Weird i found 2 Auction houses... Wonder what all the hulabalu is about.

ffxiv.yg.com and ffxivorigin.com have "Comunity" based posting services to list and ssearch for items in peoples bazaars and retainers neither takes long to get setup and both are very effective.

To anyone who has been waiting for an AH to jump in this awesome game dont bother waiting it works awesome and its a comunity effort like SE wants us to have.

Just an FYI to anyone who didnt know and is frustrated trying to sell stuff.

Have fun and see you in Wutaii

I mentioned it to our devs a while back and was told it was tried before and fails miserably. People forget to update, lose interest, get lazy, etc. I've looked at a couple things on those sites and it's extremely unreliable and not very populated.

#4cornyboob, Posted: Nov 11 2010 at 2:46 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) It doesnt help when SE resets retainers randomly too clearing out all the wards. Would be nice if they could have a RSS feed for retainers when stuff is purchased.

Maybe - but they don't want to implement an AH of their own - do we really think that they will implement features for us to make AH-like central structures outside the game?

I don't know - seems like if it really has to come to that, it's time for SE to just man up and say "ok ok, here is AH".

I tried using yg earlier to buy something. Found 12 entries, so I popped over to the wards. Guess what I found?

Nothing NADA ziltch

Maybe I'm doing something wrong, or maybe SE did something wrong.

YG also is doing manual updates on their own. My retainer is on there and I have never used the site other than for search. I expect that's why certain search results show up a few days old. Probably takes a long time to go through each ward/retainer and make a list.

Most of the listings on YG are so out of date they're not even worth looking at. It was a great idea in concept but in implementation it falls short and people appear to have grown tired of it awfully fast. As Pikko said, it seems like a "fix" or a workaround for a game issue but when you realize as a seller that people are going to find and buy your stuff whether you go to the trouble of listing it on an external site or not, you quickly just abandon the whole thing.

Manual updating seems really impractical and I'm sorry to say, I have a lot of more important things to waste my time on. lol

Plus it won't be a good representation of the server's prices unless you get people from every social group to post. Something might be worth 15k amongst those who visit ZAM, but there might be lots of people who don't visit ZAM for whom the item may be worth 10k, which would skew the server average.

A manually updated site containing info on daily changing supply, demand and prices?
Don't make me laugh.

Some good Homepages are never gonna replace an ingame AH. i mean, i need to subscribe to all 3 (So far there are only 3) and update my Retainer their, when people already have problems with updating 1 only Retainer.

So this Game needs a real AH....or elso.

All this game needs is the search function which should be avaliable in the next weeks.
The AH sites work well if you put some effort into it and update your stuff. At least it's better than nothing.
Finding something you need is hard enough already because alot of people sell in the wrong wards. So every hint where the desired item might be found is welcome till we get ingame search.

Why doesn't SE just add the search feature into the Lodestone site?

They already have a character search with character profiles that get updated every couple minutes that show exactly how much xp/sp you have. How much more of a leap is it to make the retainer information automatically visible and searchable? If I want a Brass Dagger, I hop on the site to do a quick search and I can see all the retainers, their locations, and prices for the dagger I'm looking for. This seems like a simple and easy way to do it to me and there is a lot more flexibility doing via the website than trying to mash the interface to do this into what they have today.

Of course, this approach is not "in game" and requires using a browser but I would think it would be relatively quick and easy for them to implement it this way. I'm looking up stuff all the time on the internet when I play so it would work perfectly for me. Just wondering if they've considered something like this.

They probably won't because that would cause the Ps3 folks some issues. Ps3 has a browser as far as I know, but it's terribly inconvenient and would be nothing but a hassle for those who "only" own a console (you'd be surprised at how many there are).

I agree completely. I suggest it as a way to compliment or enhance the way you will be able to search for things. Maybe the interface they come out with in game will be rather basic and limited while going online you'll have more flexibility and additional features? Who knows, just saying it would be nice and probably relatively fast and easy for them to do it on the lodestone site compared to building it into the game right now.

I believe they have already stated they plan to have a different menu UI for PC users vs console users with the latest announcements. So, this idea probably isn't too far fetched.

Well, an optimized UI for the PC's weapons of choice. That doesn't mean that they should make something that could benefit both only available to one or the other - such as a AH search on an external website.
