site seafood snack it is really delicious, and i thought that's what some bigger monsters in game will think of when they see my little lala... hmmmm a nice delicious bite size snack :P

so what's yours?

Gadhelyn was my character's name in XI, it's from D&D, the god of outlawry, feasting and mischief.

Appledore was one of the surnames listed as being usual in the Big People of the village of Bree in Fellowship of the Ring.

I actually inherited Osarion years ago from a friend of mine.

I was playing Dark Age of Camelot (RiP... what an awesome game), and was playing my account with two characters.

Anyway, my buddy was developing his Shadowblade but decided to stop playing, and gave me his account. The characters name was Osarion. I ended up loving the class so much that I made that my main character, and the name just kinda stuck with me throughout the other MMO's I've played since then. Plus, it's a pretty unique name, which I like.

Lemuria is a name I used on many other MMOs. I'd heard it somewhere before and it rolled off the tongue, so it stuck. The 'Glitterhands' comes from the fact I often play mages and while casting there is often sparkles or glows associated with doing so.

It wasn't until AFTER I'd gotten into the game and started my new life as a conjurer I realised that yes, their hands really DO glitter in this game! One point goes to foresight!

In XI my name is Seiferdincht, but everyone just calls me Seif so in XIV it was shortened to:

Seif Dincht (such great characters)

I use "Seif" in any game that lets you choose your character name as the name generation process is too much responsibility to throw on me within the first minutes of playing a new game.

+The name makes some people *blush* which is fun.

Okay, this is going to sound very dumb all listed out, but why not?

- started online career with cute, but Mature Rating name
- grew up. no longer wanted R-rated name, so went for Lyonesse, after book by Jack Vance I was reading at the time
- got shortened to lyon, very quickly.
- dubbed sexylyon by a sysop, while being chased around a couch
- stuck with sexylyon for a few years, until realised I could no longer run around a couch without having heart flutters
- went back to lyon
- wrote long winded collaborative story featuring a thief. needed name. she ended up Jade Szano.
- signed up to gmail, lyon was taken. in fit of annoyance, signed up as jadylyon
- eventually shorted to jady
- realised at FFXIV login screen, jady was a little too cutesy. I am no longer cute, as well as only **** when I **** well feel like it.
- did google research on types of jade. kingfisher jade was in the running. also, colorado jade.
- decided i was not feeling very birdlike, or wanting a dusty hat and a whip. felt more regal, majestic and on top of the world, able to command vast fleets
- signed in as Imperial Jade

this my sad, sad story of How I Got My Eorzean Name.

Mine is a throwback to my old D&D days. I'd try to pick occupational names like in medieval days where names like Smith or Taylor or Miller originated. Interestingly, I had a high school football coach named Slaughter.

So it was either Gut Spraygore or
Rip Bloodmist
Gut Bloodgutter
Matt Viscera
Constantine DeBoweler
Spurt Braintosser
Phineas Bedwetter
etc...

Reelik as in Relic, "De" is the spanish for "from" and Leo, cause my zodiac sign is Leo, and as a Saint Seiya Fan, used the nomenclature of name and sign. That's how it becomes Reelik de Leo, or Reelik DeLeo.

Hawkeye: From 'Riza Hawkeye', favorite character from Full Metal Alchemist.. I just finished watching this series and was trying to decide on a last name!!

Either way, I like the combination of names, so I stuck with it~

Most think mine is a Sephiroth spoof. Especially since most people just call me "Seph." But I came up with the name because I wanted it to have meaning.

Seph is Egyptian for wise, and Richard, or Rick for short, means brave. So the name means wise and brave -- Seph-rick.

Firozia Nitefire gonna be my name. While playing several mmo and watching several anime. I started to write a story about a dracatith (cat humnoid/ dragon humonoid half breed) (or in my story catrili and dracadith half breed) she had a power over fire and had the tones of flames. She was named after the fire lotus. A flower that bordered the 2 races home lands. It was a half breed flower and rare. the base leaves was scaled like as such flowers where in the dracadith homeland and petles that were tiny flames that were not hot to the touch. the fire lotus is also known as the firosia and named the girl half breed firozia.
I use the name firozia in ffxi and plan on too in ffxiv.

Being a huge sci-fi nerd I took my name from Stargate SG1. Lantash was Martouf's symbiote from the Tok'ra. I didn't want to take the name of a well known character and I also really liked that name. Sadly, I spelled it wrong as Lantesh and it just kind of stuck. Oops.

As for Silverstar, well I suppose it's a bit generic, but I felt that it flowed well with Lantesh.I was originally going to go with Silverrain as sort of a Bladerunner homage (like tears in the rain; I told you I'm a sci-fi nerd :p) but in the end felt that Lantesh Silverstar rolled off the tongue better.

Well it started back in XI when I was making my character. Towards the end of the loooong update I decided to make me a cup of ramen noodles. I came back to find the update was installed and started the game for the first time.

I selected my job and race pretty quickly then came to the naming part of the creation...and promptly sat there for a good 10 minutes trying to figure out a name when I noticed the empty cup of noodles to the side. I typed in Noodles, clicked submit and the rest is history.

I later found out about ZAM but the name Noodles was taken. So I went with CupDeNoodles instead. It was a simple decision when it came to naming my character in XIV, that being Noodle Cup.

Mostly Leeloo Digitalis is straight from The 5th Element movie character Leeloo Dallas. I had that as one of my beta characters. Once I decided to go with the lalafell I knew I was keeping Leeloo, but started searching for last names. Came across Digitalis(type of flower, some can be poisonous) and that fit perfect for my theme of a cute little lalafell chick with an evil side. That had to be it. Also worked out nicely that it sounds quite similar to Dallas still.

