The development team will be focusing their efforts on the three points elaborated below.

Gameplay Improvements

As part of the version update scheduled for November, areas within the game will be partitioned across several servers to mitigate load-balancing issues and increase response times. In addition, a general restructuring of user interface (UI) operations will lessen lag and sluggish response times.

The UI will also be undergoing several additions and adjustments aimed at creating more intuitive and user-friendly controls. Furthermore, a new UI geared towards users playing with a mouse and keyboard is currently being designed, and will hopefully be ready for implementation in a coming version update. The current in-game UI will remain available for those users who prefer to play via controller, while the newly designed UI will be available as an option for those who wish to use a mouse and keyboard.

User feedback will continue to play a major role as we further address issues and make ongoing improvements in these and future version updates

Goal-Oriented Content & Comprehensive Tutorials

Together with the aforementioned improvements to gameplay, the availability of "goal-oriented" content and items, and the need for comprehensive and clear tutorials are issues that will be immediately addressed.

In the hopes of providing players with opportunities to engage in such content as soon as possible, the November version update will see a reduction in the amount of skill points required to reach rank 20. By effectively reducing the amount of time necessary to reach rank 20, players will sooner be able to gain access to class quests and high-rank guildleves.

Further content scheduled to be released in the Decemeber version update:
*Notorious monsters
*Item search feature

We believe that these additions will go a long way towards fulfilling the need for goal-oriented content and improving general usability of in-game features.

Notorious monsters (NMs) are a special category of enemy that can be found throughout the various areas of Eorzea. Sometimes associated with levequest objectives, several of these formidable opponents, and a vast array of equippable items associated with them, will be coming with the December version update. This will be the first of many installments bringing NMs to Eorzea, with future updates promising to introduce even more NM-related content.

Implementation of a item search feature will serve to stimulate the in-game economy by helping prospective buyers and sellers to find one another. This will be accomplished by making it easier for users to discern what items are currently available, as well as simplifying the process of finding a specific item.

In addition to the above, the version updates will also feature adjustments to class balance, changes to enemy population and distribution, and the addition of all-new quests, items, and recipes. It is our hope that this will allow users to enjoy their time in Eorzea by providing them with a more concrete sense of purpose, no matter which class they choose. Additional tutorials are also slated for introduction in November and December, and will greatly simplify the learning process when using the game's various systems and engaging myriad content.

Establishment of In-Game Communities

The forthcoming November and December version updates will introduce what are known as "companies," a special type of linkshell with more group-oriented progression and goals.

Once estbalished, companies will be able to work towards acquiring their own communal assets, such as buildings that can serve as headquarters, or ships that can be used to access multiplayer content. The system will provide concrete benefits to players who align themselves with a company, as well as motivate already established companies to seek out new recruits. In essence, the focus will be on providing new, innovative content for all players to enjoy. The FINAL FANTASY XIV Lodestone will also offer a number of online services covering both companies and linkshells.

All of the additions and changes mentioned above are currently in the final stages of development, and we are optimistic that they will be implemented in the version updates of November, December, and early 2011. Beyond those listed here, there are still numerous other features being planned. More information on these will be released in the future as details become available.

While there is nothing we would like more than to address every individual issue raised by the community, the upcoming version updates will be centered on resolving the problems and shortcomings within the three categories outlined above. We apologize if there is an aspect of the game not mentioned here, and assure you that we will be working to make as many refinements and improvements as possible.

We hope that you continue to enjoy your time in Eorzea, and promise that things will only be getting better!

I was not expecting them to be working on a UI tailored for keyboard/mouse users.

Companies sound like fun, too.

For the amount of work required to accommodate the wishes and address the complaints of their users, I really couldn't have asked for a more comprehensive plan for the game.

I just reactivated my account, and will be happy to throw a few bucks SE's way for the next few months and see how things work out.

youd figure manual item sort would be in the november patch since its one of the "bare bones" fixes. seems we wont get anything meaty untill 2011, and i believe SE said the updates were gonna be 3 months after december? so real good stuff were getting at ps3 launch.

edit,
anyone have some solid info on what companies even are?

this is alot of good news. i will definately re-sub to check these things out, however even with the additions of search features for the wards, i still would rather just go to one location to stand there, look for what i want, and buy it, all at the same time.

I'm very happy to see that, and I hope others will follow suit. I really do want the game to succeed, in spite of it's disastrous launch. I think SE is feeling the sting of their own hubris with XIV.

