Do you use the Lodestone's blogging feature?Follow

#1 Nov 17 2010 at 6:24 AM Rating: Excellent
If you've ever used the Lodestone you've probably noticed it has a blog feature for your characters. In fact, roleplayers across Besaid, Lindblum, and a few other servers have been using these as a form of "Roleplaying Journals" for their characters. While I know some shun the idea of roleplay (And I kindly ask you keep any negativity regarding RPers or whatever out of the thread, thank you.) there are others who accept and even sometimes enjoy it. Personally I have been using mine as an IC journal as of late for things that have been happening to my character as I RP. It's fun, and enjoyable to read other entries made by different players alike. So while first off it's sort of a shameless excuse to show off my character's journal, I also want to ask if anyone else has considered using it themselves, be it for non-RP stuff or RP-related stuff. It's great sometimes to read the stories or little excerpt from another player's point of view in Eorzea so I'm hoping those who haven't got on board may consider doing so. And if you have, please post a link to your blog on the Lodestone here. As long as it deals with FFXIV I wouldn't mind seeing how the adventures of others are going. So without any more hesitation, here's my blog on the Lodestone:

If you want to feel free to leave a comment there what you think but please be tasteful and if you feel the need to criticize do so respectfully is all I ask. Thank you and can't wait to see what else the ZAM community's been blogging on about their adventures in Eorzea!

Yes, I use it. Sort of to keep track of what I have done or observed in-game.

Not yet, perhaps I will in the future, but don't really have much use for it right now. Maybe when they add LS pages & info...

I've run across it many times wondering what it was, lol.
Also, just to elaborate a bit, you can look up your character on the same site.
It is kept very up-to-date (I think it is live updating) and shows all of your class ranks and your physical level.
It also show you what you currently have your attribute/elemental points invested into.
Great post!

The only post in mine is a guide on how to use party search and recruit. I was hoping people would see it because so many people just don't understand that feature.

**** no. Unfortunately, the current state of the Lodestone is dismal. That interface is the most awfully designed ostensibly high trafficked site I've encountered in a long time.

The navigation is awful, the layout is awful, the high-contrast oxidated color palette is awful. It's like someone at SE never used the internet, read a book on social media and interactive web platforms, and built the site from first principles. I'm not questioning the content, functionality available to end users, or back-end architecture, but they really need to put a few dedicated UX experts on the Lodestone to redesign it. Even the guys who designed the in-game UI might be able to help (if you play with a gamepad, you know the interactions aren't all that bad).

If SE wants XIV to be a first-class MMO, until the Lodestone is comparable to other good gaming sites (Battle.net, for example) I have no use for the website other than to look up randoms who want to party with me.

I only ever see it hotlink JP blogs so I haven't even looked into it. The only English blog I ever saw was about how fail the game and lodestone are.

Haven't had a reason too yet. Also, I don't bring my security token with me to work so I can't log into the lodestone from work.

I haven't used it much, but I made two linkshell recruiting posts. I plan to use it more once I get higher up or when a cool event happens and I want to remember it.

I used to use it before finding some other entertaining FFXIV sites. There's a lot of fun stuff there.

I wrote a blog at work on day 3 after release but could not post it due to not having my electronic key thing with me to access my account on Lodestone.

Still sitting saved on my desktop - just never got round to posting.

Reading it again now though, it reminds me of a happier time!

Sparingly. Only two posts so far.

http://lodestone.finalfantasyxiv.com/rc/diary/top?cicuid=1537267

It's sort of like, I want to? But at the same time I sort of don't? There are a variety of issues holding me back from taking part in using my Lodestone blog, much less trying to track or get involved in whatever community exists on the Lodestone from people using their blogs. To name a few:

1) {I'm sorry. I don't understand.} {English} {Can you speak it?}
The biggest problem to me so far is the fact you can't filter out blogs by the user's primary language. Anyone who visits the Lodestone regularly can probably attest to the fact that the newest blog entries on the right of the page are, more often than not, anywhere between 80-100% Japanese.

I love international communities as much as the next player, but this is a spot where it becomes detrimental. I can't just will myself to suddenly learn another language. They really need to try and add some sort of language filter in to the search options, so I can enjoy reading entries.

2) Customizability, please?
I'm not asking too much. At least, I don't think I am. But it would be nice to have some flexibility in what we can do, what we can write, how we can write, and so on. Bold, italics, underlines, being able to change our character's picture on our blogs ... I could probably rattle off some more things, but I think you get the idea. I think if we are able to upload images as we can now, being able to upload some sort of 100x100 face shot to replace the standard issue ones we all get would be great.

Aion actually had an interesting way of doing this via Java, where you would be able to see your character in moving real time, and even crop out a picture which was then made your avatar.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

I am sure there are more things I could think of tossing in, but I'm busy reading some class books right now. :-p

Outside of server announcements/updates/etc on the main page, Lodestone is a waste of bandwidth.

Well, alright. I can't say I've ever needed the function, but I guess it's good for those who do.
