According to the usual leaks from Famitsu/dengeki posted via 2ch, it appears that the PS3 version is finally complete as far as developement goes. Supposedly Famitsu has also an interview about it that mentions the only big difference being textures. Of course, until there's the actual magazine scan/info, this has to be treated as rumor.

Original post via andriasang for the non-JP speaking people:

Would be nice if Elmer can later confirm this, as I don't have access to the magazine (so I'm relying on what's written on Japanese boards), and FFXIV scans usually aren't done since most 2ch people hate it.

UPDATE: Andriasang confirmed it.

Well hopefully that means it will be on schedule for a March release. Honestly though, I would not be the least bit surprised if that truly was a rumor, as I have a sneaking suspicion that the PS3 release will be delayed while they iron out all the PC problems. I'm not sure how I'd feel about a PS3 delay. Part of me would like to begin with a polished game, but I think more of me just doesn't care and is excited just to start playing.

However, assuming that it is true, not just a rumor, what would be the chance that PS3 version comes out before March? I'm not sure SE ever said "in March" but has always said "by March." I guess that would bring it from a 0.5% chance to 1.0% chance of being released before March. :)

In the Financial earnings report it was listed as "Early March" (probably to be sure to publish it before the end of their fiscal year).

im pretty sure some people are gonna misinterperate what this means

the version being "done" only means that they arent adding more for it(beyond what will get patched due to stuff being added normaly for pc version)
what it means is now they go into heavy bug testing mode and we should see it ready for it scheduled release

Not surprising. THe only issue they stated during the summer (for the delay) was ram issues. I'm sure they've just been optimizing since then.

It's not hard to imagine that what we got in the PC release is pretty much the PS3 client with a config utility. There are no settings in-game that can't be changed on the ps3 (resolution, mouse, etc are all outside the game).

Eurogamer: Is the PS3 version still on course for release in March 2011?

Hiromichi Tanaka: Our priority is to bring satisfaction to Windows players, so we're working hard on that. But as soon as we feel that's done, we will focus on the PS3 version.

That being said, the Windows version is working on PS3 at the moment. We're focusing on optimisation and adjusting the balance as well as fixing all the bugs. We would like to bring it to PS3 players as soon as possible.

Eurogamer interview seemed more "uncertain" about the current state IMO. Supposedly the interview here instead mentions it to be completely playable, with just textures differences (assuming it's true of course).

They have SE basically trying to avoid talking about the PS3 because they want to save that cancellation news until later

ps3 is their biggest clients. In japan more ppl play games on ps3 vs the pc. I think it has to do with how many jobs over there are on pc. So they see pc as work and ps3 as fun. One of the biggest ffxi player base was the japanese ps2 release and american playerbase as well. I like the selective memory ppl have. The game itsn't as bad as reviewers are making it. And SE had said 3 times since launch, WE HAD SERVER STABILITY ISSUES AKA BUGS. It isn't easy to patch stuff in if the server is down due to bugs. But bugs are fixxed for the most part now we getting the game :)
So ps3 will be here in mark. Lets just hope a hurrican don;t cause the launch to be delayed due. Like ffxi on ps2. Hurrican delayed alot of shipment to the east coast.

They still need to Beta test it remember, and that aint gonna be happening anytime soon, their staff are way too busy with more important things.
If Wada really wants to "regain our trust" he wouldn't dream of telling them to skip it

I can see the PS3 version being delayed, maybe by a month or so I reckon.

Also it's interesting to see there wont be any UI tweaks, especially when alot of the text is very small and hard to read from a distance. I hope this means it's just included in the PC update before the game comes to PS3, because it's already hard especially when I just wanna sit back with a controller. I hate hunching over my screen.

Set your textures to Low. The textures used have significantly less detail to them. It's like I bought all new armor when I upgraded my video card and took textures from Low to High.

Textures take up a tremendous amount of memory. Reducing the size of the textures greatly improves the memory footprint of the game. It will make the game look less impressive, but since memory is a consideration on consoles, it's a tradeoff they have to make.

I've noticed alot of games using smsller font sizes. Like i played heavy rain and needed a magninfying glass just to set my games difficaulty level. Same for alot of games.