TwistedOwl is a complicated play off of my real name. Without giving away too much on that, it's a bit of a stretch from taking some of my real name backwards & using a foreign language to somehow come up TwistedOwl.

Believe it or not 'Edy' was a randomly generated name from FFXI. When it came up I thought it sounded so 'normal' compared to all the other names I saw that I just thought 'yes I'll take that please!'. My second name gave me many sleepless nights and I must admit I was very torn when it came to my final final fantasy 14 name. In Beta I created a miqote character and called her Sandy Oria, which I really liked (hopefully FFXI players out there will spot the obvious) and it was the place I created my character in FFXI. After much deliberation I decided that as I am of the male species in real life I just couldn't bring myself to be a female character in a game unless forced to, so I created a Hyur male. Looking for that second name eventually brought me to thinking of all the great times I had in FFXI and on my particular server Midgardsormr (now sadly gone and everyone moved to Qeutzacotle -unsure of spelling). So I stuck with 'Sormr' as my second name. Strange as I have met two other players on Besaid with the same secondname, one I knew from Midgardsormr (Hey Mya :) and the other guy never answered my 'Hey brother!' /tell.

Well, I am a huge...HUGE Elder Scrolls Fan. So on XI, I named my characters Mazken and Aureal after a Daedric race sworn to protect the God of Madness, Sheogorath. My mule is named Jyggalag, the Daedric God of Order, the true form of Sheogorath before he was driven made by the other Daedric Gods who were jealous of his power.

My 14 name is from The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, the first Elder Scrolls I played. Her name is Indoril Nerevar, the true name of the hero of Morrowind.

Oh and the sur name Autumsun, was once again trying to find a "fantasy" flavored surname..played a week before i realized I once again mispelled it.

I have switched my name since FFXI. My name in FFXI was Nighstalker (meant to be Nightstalker), It was actually a typo I didn't catch for a REALLLLLY long time till I was like lv.30+ (how I didn't notice it for that long I'll never know lol) and when I did notice it I didn't want to restart so I kept it. Well after several years I quit FFXI and went to WoW with some buddies and I carried over my typo name Nighstalker for my own touch of originality. After playing WoW for a bit I got tired of seeing the typo that had been in my face for a good 6 years by this time lol so I made a new character and thought up the name Kratore (Kra-tor) which came from some thinking and altering of the word crater. And now in FFXIV my name is Kratore Jones (the Jones part coming from Jones soda because it is tasty :P) Thats the story behind my MMO names :)

Name is Cyrus Strife.

The name Cyrus I've used forever. I originally derived it from playing around with the name Cyan from FF6 because that was my favorite character. I later found out that Cyrus is also the coolest character in Chrono Trigger.

However, Cyrus didn't have a last name in Chrono Trigger so since I was playing a final fantasy game I figured I'd jack Cloud Strife's last name.

So basically I just combined the names of the coolest RPG characters I could thing of.

Character Name: Fusoya Blacktooth

I was VERY apprehensive about using my name in FFXIV since as most probably know FuSoYa is the Lunarian from FFIV and I didn't want to be another dude who just uses character names from the series they are playing. The thing is, I've been using it as my handle on forums for almost a decade know as well as on other MMOs or MUDs.

So, that's where it comes from, a rather obscure character from an older FF game.

As for the Blacktooth... well who doesn't love bein' BlacktOOOOOOOOOOOOOth?

Perrin is a rapage of the Latin word Peregrinus which means Wanderer

since I had to use a last name, I figured I'd stay with the Latin theme...

At first I debated wheter to use Crocheteur which is French for Theif (as it's my favorite class type in most games and because Perrin sounds more French than Latin since it's butchered)

Ultimately I settled on Bellator which means Warrior

So while it might not be correct my name is loosely based on Latin for what I percieve to be

Wandering Warrior

For what it's worth, my first MMORPG when I was about 12 was Sierra Onlines The Shadow of Yserbius... in that game I made a mistake I didn't make again until this game... I meant to name my character Haplo (from the Death Gate Cycle novels) but in my head I'd always read it as Halpo. Playing with mostly adults in that game I was constantly informed that I was a dogfood brand. I vowed never to name a character after a book name ever again... Just in case.

Obviously there is a Perrin in WoT, but I wasn't thinking about that unfortunately when I made Perrin the first time in Red Moon Online and have used it ever since. I get the occasional WoT ?s, but honestly I didn't enjoy the series after the first few books. I used the name because I like the idea of a wandering rogue. It's in my personal nature to fiercly fight for things in the now... and then kinda just move on...

Mcboo Deux -

This goes way back for me. I've been a huge fan of KRS-One and Boogie Down Productions for a long long time and used to go see him perform. When I first got a computer and created an email addy back in the day it was mcboo@ and I've used it as an online monicker ever since. Mcboo was a memeber of the BDP crew and it was a nod to my fandom haha. I was Mcboo in FFXI and thus I just went with Mcboo Deux as in my second incarnation. Plus it was short and rhymed (I'm a fan of shorter character names in FF as well because making people typing /tell kkajshdflkas ashdfkaswerwel is such a pain).

I use stylistic spellings of the literal words of my name. Epidemic Optics just looks boring imo. Used this name when I joined a counter-strike clan back in 2000 since I was known for sniping heads. I usually just roll with Epedemic now if there's no last name option as to not confuse people.

I believe you mean Neuromancer, not Necromancer. Slight difference there.

Now I'm inspired to dump my Roegadyn and start a Hyur named Dixie Flatline. On the other hand, I could keep my Roegadyn and just name him Screaming Fist.
