i went mytological with my characters name something that no one would probly have, looks like there is a use for mythology.

Indira Clíodhna(klee-un-ah)

indira: Means "beauty" in Sanskrit. This is another name of Lakshmi, the wife of the Hindu god Vishnu.

Clíodhna: From the Irish clodhna meaning ’shapely.’ In Celtic myth Clíodhna was an Irish Goddess who fell in love with Caibhan (Kevin) a mortal.

One name I used in ffxi was Kilta i made it up to be a celtic name, kilt+a. A name I used in ff crystal chronicals. Turned out to be a keltic word meaning "a guild" kinda funny. I may use this name with my real last name maybe the true gaelic name. :) gaelic is the Irish mother tongue my ancestry is from county cork. which is why my name is Irishclass777 :)

I've been nicknamed Slax since I went to college and the name stuck for years (some people still call me that 16 years later). I wanted to go with Pandemonium as my last name as it was my original FFXI server, but the game would not let me (either taken already or not allowed, not sure which), so I just took Asura as that's the server Pandemonium was merged into.

My "minion" I named Lunchboxx because that was my primary mule for 5+ years in FFXI. He was patterned after Silent Bob, Kevin Smith's role in most of his movies, because I chose a short Galka and thought it would be a funny joke for the few people that might get it. Unfortunately he does not sell mind altering substances outside of one of the shops, nor does he have a tall Elvaan next to him at all times.

I got lucky on FFXI, and got the name Kirby, despite joining a couple of years after release.

I've used Kirby for almost everything, so I figured, "why not?"

Oh, and Star Breaker is a premium title on Zam, so that's where I got my last name from Smiley: tongue

When creating a name for an MMO character I use the same method that has always worked when naming characters in pen & paper RPGs. I pull up a big list of celtic names and pick one that has enough dd's and yy's in it.

The main screen resolution for "FINAL FANTASY XI" is dependent on the "Overlay Graphics Resolution" setting.

I fell in love with the name Bantam in 2004 I thought it meant small fury animal for my Taru, my old linkshell stuck with angry little chicken It was a fun year or two chicken jokes but I still use the name today. ...... Forum name "Warmech" I picked that up in 2004 when Alla had a free 1 or 6 month deal with FF11 launch. Warmech, he lives in Tiamat's tower in outer space in FF1 you have a 1 in 28 chance to encounter him,The only other thing in the whole game to match him in power and exp is 4 Zombie Dragons. It's funny to think how i never connected Warmech looks like a ground pecking Robot chicken.

When selecting a name I tend to do what many here do as well, which is pick a name from some folklore/tradition that I feel most reflects my personality. However, this time around my gf decided to play with me so we had to pick names that complimented each other well. We ended up picking Light and Misa because we both love the anime Death Note (and our retainers are named Rem(y) and Ryuk respectively), and Acadi because it was the name of the park where we met...

A few days into the game we stumbled upon another couple (i'm assuming?) with the names Dijon Mustard and Honey Mustard, and I was put to shame by their originality and wittiness, and regretted not coming up with something a bit more creative lol. Ah well at least she is happy with our names =P

Zombie: Started playing games like Doom on B&W laptop screens and named my saved games Zombie at first because everyone were always surprised at how cold my hands were like I was dead or something.

Iceman: Stuck with the "cold" theme and kept it simple when I started playing Ultima Online with some high school friends. And yes, I did watch X-Men during those times. >.>

Aiglos: During my UO years, I decided one day to create a new character but I couldn't find a new and more refined name which kept the cold theme. An old friend from UO (he was, literally, old) then opened his Silmarillion book and found Aiglos for me. It kept the cold theme, sounded quite nice to the ear and I was a new reader of the Tolkien legacy which I very much liked, so I kept it for quite some time, and games.

Spitfire: I usually use that name when creating dps built characters (range types mostly). Yes, it's from the song of The Prodigy.

