My guess is next Thursday because I doubt they would do it the week of Thanksgiving, and since this week it seems too late now, my guess is going to be that the major update will be Nov. 18.

I was really thinking that it would be the 25th... Thanksgiving is really only a US holiday- so it wouldn't really be a big deal for them to do it that week...?

Plus, I feel like when a company says "late <Month>" it is done at the last possible moment.. : (

Well, it would be smart for SE to get the patch out before people have to start paying for the game.

I haven't played in over a week and the only reason I haven't cancelled my account is that I'm waiting to see what the patch brings.

However, if the patch isn't out before the 22nd, I'm going to cancel anyway. And I have a feeling I'm not the only one thinking like this.

I kinda doubt it'll be the 18th, but who knows. Like others have mentioned, Thanksgiving is not recognized in Japan so there's no reason they won't do it just because of the holiday I don't think.

With that said, they have been ok RECENTLY of meeting and even exceeding most of their deadlines lately (excluding the hugely delayed alpha, and the 2 day delay of open beta). Can't think of any exact examples offhand but I remember one of the betas saying something like "will start in mid August" then it started on like, the 6th or something. I think they are setting their deadlines with a lot of breathing room intentionally. Personally I'd expect it sometime the week of Thanksgiving. but, I'm basing that on random hunches so we'll see! I obviously hope it's ummm tomorrow. =P

I forgot about that Thanksgiving is not recognized in Japan. Maybe I'll go with Nov 25 then.

You obviously haven't played FFXI. lol. Late November means, more than likely the week of November 21, 2010.

If I remember correctly, NA has the biggest share of the games shipped, so I would imagine a good 1/3 of player base is in the North America.

It would be absurd for a company to not consider over 30% of the player base.

Thanksgiving not celebrated in Japan is fine, but I would hate to spend my holidays waiting for patches to upload, or worse, no patch at all.

Thanksgiving Day is celebrated primarily in the United States and Canada. Basically the rest of the world don't celebrate it.

It's only the US that celebrates thanksgiving in November. Canada celebrates 2nd Monday of October. So that holiday will really have nothing to do with the patch release date. Although, you would think they would WANT to release it on an American holiday. That will give everyone a day off of work to actually play when the new patch comes.

Naaa, they don't care about thanksgiving... (as I do :P) If they would care about it, they should have created an event for that in FFXI since long time ago, but as you can see, they basically consider things that are celebrated in that side of the world or worldwide.

I agree with Mokatu. Dunno how you thought late November is going to be the llth. I take it to be the last week in November. Will be surprised if it will be any sooner. I honestly don't care if they don't consider us and our Thanksgiving. And I really hope they don't try and do some thanksgiving event. I do enough eating irl on thanksgiving. Don't need to put that in a game lol.

I'd be happy if it were on Thanksgiving. I'll be with family so I won't notice the downtime involved with a major update. I'll try to sneak away for a minute to start the updater, then happily play an updated game on the 26th.

It would be really nice if they did it no later than Thanksgiving. I'm not getting my hopes up though. I'll be happily surprised if they cater to us and do that.

With SE, "late <month>" is always translated from a Japanese word that specifically means the last 10 days or last third of a month. It's vaguely possible that they could get something pushed out ahead of schedule, but it's unlikely.

While SE shouldn't release the patch on Thanksgiving, that's not to say they won't. Anyone who played FFXI through Wings of the Goddess should remember the huge debacle when the publishers SE hired were authorized to ship on the day before/on the day of Thanksgiving, which ended up delaying a huge percentage of the NA players' discs until the following Monday. That's a much bigger deal than the upcoming patch, they didn't consider the US holiday then, and I doubt they will now.

As someone else stated, they have been staying slightly ahead of their announced times for many things, and there's a good chance it'll continue for awhile...if for no other reason than they want to stop the bleeding.
