With the FFXIV Free-Trial(?Paid Beta?) coming to an end undoubtedly many people will move on to greener pastures. I think its fair to say that many FFXIV fans on these boards were also huge fans of FFXI. Thats why I am so interested in what games players will swap to. What will wet your whistle for that unique flair/magic that FFXI had? I find disappointment in so many mainstream MMOs I was really rooting for 14's success. Has anyone found that magic elsewhere or think they see it in an upcoming title? For me the most enjoyment I have had is through the new Nexxon game Vindictus. Sure its a free MMO but it has an amazing engine and has provided many hours of stress-free enjoyment for me. So how about it where is your next fix coming from?

Playing Aion at the moment, it's a lot of fun. I'll be looking into TERA when it comes out.

Staying put. FFXIV has potential, next few months look promising.

T.E.R.A looks interesting but there aren't really any MMO's I'm looking forward to.

In the mean time, I'm playing some fantastic Jrpgs : Lost Odyssey and blue dragon. both games are created by the guy originally behind Final Fantasy and it really shows. Lost Odyssey plays just like a old school FF game.

I think I posted this somewhere else, but if FFXIV doesn't do it for me (I'm staying so just talking hypothetically in the future) then I think I'm done with MMO's. I'm 32, I work full time, go to school half time, have a wife, two kids, and a mortgage. I don't think there would be anything else that would appeal to me after this, so I hope it gets the best efforts of SE for the next 6-8 months to make it the game I know it can be.

I'm moving to EVE Online.

I will check back on FFXIV in 6 months to see if SE has made good on their promises, but right now I'm loving EVE although I realise that it's certainly not to everyone's taste.

I don't think there really has anything that competes on the same level as what FFXI did so well. I think that's the main reason why so many people (myself included) have been so frustrated at the state it was released in. This was supposed to be our FFXI for the next 4-5 years.

Personally, I'll be looking to SW:TOR to fill the void. Until then I'm having a good time with non-mmo's. Catching up with my backlog (arkham asylum, valkyria chronicles, FFXIII [reluctantly], etc).

I'm in the same boat as Wint. I don't plan on leaving FFXIV for anything else in the foreseeable future, but if the rumored Wheel of Time MMO ever comes to fruition and is actually good, that'd probably be the only thing I'd give time to in the MMO genre.

I don't know what I'm going to do ... there really isn't any thing out there right now as far as MMO's go, at least that I personally enjoy. I absolutely hate PvP so games like EVE Online and Aion are completely out.

WoW was fun while it lasted (yeah yeah, I know, I said WoW) but the game has gotten too boring. They don't add anything in their expansions. Cataclysm is a big disappointment (Beta Tester). They did some good things to some of the classes, some bad things, but as far as the gameplay goes ... it's just more of the same. They added two new races ... big bleeping deal, races mean nothing in non-PVP play. Add some new classes however.... then we're talking.

Star Wars: The Old Republic might be possible, I honestly don't know much about it. I read an article about how space combat was scripted and on rails which made me go "WTF?!?". Galaxies had full control space combat why the **** can't Bioware do the same or even better? But no, they take a giant step backwards =/ Then there is the PvP issue, I don't know yet if it will be open PvP or if I can happily play the game without going near it (and not suffer for it).

Wheel of Time ... what an awesome book series. I'm reading the book that released this month as we speak, nearly finished with it. Odd to think that in just a year or so the series will finally be completed after so many books. Because I do like the books so much ... I think I would be disappointed in anything they did for a game. Who knows though, I would cry if they made it into an open PvP game. I kind of hope for a movie series also ... but they'd probably butcher the entire story horribly (Harry Potter would probably be the easiest comparison for most people) or destroy the ending (Lord of the Rings).

I've in part already moved on...though, for some odd reason, I still think FFXIV will come into its own. Meaning it can go either one of two ways, SE shuts FFXIV down or they provide the fixes and other content and make the game markedly better.

If for some reason I don't resubscribe next year then the only game that piques my interest is Guild Wars 2, though I don't see that game providing as "deep" of an experience at least in comparison to FFXI, for example.

So I don't know. Like some of you, I'm getting older and just want to relax and find a game or games that I can enjoy. I like BioWare games though I'm not a fan of their MMOs. TOR just doesn't look interesting though I love their single player games. Eh, we'll see.

I'll play some Guild Wars 2, since it will free and doesn't require much time commitment. Not leaving until then, but if I did.. it'd be Guild Wars 1 again.

I'm 41 and have all but the kids and school, and plan to play more. :P No reason at all these need to be mutually exclusive.

If you don't enjoy XIV, don't pay to play. It's that simple for most of us. Wint may be the odd man out..since it's his job. But the rest of us...we can choose. I choose to play. Anyone is welcome to choose otherwise.

