I'll stay if weapon degradation gets adjusted so I don't need to repair every two hours.
Maybe they will ninja fix it since I don't see it specifically mentioned.

I will be staying. I was frustrated with the game and not playing often, however everything I am reading now seems to be wonderful! I have faith again. Even if it takes awhile to implement everything, I see it going in a direction that I beleive would be enjoyable to play. I atleast have the desire to want to wait on the changes now. I am willing to put my disapointment behind me and pledge my support by sticking with it. I'm not even going to say IF it doesnt improve I will quit, because I'm going forward trusting that it will. And I will tell you, I was very disappointed so this is a huge turn around for me.

I will not be staying. This upcoming patch from SE will be rushed and badly prepared - they simply have not had enough time to implement it. By the time all the bugs/changes from this new patch are ironed out we will be well into the new year - what will be released in November is a patch of desperation from SE. Cata, on the otherhand, whatever you think of WoW gameplay/graphics etc is looking very smooth and of high quality - just how it should be - come December 7th the FFXIV player base will once again plummet.

I've not given up on XIV though and will definietly be back to check it out in 4-6 months.

With the patch notes I'm even more determined to stay, like I've always planned. Sadly most of those who want to leave will not stay, even with patch note from heaven.

No, will not pay to beta test. May come back after the PS3 but until then this is nothing more then paying to test new features so the PS3 launch goes well.

No, the notes, while a huge improvement over what we've seen thus far, are still far too generic to convince me to continue to pay.

"Adjustments to ..." and "Improve the performance of ..." are just business/tech jargon for reports.

Haven't read the update yet.
Just got home from work, and just found out about it, but I will say I'll be sticking around.
Now I'll go read that update. lmao

[edited] I would like to add this tho.
It would be in S/Es best interest to get that mid NOV update out BEFORE all of the CE owners free trial expires.
And by BEFORE, I don't mean the day before S/E............
They have got to be retarded if they release it after everyones trial period ends......
They sure seem to be wanting to cut it close tho.

Are you freaking serious?!?!?! I have to wait until the first 2011 patch (whenever that will actually be) before I am able to sort my inventory???? You've gotta be freaking kidding me? It takes forever doing it manually.....

Seems like retainers have now turned into an AH. item search, Sale/purchase history, delivery services even?
Now it really feels even like the only reason they didnt give us an actual AH was so that they can charge for retainers.

I'm in it for the long haul.

2 reasons:
I've been gaming since before the Coleco Vision w/ atari expansion module.
FF has been a part of my life since I was a little kid.
I'm giving SE a very fair shot at making things right before I go anywhere.

Also, I have much exploring to do. I want to experience all areas and fish them, too.

I'm staying on the forums to see if there is real meat to the updates, and if there is, you can bet I will be standing in line at midnight come Ps3 release. However, I just can't justify spending sub money on a game I don't currently enjoy hoping for it to get better.

Instead, I reactivated a second account on XI as sort of a consolation prize to help them out (despite what some may think I truly do love SE). I doubt they will get the message, but if anyone is tracking trends they might be interested in an account removing a FFXI sub, adding an FFXIV sub, removing the FFXIV sub and resubscribing to XI again, returning to two active subs in the old game.

So hopefully in March XIV will be the epic awesomesauce I was telling everyone it was going to be, my account can go back to one sub for each, and all my friends can stop being mad at me for suggesting they try this because it was going to be better than XI.

Please stay on topic in this thread. I really don't feel like this some how magically turning into another flame thread, because we all know how apparently talking about nothing can turn into flaming. I was just curious as to who all was going to stay after the free play...carry on :D

Now that they have posted everything that is to take place with the updates, has this changed the way you look at this game and are you changing your mind to either stay or leave?

Do you plan on staying after the free trial or not? If so, why is that, and if no (which I think we all know why), why not?

What makes you love this game enough to stay?

I'll start. I do plan on staying. I an genuinely having fun with it. Granted there are issues, but for me the fun outweighs the issues. I have fun playing with the crafting, I enjoy the leves and I am enjoying the exploring. I feel like I am accomplishing things I couldn't when I was playing XI. To me the story keeps my interest and so does the game play style.

for now I am staying, i was going to regardless.

If the updates turnout to be super disappointing then I will sadly not continue.

For now I am staying and I am optimistic for the relative short term future.

And just think, they could have just activated the AH that's in the game already from the beginning and then charged for retainers as extra storage (since that's all they really are) and that would have been two less major complaints.

No, not coming back until they add a ton of quests or content to do between grinding and leves.
Even then I probably won't because the current DoW classes are all so generic and boring. Maybe once new classes are added I'd be more inclined.

Nope. I refuse to pay for fixes, updates and content that in my opinion should have been in the game from the start. I plan on sticking around and I might activate my buddy pass in December or after the first 2011 big update to check the status but right now I won't. I would feel like a sucker if I kept paying someone to fix something that they sold to me broken.

