System Maintenance

I had been hoping it was actually the patch update but it reads system maintenance, so probably just regular upkeep of their systems. But what strikes me as odd is how they mention it's from 11PM to 2AM, 3 hour maint? Wonder if this has anything to do with this notice:

Three hour maintenance (scheduled) has mostly been the standard since launch. The timing is a bit odd though. They are usually scheduled later in the week (there wasn't one this week) and usually starting at 0300 PST. I'm not sure if the differences are significant, but this one is a bit out of the ordinary.

Setting both the game & registration site up for players to be able to purchase more retainers perhaps? Would be awesome if it's a lot more than that...

Actually as of late maintenance has been at or around midnight, ending at 2AM pacific time. Normally no more than 2 hours, before that it had been three, this is just the first time really that it's been a full 3 hour maint in some time. As for the timing I'm guessing that's because we were on a DST time schedule before. Now that all clocks were set back an hour that means the maintenance has been set back an hour too making it 11PM instead of 12AM.

It makes sense to me that those two things are related in some way. I like the thought that maybe it has to do with preparing for more retainers. I hope that's the case. I really can't wait to buy more.

Maybe they are gonna add more servers to the clusters, to help with the lag issue. As some people have pointed out, fixing the lag issues could be a major re-write of the code. Adding more servers could be a stop-gap measure.

You are correct SirSamus, the maintenance is generally at Midnight PST, 0300 Eastern. This is what happens when I post from work in the middle of a 16 hour shift. Now back to getting paid (overtime)to play FFXIV.

I believe this is where they are going to change the billing to start taking our money come the 23rd of Nov. So looks like the hopes of getting another 30 days free is down the drain. It will also set up for more retainers to be purchased as well. So come the 23rd you can get more retainers.

Just to point out, the date is different for everyone depending on when they first activated their account. For example, billing won't start for me until the 6th of December.

I agree with your assessment, though. That is most likely what they are preparing for.

Yeah, anyone who joined between release and October 25th got the free 60 days ( I joined October 6th, so my sub ends December 6th).

FF14 has a true 30 day time limit nice.Well maybe SE will add retainers before trial ends in game to squeeze a little money out of the people that's leaving.Someone in a big corporation should've thought of this.

Here's a question...if you used the Buddy Pass, do you get 60 days free or 90 days? Since the buddy pass is supposed to give you 30 days free, but since everyone gets 60 days free does it stack or overlap?

Pure speculation, but perhaps this means the big update is coming this Thursday/Friday? This is the first time they've done something early in the week as it seemed they wanted to keep XI early in the week and XIV late in the week.

Or since last week there was no update this one is just one working day late.

That too, was just hanging onto a glimmer of hope that the update would come before CE folks have to make a tough decision.

Someone said SE uses the kanji for "last 10 days of the month" for their update schedule.

Therefore, we could assume the update will arrive at November 22nd the earliest :)

You'd get 60. 30 days with client plus the extra 30 SE gave everyone.

It's 30. You had to register an account before October 25th to get the extra 30 days free.

I might have read him wrong, I was assuming he'd already used the buddy pass key before the deadline and was already in his 60 days. But if he was meaning if he used it now, then you're correct and he'd only have the original 30.