Spark: I use that one for crafting characters which have the skills to go fight from time to time. The idea comes from a conversation Guts has with the blacksmith in the beginning of volume 10 of the Berserk manga. I was a pretty good crafter in UO (private shard), and was asked by other guilds for help as a PKK from time to time. I kinda liked those moments.

Cidolfus: Random choice since all others were already taken on those forums. And Cid from FFT simply kicks ***.

Menel Vagor: FFXIV is currently the game which took me the most time on choosing a name. I couldn't take the previous names and fit two of them to make a whole one and make it sound good... So, I stepped back and went from a totally different angle. I kept my liking of the elvish tongues Tolkien created and searched for weeks, even months. I then stumbled upon Menelvagor while I was searching for something of the "protect" theme as I'm usually the "meatshield" type in life and games.

I was actually bitten by a red fox, and then I became the Red Fox. True story. I am thinking of acquiring an addition alias (also, alliteration), but in order to do that I will have to locate and be bitten, scratched, or somehow lock eyes in an extended and meaningful way with a black wolf, and that may take some time.

Ive always used a lot of thought behind not only my main's but even my mules.Ive used several different things to come up with names.Real life friends and family,Favorite characters from other games,i'm a big fan of various mythologies so many of those names inspire me,and theres always that one funny name for a mule or retainer. But the one that seemed to stick with me was given to me by a friend. We were all very excited leading up to FFXI Day 1 of PS2 Launch finally got everything ready to go was making character and the name i had in mind was taken.I'm not one to just take any name so i figured id just used my friends name he was going to use cause we had like 8 people in living room yelling at me to just go they wanted to see game.Well long story short it just stuck been using it ever since.

In FFXI (my first MMO) I named my character Protagonist after Hiro Protagonist the lead character of my favorite book (Snow Crash by Stephenson). I was tempted to use the name Hiro Protagonist as my character in FFXIV, but in the time since I picked my FFXI name, Stephenson wrote a book that I liked even better than Snow Crash called Anathem, so I named my new character Erasmas Tenner after the lead in that book.

In FFXI my name was Rolan, I took that name from my brothers character when he quite playing.

In FFXIV my name is Rolanberry Fields. It was my favorite zone in FFXI and I spent most of my time out there, also it had my old name inside of it too so it just worked out even better.

If the companies being added to the game are really really customizable...I'd like to open a 'Mr.Fields baking factory'.

Lahru Hukurou

Lahru was my second character on FFXI. Got tired of my elvaan missing all the time, so I created her. I took inspiration for part of her name from Kahlan from the Sword of Truth books. I think I used that and another name or something. I mixed it all up and got Lahru.

Now her last name Hukurou means owl in Japanese. I have a fascination with owls. People have characteristics that are very like animals. I'm an owl, so I thought it really fit.

In all MMo's I have played I have always used a variation of my RL name. Irv became Urv, Urvo, or Urvie. FFXIV forced to pick a surname. Couldn't really think of anything thing good so decided on Urvo Booey paying homage to Baba Booey, the "loveable loser" and producer of the Howard Stern Show.

I think going off the analogy, a lot of the people on the forum would have the name *********** dog" or "crazy cat" lol

I used the name Joxo for several game characters and its always the default name I will use. Several years ago I used to call myself Jozo in games and forums. That was because my brother used it as a nick name for me in real life. But that name was used a lot by other people online and I didn't want to name myself Jozo123 or JozoLOL. I still wanted a short name that wasn't used too much by other people so I replaced the 'z' with a 'x'.

Originally I planned to give my character in FFXIV a different name. I used one of the online Japanese name converters and it came up with Jossuko. I tried hard to find a suiting surname to use but never really found one of my liking.

So the day finally came that I installed FFXIV. In the process I got a bit confused about how to create a character and how to connect my digipass and existing FFXI account to my FFXIV character. That is how I ended up with my old comforting name Joxo again. My surname (Carbuncle) is just the default name suggested in the character creating process (cause I play on the Carbuncle server in FFXI).