I had high hopes and expectations for this game it just sucks that they didn't live up to the bar I had set in my mind. Maybe in a year it will be where I invisioned it and at that time it will be choose between starting from behind in FFXIV or starting fresh in Guild Wars 2. I never thought I would but I'm leaning heavily towards the second.

I'm definitely not going anywhere, one way or another. I'm kind of getting a kick out of being around for all these changes, patches and new implementations.

I was a long time player of XI starting just after the PS2 release, but was always kind of jealous of the JP players that got the game so much earlier. For my girlfriend and I, this phase of us playing the game is watching how it and the community are evolving. We both agreed when we ordered the CE that we would stick it out good and bad to be able to say in a few years something along the lines of "Yeah, I remember back when you couldn't even sort your inventory or search the Wards!" then proceed to pull out our rusty old Onion Helms.

I think now the only way I'd leave is if the SE decided to go the F2P route. It seems now that it was just an ill conceived rumor and/or speculation, but it made me consider the option at least.

From reading all the forum negativity, it looks like I'm one of the few who actually have enjoyed the game for what it is since open beta. Yeah, it has its issues, but after reading the recently posted FFXI back-log of patches it seems that SE is taking a very similar approach of straightening things out in XIV and I'm cool with that. They've been doing this RPG thing a long time, I've got more than a little faith that they'll get this game right eventually.

I can't stay for FFXIV because I already sold my entire account to sythe.. And returned a copy of the CE to best buy unopened.. I will come back if SE magically pulls a rabbit out of the hat.. and follows through with their plans.. but all I am seeing is a desperate act in SE's part to get enough funds to keep this game alive.. DEVS do not work for free..

The patch notes do look uber promising.. the problem here is that it's too uber.. It makes me feel suspicious of how they are going to pull it altogether.. They are bleeding financially bad according to stock market notes.. Don't believe me? Check here..

I BS you not SE is bleeding financially at an alarming rate.. it's a sign that people are losing hope in big ways...
WoW: we want to give players a more fun time with less grinding and generic quests
GW2: we want the player to feel like they are leveling while doing something fun
Final Fantasy XIV: we want less fun and more grinding

I'll gladly stay and beta test the new stuff. 13 bucks a month is irrelevant. It will be fun being the first to try out new stuff...good or bad.

Life is WAY too short to sit around being mad and upset at a billion dollar corporation.

I'm done until these updates are actually implemented. I will be checking back from time to time but I don't feel like paying for a beta game.

I will be staying, im not too disappointed with the game, i enjoy the challenge of lvling right now even though it gets frustrating. I played FFXI for 5-6 years, and WoW for about 3 years and one thing i learned from blizz is that they baby the consumers by almost handing them high end gear and whatnot, you can be in full epics in less than a week if you are determined. I am very interested in seeing how the batch of updates work out too.

This and I've honestly tried other games and I dislike them hard... like warhammer and lotro... yeah. They didn't do it for me. So why not stick with something I enjoy?

When it comes to sitting around not doing anything for long periods of time, only being active for short windows, and marginal changes and sidegrades I'd say FFXI players were the perfect choice for politicians.

i'm here all the way. if I had a working pc id be on now. To thoe who plan on playing Star wars the WoW with ffxiv combat. Warning. it can be played 100% solo missing some content and have ffxiv combat system (aka spam 1 and win) I was gonna try that too till i found how "anti" mmo it was. I'm a fan of knights of the old republic. But the star wars mmo looks too much like a single player gam that just happens to be online with other players playing. Plus Kotor got better graphics then tor does. : / Least in my eyes. (sorry for star wars derailment just informing ppl i don't hate tor just telling ppl what i know.)

Not really. I take no solace in SE's promises. I'll wait for the actual results.

I'm not staying because the game is just too empty. I can grind to a point, but I have to be building toward something. But right now, what goals are you working towards? a) unlocking the next main quest, b) unlocking your class quest. I like the main quest, the story's good, the rewards are substantial... But grinding up to 20 just for that, and one other quest? It's not enough. There either needs to be more stuff to do in the game, or there needs to be a more fun way to level, better than just grinding. Preferably both. I think the game might get there, but who knows how long that will take?

I will be staying. I took a three week hiatus from the game to pay EQ2, but after the comprehensive list of upcoming updates was posted, I got excited about the game again. I logged in, left the link shell that I was currently in, which although for the most part were filled with decent people, was not my cup of tea, not to mention there was never anyone my level to party with. I found a new linkshell very quickly, with people leveling classes around my level and have been having fun all weekend.

I will say that this game is not a solo game. It's not that you can't solo, it's that it's just not fun to. EQ2 I consider a good solo game, because progression is fast, there's lots of story to the quests you do, and you can pretty much acquire everything you need for most of the game by yourself, minus the social interaction of course. FXIV isn't there yet and probably never will be. Personally I find partying much more fun than soloing even in a good solo game, and I would say most people agree.

Yes I am quite happy with the game again, even in it's existing state. I will say this market ward search function will make life much easier though :)

Cheers all