No no, I'm staying because I enjoy the game. What I meant to convey is if for some reason SE doesn't keep the game running, or I find my time so limited that I can't play much anymore, then at that point I think I'm done with MMOs. Right now though Family/Work/School > video games (I know, what kind of ***** up priorities are those? Smiley: tongue)

Next up for me is the DC universe online beta, maybe the release. Could be a POS, but it might actually be the casual friendly, active/interesting combat game that FFXIV was advertised as. After that, its either TOR or GW2, whichever comes first. Especially GW2 since there's no monthly fee.

I'm going to be going to wow until swtor comes out, then gonna give that a try. It's too much fun to play wow because being able to take on hole packs of mobs and rolling face makes me feel heroic. Also watching my dad do the MC hammer dance always gets me rolling on the floor laughing.

If I cancel XIV, I can't see myself going back to other MMO's. I recently canceled XI, but for me Abyssea killed that game off. I realize it's done incredibly well with the majority of players, but it feels as though they murdered the whole game so you can do Abyssea all day. WotG is finally coming to an end, but with the level cap raise, people will rush through it and be done with it in a months time.

The other thing with XI, if you've consistently played with XIV over the past couple months, it REALLY shows it's age. The graphics still look OK I suppose, but the game play is beyond slow. FFXIV isn't even that fast, but XI just really really slows down in comparison. I'd probably go back to XI in a heartbeat if they just updated their engine, but I realize that will never happen.

No more mmo for me.. till SWTOR, Guild Wars 2.. or a new AAA title mmo release.. Every current modern MMO game really bore me.. FFXI is done with for me.. FFXIV sucked nipples.. WoW is overplayed for me... Aion played it.. turns out it has no replayability with obscene level of grind fest, repetitive nonsense, and the ganking is just wtf in that game.. Guild Wars 1 also overplayed for me.. Warhammer online was trash.. Age of conan was trash.. LOrd of the rings online- maxed out 5 characters and waiting on isengard which god knows when it's going to release..

My time with free MMO with cash shops is over.. so I won't be going anywhere near those parts.. Absolutely fed up with that bs anyways..

In the mean time .. I am re-beating Pokemon Emerald.. Also I am playing Mass Effect 2 with all DLC on a second playthrough on insanity to get the perfect save :D for mass effect 3.. Mass effect 2 is a briiliant game .. definitely give it a go if you're bored with trashy mainstream nonsense as of late.. Mass effect 2 is one of very few mainstream game that is worth playing at the moment :) .. Also playing dragon age origins.. as my filler for rpg.. As you can see I am not a console gamer.. **** I haven't own a console since the game boy color :( ...

Since there is virtually nothing to spend money on for the next few months regarding video games.. Might as well go camp it up on steam's client. and wait the massive incoming game sale..

I have little hope for FFXIV... these "promises" seems like a desperate way for SE to milk the dead cow more...

I went back to Warhammer online, way better than release, not all that glitchy anymore either, and most classes are pretty balanced, just proof that a **** game on release can turn out good i suppose

Thanks for the great feedback. I think GW2 and Tera look fun but its interesting you guys would suggest it because they look like they will be nothing like FFXIV at all. On the note of GW2 and Tera though another game called Firefall comes to mind. It might be worth checking out as well.

It's interesting that people used to complain on FFXI that they didn't get to play on release (NA release was a year after JP release), and that the JP received a huge advantage. Early stages of this remind me a lot of the early stages of FFXI...

I dunno yet. I have several single-player games I want to play, but somehow I always feel "too busy" to play. But I never feel too busy to post here, so maybe I'll just hang around here. I seem to like it.

Vindictus looks pretty fun to me, but I'm not crazy about the character limitations. I've had my eye on TERA, but I'm going to have to be convinced that it's not just another Korean grind.

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

I'm also looking forward to Guild Wars 2. I'm probably going to be taking a break from FFXIV when the free trial ends and will likely stay MMORPG free until either FFXIV improves or Guild Wars 2/Star Wars: TOR launches.

Speaking of Guild Wars 2, here's a 54 minute gameplay video that I linked on ZAM's GW2 forums (yes, it exists~):

http://vid.buffed.de/v/mvzjEXAUHA7/Guild-Wars-2/Wartower-Spotlight-GC-2010-Folge-7

43 minutes = awesome.

I think ppl wanting to play the new star wars game may get dissapointed.
ffxiv esk combat as in no auto attack. Game looks like WoW with lightsabers, and upon release the gamecan be 100% solo while missing content. To me that looks like a glorigied single player game not an mmo. Some early combat really looked bad. Just a fair warning though. Not saying the game gonna fail. just was following since knights of the old republic was one of my fave rpg and was diisappointed how anti mmo it looks.
once i get to playing im here to stay, currently playing ffxi till ps3. I just hope the community is better by then.

I rarely play one game anyway, and i'm 38 with a full time job, bills, etc..
Playing Aion still, since i put a lot of work into it waiting for FF lol. I love EVE, but hate the fact that i got into it long after it came out. It's still playable, but i'd rather join an MMO from launch. So if FF XIV doesn't pan out for some reason, i'll still have Aion.