Fair is fair. It's clear from the notes that they had a plan for the game that they're working towards, but it also seems the lion's share of their efforts are being put towards addressing those things that players were most dissatisfied with. They're putting in the effort. I think that's all anyone could realistically ask for them. And even if a lot of the changes posted for the Nov/Dec updates aren't ready until early next year, at least they're working on it.

It was a smart move on their part to post the notes now instead of waiting and posting them after the update like they normally would.

Oh i am so looking forward to this :D

Especially to the point: *The addition of party member location markers
I also hope there will be something like the /search function like in XI where you can invite people which are not located next to you.

Very much agree with this. Seeing the game plan laid out and knowing that SE is kicking it into gear is what I was hoping for. I'm rather looking forward to all the updates now.

Overall I'm feeling really excited about all this information, of all this the only thing that I don't agree with is the lowering of Skill Points required to reach 20 as it doesn't feel fair to everyone that spent their time getting multiple classes to 20 (not my case but still dont find it fair) and it "seems" a lot like the WoW Sindrome of making things easier.

Of course while readding the posts I started thinking that still some people would just not be happy about it and still throw mud at it all. I certanly wasn't surprised...

1000x this. You can try and fault SE for releasing the game in such a state in the first place, but what's done is done. SE is showing serious effort to make things right by their customers (and somewhat to themselves I would think) and we can only applaud them for it. They seem to have learned a valuable lesson, at least for now, so I only have exceedingly high hopes for the future of FFXIV and wont mind keeping my account ticking even after the rent is due.

Maybe FFXIV can help me recapture that old FFXI magic after all.

I was not about to leave anyway, because I knew from the start, that Updates will come and solve most things over time, that's how it works with MMOs. SE just can't ignore people's thoughts, as they are the ones funding this whole thing.

I am looking forward to all additions and adjustments made in the Nov Update, I don't really care for the Dec Update for the moment, I just hope that most of the listed things that involve UI, Market Wards and overall playability are coming with the Nov Update.

There are two things that I don't really like though...it doesn't matter in the long term, but I was hoping for the "Recipe Book" to come in the Nov Update as first announced, now there is the "8 recent recipes synthed" thing coming first and the book in first 2011 update :/
The other thing is..."Option to change equip of your retainer"...wtf? xD
Why do they even invest time in such a completely useless feature for now...thats something they can implement in half a year or w/e, but why now xD

What I seriously like though, is the "adjusments to local leve rewards"...I hope this involves showing if a Local Leve gives Guild Marks or not, as it is for Battle Leves...I also hope you can just choose between Local Leve Ranks...like the Battle Leves, so you don't have to hope for the random god to give you some Rank 20+ leves a reset...

What I take with a grain of salt is...skill pts lowered to get to Rank 20...IMO its not neccesarry to do, rather they should have changed access to Class Quests to 15, including getting Guild Marks at Rank 15+, instead of just lowering the time to get to Rank 20. This gives me the opportunity though to ignore some of my subcrafts til the update is here and then get them to 20...will save me some time and shards xD

Well looks like my little rant in another thread has shook SE up so much that they had to go and post this little bit of information here. Kidding aside, the Nov and Dec updates look like they will do a lot to alleviate the many "problems" that currently bring the game experience down. The 2011 updates look like a lot of refining and most importantly, the addition of new content. As someone mentioned above, once you hit rock bottom, the only way to go is up right? However, for the best experience I'm gonna have to stick to my guns and recommend any new players or those who recently quit to wait it out until March where the game will be, as we all hope, an entirely different experience for the better.

I am looking forward to the upcoming updates. I am really hoping that the game succeeds.

I have played all Ffx games from the first one :) ( I am not telling u how old I am ) ^^

I am sort of disappointed that there is no mention of an AH! I really miss that feeling of community atm.
It was fun to see players meeting at the AH, chatting, battering, Waving to friends that u got too know
in game. It was a real hub of FFX I still have High hopes for this game, and I intend to keep playing.

I hope all our FFX players hang in there and give it a chance. They have made great ffx games, and I was never
disappointed with any of them.

Interesting notes provided by SE, and deffinately a step toward creating an XIV that players felt they would be playing. In typical SE fashion there is a lot of "adjustments" and I find myself not becoming excited by any point that contains this word. Having played XI for as long as I have, this word is synonymous with either underwhelming or, in cases, worsening changes. Are the words "increase" and "decrease" so hard to use?

The time lines given also leave a bit of doubt in my mind.

