Please stay on topic in this thread. I really don't feel like this some how magically turning into another flame thread, because we all know how apparently talking about nothing can turn into flaming. I was just curious as to who all was going to stay after the free play...carry on :D

Now that they have posted everything that is to take place with the updates, has this changed the way you look at this game and are you changing your mind to either stay or leave?

Do you plan on staying after the free trial or not? If so, why is that, and if no (which I think we all know why), why not?

What makes you love this game enough to stay?

I'll start. I do plan on staying. I an genuinely having fun with it. Granted there are issues, but for me the fun outweighs the issues. I have fun playing with the crafting, I enjoy the leves and I am enjoying the exploring. I feel like I am accomplishing things I couldn't when I was playing XI. To me the story keeps my interest and so does the game play style.

I won't be staying. Even though I shelled out for the collector's edition, FFXIV quickly made me lose interest - it just doesn't feel like fun.

However, I am going to be checking the ZAM FFXIV forums regularly when the updates start coming in. If things improve, I'm not pig-headed enough to stay away.

I'd be really interested if, after the improvements have been made, SE offer another free month for people to return to the game to see how it's changed. I'm not sure if I'd be prepared to pay money just to see if it's worth playing again.

I wish all those who will continue playing the best of luck, and if I do return, I'm sure I'll be asking for their kind help at some point ;)

Not staying.

The group I started with quit

The LS I met on day 1 quit

I think the progression system is too steep

There is zero content I actually am looking forward to doing

Without a carrot on a stick to follow, the gameplay is just to bland and boring.

My apologies, I pointed out the polls and other thread, but forgot to mention that I will stay around. The problems with the game haven't killed it for me, I enjoy the game whenever I am able to log on.

I'm in it for the long run as well. I still do enjoy playing and will give it until PS3 release to hopefully turn things around. I know its getting more and more rare around here these days, but I still want the game to succeed, and hopefully the upcoming patches are big strides in that direction.

I'll be staying besides the problems and here are the main reasons why:

- My LS. I play with a group of folks from reddit.com and some others we've picked up over time and I truly dig them. Some of them have already flown out to meet up and go to a fairly recent rally and I want to keep in touch with them. This is the main reason I play any MMO.

- My play times are limited. I have a salaried day job and attend school four nights a week and Saturday mornings so I think I'm keeping the burnout at bay. It does leave me behind my LS though.

- Finally, I'm interested in seeing what changes they do make and $15 a month is not much for me to worry about when it comes to a game. I like to know I can get on and play around when I want too.

So, I guess we'll see. I'll be here until my LS crumbles and if I can't find another good one.

I'm playing everyday for the duration of the free trial in order to make use of free play time, and to develop my character as much as possible while it's free. However once the free trial ends, barring some amazing patch that will add a ton of new stuff to do, I will be canceling my account and not paying subscription services until I am clearly notified of some worthwhile content. There's no reason to a support a game by paying for subscriptions when they deliberately did this to us. I'm a HARDCORE Final Fantasy MMO fan, with 8 years of play time in FFXI. But this is just downright terrible what they did to us with this game.

I thought I was one of the most hard core and would grind through no matter what. But at this point there are too many other interesting games out there for me to continue to play this boring game with no compelling content (yes, I was willing to live with the market and AI for awhile). I just picked up Black Ops last night for my 360 and seriously doubt I will be logging back on to ffxiv anytime soon.

So yea, I'm going to suspend my account when the free trial is up (or sooner just to be sure I don't forget). I'm hoping things get better so that I feel compelled to play again... however, they are leaving the door wide open to the competition. As long as I am amused with other games, I won't be coming back without a very compelling reason.

I'll be here playing AT LEAST until a month after PS3 release. For me XI got REALLY good shortly after the PS2 players came on board. Granted XI had more content at NA PC release than 14 currently does, but I expect a similiar reinvigoration of my interest some where around that time frame.

While SE has made some largeish mistakes in it's last few published titles, but I see them changing as a company. A company that is making more mistakes, but seems to be learning from them... although maybe a bit too slow for today's internet crowds.

No, the wear any equipment at any level just ruined it for me.

I don't have any goals anymore, what was once in FFXI, weeks of anticipation about your next armor/weapon, planning and saving gil, is all gone. Even moving to chain mail at lvl 23 was meaningful, getting off the **** brigidane was a sigh of relief too. This made grinding worthwhile at least to me because in 2-3 levels I can swap out to the next gear. It was like christmas (with the anticipation) every 5 levels.

In FFXIV, everyone is running around in bronze haubergeons, thanks SQEnix but I'll go find a game that actually has definable goals.

My free trial doesnt end till a week into december but as of now i'm not playing. I'm curious to see what the Nov update brings but will be canceling my subscription anyway.

I have about 3months of crysta i can't get refunded so i'll just hold onto that until the march Ps3 release (or later if its still not up to par). Hopefully by then the game has been worked on enough to be worth playing again. Leaving mainly because of the numerous bugs, lack of content, steep grind, lack of any motivation for grinding (like new equips...i can wear them now so that no longer motivates me), quests are dull and repetitive, etc etc.

