No its not because of a technical issue. I am not the only one noticing a dramatic drop in LS members being on and its taking a huge toll on my ability to play FFXIV. First off I am a rank24 thaum and the majority of r30 leves are slow to do or impossible solo. It is also hard to get a SP party. This is what I do now: I log in and grab leves then run to camp and ask in LS if anyone is up for r30 leves. Then i get no response so I log off.

And I just want to add that I didnt have this problem in FFXI during launch. Mainly because SE didnt go nuts and spread division of play in FFXI. People were only either seeking the occasional missions or EXP party. In FFXIV it is too sporadic and impossible to get parties going since camps consist of people at huge varying rank levels.

I solo most of the r30 leves as r22 CON or THM often. Only ones that give me trouble are the devilets and their AoE move. You should be owning most of those @24.

I have no answers about finding SP parties except that I know some people are having luck with the LFP system on some servers. Some of my LS on Selbina included in that. Big problem with that is a lot of people don't even bother with that system. Makes it tougher to find groups for SP or for leves. You're right about not everyone having the same agenda though. I may be at the camp someone's shouting for parties at, but often I'm in crafting or gathering mode. I actually have less motivation to level my DoW/DoMs than DoL/DoH...didn't expect that.

So it's actually easier to solo to 75 on FFXI than on FFXIV now? o.O

Ask in camp (/shout) if anyone wants to do leves together. Always works fine for me. Also try using the party seeker tool.

A lot of NA have the mentaility from FFXI - which is one LS for everything. JP have always had a separate shell for each thing they did - one for dynamis, one for limbus, one for ground, etc..
That's why the LS system was designed how it is in FFXIV - so you can read all LS's at the same time.

Morale of the story - get in more linkshells. There is nothing wrong with having multiple shells. Network with more people and actively seek shells that have common goals. If you're a crafter, get in a few crafting shells.. not just one. I think eventually shells will merge, because no one likes sitting around a shell with 2-5 active players with 50 ppl on the list.
FFXI: Rison of Alexander (retired)
FFXIV: Rison Srithuram of Palamecia
LS: Omnipresence [ ]

Oh, and here I was ready to provide some IT...

I started this character at the CE launch, and played for about 2 months. Haven't touched it since.

Actually, I was. And finding groups was never a problem-- overcrowding of campsites was a much bigger issue.

This right here is my biggest fear because while I do honestly enjoy the game (though of course it could be better and hopefully I get to watch it become that way) if my LS crumbled and I was unable to find another active one with mature people I got along with in it, I'd be out.

BTW OP, if you're on Figaro I'm in a pretty great LS if yours dies.