Square Enix wrote:
early 2011

Not interested.

I do very much hope that the bulk of these updates appear in November, with fine tuning in December and very small wrap-ups in "early 2011". Should it be the other way round, and minor tweaks happening in November and December with the bulk of these much needed economic, content and UI improvements coming in 2011 then I am simply not interested. These updates look almost reminiscent of other MMO beta notes. I am in flogging horse territory with this statement but it it is a lazy, ugly horse that needs the beating. This should have been in game from the beginning of release. Holding up hands, giving another free month and saying it'll be fixed mostly in November with some run-off into December is tenuous, but if that is what it takes to fix the game then so be it. Players like myself are willing to allow a little elbow room.

Where has 2011 come from? This was never mentioned when previous acknowledgments of updates were given, and makes me feel that SE have realised that they have bitten off more than they can chew and require even more time to place the game in a state it should be in already.

The SE and FF fanboy in me is pleading that these updates come in and XIV becomes the game I was promised throughout the years of tidbit info leaks. Mr Realism, the once distant but now ever-present aspect of my approach to SE games however is skeptical beyond measure.

Thats a big old list. Lots of positives in there. The tone of it all is very interesting. It seems almost apologetic which is good, they have realised just how wrong some things are.

In the meantime I've switched from a single job focus to levelling everything to 20. I dont want to trivialise new low level content and having lots of options to explore when all this stuff comes will be great.

Synthesis
Q. What kind of changes are planned for synthesis?
A. The late-November patch will see adjustments to the required ranks and difficulty levels of various existing recipes, ensuring that players will have a better chance to successfully create items when reaching the optimal skill level.

For the mid-December update, we will be adding several new recipes, including ones for crafting new gear. In addition, we will be introducing a new feature that will allow players to select recipes from a list of recently crafted items and
recipes learned through levequests, and set all of the appropriate ingredients with the touch of a single button, thus making repeated synthesis of a single item a snap!

Quote:
Adjustments to existing synthesis recipes
The addition of new synthesis recipes
Improvements to synthesis controls
The addition of a list that contains a player's eight most recently used recipes
A reduction in the amount of commands necessary to begin synthesis
Adjustments to gathering balance
Adjustments to stack totals on select items
The addition of a repair icon
The addition of an auto item sort function
Adjustments to item durability
An increase in player inventory capacity

Selectable recipes from learned through levequest wasn't mention on the latest update note, does that mean it won't be added at all at least until after first 2011 update!?

What about Battle Regiment?

I was looking to see the transparency issue with the text singled out, but if they're still planning on changing it or giving us the option, I guess it's buried in something like this?

Not that impressive honestly looking at it from a "failed launch, omg must get everyone back" standpoint, some ok stuff there but nothing groundbreaking as would be required to turn around a dying game. Nice for people already playing the game and I think most of this would of been added anyway but for people annoyed with it already there isnt enough there to genuinly change minds I think.

But hey, proof is in the pudding I guess.

Good list. Can't wait to see the changes, it kinda feels like we are waiting for the game to come out all over again. I think one thing they still should do is give us free play until PS3 release. I know a few RL friends aren't re-upping until then sadly. But SE definitely get it now.

What else could you possibly want from the situation? Not even the games most consider the best have been able to clearly set a course of action and get it on the field this fast. ****, Even WoW which everyone sings about had the same sorry *** game breaking problems for 2 years before they even had balls enough to acknowledge them much less fix them.

Hmmm what happened to changing the transparency of the chatlog, that was probably one of my biggest issues. I can't stand not being able to read anything.

Other than that I'm very happy with a few things. I've been asking to be able to move the action bar since the alpha, the lag reduction sounds hopeful, and there's alot of overall good stuff.

That said my hopes aren't up just yet, because I'm sure the majority of this wont happen until 2011, therefor I think I will put off rejoining until March.

What about Battle Regiment?

I can think of a couple of possibilities:

A) They're not being changed before Summer 2011.

B) They haven't decided what to do with the system yet (IE: Still in the planning stage), so they don't know whether the necessary changes will be programmed in time.

C) It is a part of the "Adjustments to Combat Balance" tidbit.

I think A or B is most likely.

This the best thing I read. I am a thaumaturge and there is no real reason for me to be in a party unless I am healing. There isn't any real difference between a conjurer and thaumaturge in that aspect.
I suppose We can assume no new jobs until March. Bummer.