For now i'm back on XI finishing up expansions, and hanging out w/ my Ls~

I'm staying. Mainly because I find this game to be a lot of fun, I have a great ls with and have made a lot of friends who also enjoy the game, and because I just enjoy FF mmo's so much more than other mmo's. Yes it's a little bare bones atm, but there is plenty to look forward to, so to me that's a non issue. And yes it has some kinks, but all the ones I care about are getting fixed within a month, so really, why would I quit?

I understand that many people don't like the game and won't stay. It's what I expected would happen since back before this game was announced back in FFXI. SE just doesn't appeal to everyone. There are other mmo's out there for those people though, This is the one for me. :)

I hate to agree, but I actually do. I understand that there are consequences to wearing gear that is not of the optimal level for your rank, but the whole thing just seemed like a "lazy" interpretation of the epic level and gear syncing patch that transformed XI.

I know this is off-topic but I'm really want to say I agree with this. I'm all for anyone able to wear any kind of item if I'm playing a serious RP intensive game but for an MMO it's just pretty lame.

The durability drives me insane as well.

Well we can't all be expected to carry a different entire set of gear for each job, esp without a mog house or with 1 retainer only and slow UI. So I guess they just made that design decision, and it went along well with the swap jobs feature that they wanted to promote. And then they figured the trade off was no level requirement for equip wearing, just a penalty and that was acceptable.

Well for me anyways that sort of ruins it. Building an equip set tailored to my job was a huge amount of customizability I liked! When I change jobs from a LNC to a MRD, I actually want to look like a MRD - not the same armor with a different weapon.

But that's just me too, looking good meant almost as much as stats,

Yep staying as well, I am very positive that they will improve this DRAMATICALLY before the PS3 release and to be honest, while there are some things that bug me in regards to the UI, for the most part I enjoy the game quite a bit.

I'm staying. The only way I'd actually plan on leaving at this time is if the Free-to-play thing were to happen. Since it appears to be just rumors it rules that out. I'm still waiting to see if SE lives up to their word with these updates. If SE doesn't keep their promises in this first big update coming in November then I'll probably take my leave either when the free trial is up, or if SE doesn't deliver the patch until after that, when my first paid month expires.

Whether I stay or not is going to depend entirely on the November update. I haven't bought any crysta or filled out any subscription information yet.

If they release the update after the 22nd, my account will already have run out. I can't see myself reactivating to see if a patch improves things.

If they release the update before the 22nd and it really doesn't do a whole lot, as with the majority of the past 7 weeks of patches, I wont be continuing my account at this time.

I don't hate the game, I don't hate logging on, but right now I don't feel it is worth paying for.

The only way I'll be staying is if the patch comes out before the 22nd and has a noticably positive impact on the game.

If the update is underwhelming or is released too late, as much as I dislike WoW I'd probably end up getting Cataclysm and playing that with some old MMO buddies. I think that's what a lot of current players would end up doing, which means they wont be coming back with the December update. This November update is very important for SE to get right, and to get out at the right time. I hope they realize just how important.

I am not having any fun lately. A lot of LS members are never on and everyone outside LS is antisocial. I mean I can call them a doodoo head and well yea and nothing. The whole world feels so dead UNLIKE FFXI where party formation was key to play. People were always /telling me and it wasnt lonely.
This means I canceled my subscription for now.

I'm lucky in that real life obligations have given me a clear and obvious strategy to follow. I'll be away from home so much between late Nov. and Christmas that it would be a complete waste of money to stay subscribed, given the underpowered laptop I'll have on my travels.

I'll be able to keep tabs on the community though, and if the Nov/Dec patches are successful and popular, I'll be able to use the Crysta I've already purchased to reactivate post-Christmas. If the patches don't measure up, I can just bide my time until as late as PS3 release, jumping back in at any time if it seems worthwhile to give the hopefully much improved game another try.

I'll stick around until the November patch. If that meets expectations and brings needed (and not halfassed) change then I'll wait and see what December's patch brings. If the November patch falls flat I'll spend my time on Cataclysm until I see what the December patch has to offer. If that winds up being a bust too I guess FFXIV will go on the back burner and I'll use WoW to bide my time until the PS3 launch to see where the game is.

So my real answer: Kinda. If the November patch proves its worth then yes I'll stick it through after the trial is up. If the patch is a letdown then SE wont be getting any of my green until I see change worth paying for.

The game itself is really boring. Add to that, the amount of running that you have to do for anything... and you have pretty much a no-brainer for most people to move onto any game that is at the very least enjoyable, and not purposely wasting the player's time. I doubt that I will give them any more money for a subscription or buy any other game from Square-Enix ever again. If the first major patch in November addresses the majority of the problems, then I may eat my words.

I did a quick count of the posts. Math could be wrong but its close. 20 Staying and 12 Leaving. I know this isn't a large data set and it is skewed by oh so many things...but if this panned out and SE lost roughly 40% of their playerbase. Melmond frequents 800 people on during prime time. That means it would be down to 480...and maybe 20% of those are just Bazaar people. Scary no?