The proposed changes sound great and it's nice to see that they are forthcoming with their plan. I will wait to see how the November changes pan out before I decide whether to resubscribe or not. If they don't seem up to par then I'll give it a look again around PS3 launch. It will be interesting to follow exactly how these things are implemented.

My most wanted update list includes residential areas, airships and chocobos. In game references to the later 2 are already there, but I miss my mog house and furniture. :(

WOOT!

I sort of got "quests will be added"-vibe from that but don't want to get my hopes up.

The rest is just loads and loads of butter on my slice of XIV-goodness. This is the best news I've heard all week.

Good timing! After Wada's earlier subpar response to XIV criticism this is actually what everyone wanted to hear.
Very excited to se the Nov-Dec changes and I know many of my LS mates are as well!
I'm a bit concerned how they'll 'fix' the SP gain, but I'll keep my fingers crossed that leveling past R25 after these updates will be much improved. At the moment, that seems to be a big issue with everyone that don't want to party-grind all the time (although, coming from FFXI I'm used to it, but doesn't mean that I like it).

All in all, this list has put my mind to ease a bit :)

What else could you possibly want from the situation?

Increased chat length limits. Seriously, I'm tired of the game cutting off everything I say.

Yeah as if people gonna play this game once they hit the rank 25 brickwall (Leves stops giving SP/Solo gets you pathetic sp/pts SP is random) the sp system is frustrating yet they do not knowledge how bad it's

In the mean time I'm looking forward to Nov30 where SE will be surprised, they will be LUCKY to have 500 player by server if they don't fix the SP because it's the #1 killer of this game.

November & December Version Updates

*Adjustments to combat balance
*Adjustments to enmity rates
*Adjustments to physical and magical accuracy rates
*Adjustments to how skill points are awarded
*Adjustments to monster population and territory
*The implementation of notorious monsters
*Improvements to the targeting feature

I'm hoping this is the fix you're referring to. I take this as it means we might see better chances at skill gains for certain classes and then some. Right now partying as anything but melee offers almost no advantages. SP gains are terrible for Conjurers (and probably Thaumaturges.) currently, especially when you're running with 2-3 healers in a party and not many people are seeing large amounts of damage dealt that's worth it. Even in smaller parties, I can see my skill ranging from 300 in a good fight (if I'm lucky.) to 100 or less the next and tapering down to zilch after. It's completely random, you can be spamming support spells and see nothing, only luck is to use Profundity, toss out a Spirit Dart, and hope you get a boosted SP gain off it.

I don't read that as an SP fix to adjust SP required to get from rank 1 to 20. It sounds like and adjustment to how skill points are awarded =P

But I totally agree with you. This SP system currently is not cool and the #1 game killer for me. I am looking forward to these changes.

It seems there is an error:

Quote:
The forthcoming November and December version updates will introduce what are known as "companies," a special type of linkshell with more group-oriented progression and goals.

But:

And french text doesn't mention companies for 2010.

There's something I just noticed in there, there's no mention of any adjustments to the Battle Regimen system. Parties I've been with simply refuse to make use of it because it never seems to work.

Finally, they acknowledge how frustrating this game can be.

That is a HUGE list for them to be working on, HUGE. I doubt they'll be able to get more than 20% of it into the November update. It also sounds like the game will be ready for release in early 2011.

So, now that people's fears are (mostly) put down to rest, can we please stop flooding the front page with the same tired complaints and talk about neat things in the game, or exciting speculation on adjustments, or anything that's actually positive and interesting instead of poster number 2390 writing how his idea of an auction house is totally superior to everyone else's ideas, in a dialect of English so broken it makes language professors spontaneously combust from the sheer amount of twitching and inner rage it produces?

Cause I am so totally down for happy threads.

Please?

Sorry Psi, you posted too soon. I forgot to mention the following:

No mention of changes to the party search functionality, and no mention of fixes to the auto translator.

The broken auto translator, I can work around. But, the party search feature is horribly implemented, hardly anyone uses it. And at R25+, it is a requirement.

I cant wait it seems most things will be in the November update. I actually read it from the lodestone and they had a ton of things in Nov/Dec.

I love the less sp to 20 so ppl can participate in class quests and guilds sooner.
My question is what if im past certain sp values but not quite 20? Does that equal and auto lvl up?

Anyway sounds like the "real" game will be coming soon. Im stoked because I love it already and glad they are doing what they can to see that we as players issues are being addressed. Remember they also said if you dont see something mentioned specifically in the notes does not mean that they are not working on those issues.(ie Battle Regimen)

Good news overall indeed.
