I am rank 24 Mrd and am still wondering if there are any beastmen other than the occassional kobold leve. Now I am one of those that is really ****** at the game mostly because of the UI but forget that I have to question what type of development team does not think to add any interesting mobs to the game. Really freaking ladybugs, sheep, squirrels, and oh boy the big crab. Where is the imagination. Every other MMO I have ever played had way better fights even early on in the game. No enemy compounds to sneak into, no quests at all but too weak leves, and really nothing fun to do. I want to kill cool ****, isn't that what most games are about. **** in WoW and FFXI you get to fight enemies right off the bat. I am feeling sorry for all the innocent wildlife that is being killed.

Beastmen are a key player in the story quest.
#3Cheesdog, Posted: Nov 18 2010 at 3:48 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Not really, but even so...is that it? Is this all the imagination that a multi-million dollar development team can come up with. I want this game to be fun, I bought it and play it less and less however, and patiently waiting for fixes. I am starting to believe that SE didn't really care too much about this game, didn't care that it fails, and didn't care that they had an opportunity to make something great for gamers and a cash cow for their company. Who doesn't want the WoW numbers, isn't it all about money for these companies anyway? Who at this company thought it was a good idea to add only boring wildlife mobs for the entire game?

lol... yeah, anyone that looked over my shoulder while playing ffxi was like "killin beetles and grasshoppers again?"

I would love to see a real 'enemy.' Not ferocious ladybugs, fat birds, and goats.

just like 11, there will always be a rabbit that can kill you.

Ul'dah has those lizard type beast-men, the ones that summon Ifrit. If you exit Ul'dah and head to the southern most area there, wait a bit for the mobs to spawn as you might think its barren, but its not. I saw one there when the game 1st went live. It was a PUG type mob, one shotted me with a fireball attack. I took a screen shot.

..I, have the screenshot. It was open beta sry, they might not be there anymore. I haven't gone over there since retail was released.

I couldn't agree more. In XI there was instantly a threat, a reason to go out and "train" and try to get more experience so you could help defend your city. Ghelsba was a ten minute walk from San d'Oria! Sometimes there would be a goblin right at the front door!

I'm only GLA 16 but I've been playing XIV since launch, and I've only seen one beastman on the far east side of Thanalan. What exactly are we killing all these marmots and beetles for? Just to get better at killing more marmots and beetles? I know at later levels there is supposedly more involvement with the beastmen, but what about the six months it's going to take me, a fairly casual player, to get to that level? I'm just supposed to stay happy & entertained killing my 10,000th marmot?

I found some in a cave by Cassiopeia Hollow. They were dark red at rank 23 so I ran the other direction. The cave seemed to be to another area, not one of the dead-end ones.

*EDIT* They looked like Elezen, so I guees they weren't really beastmen.

There's a "dungeon" type mountain near camp Horizon with Ogres in it, too.

The Piestes look pretty darn cool to me. Both my friend and I can't wait to get our revenge on them for the multiple deaths they dealt our low-level ******
The Hogs are pretty impressive too... one killed me when I was trying to do my first Botany guild quest because it was standing in the middle of the narrow path and I just had no way to pass it without drawing aggro (which at the time I wasn't 100% sure it was an aggro mob, now I am 110% sure). I found an alternate route, but still had to sneak around another hog.
Morbols, an FF staple, are in Gridania near Camp Tranquil.
If you head from LL to Camp Skull Valley, there's a cave off of the north side of the road that leads to an area that looks isolated on the map... I ran through there and saw a cool volcano in the distance, and a bunch of salamanders and things far too close for my tastes, so I turned around and ran back very quickly.

Poke around the niches, corners, and caves here and there and you might see some things that will become your personal goal to kill, hopefully giving you the incentive to rank/level that you're looking for.

Sincerely,
Ailys Foxglove

Yes. It's so retarded. Oh, getting killed by one of those LV 99 mice again >.>...
Seriously, one super-rodent per game/movie is plenty:

I know what you mean, I miss the Goblins, Orcs, Quadavs and Yagado type mobs in the early areas.

That feeling that there were Enemies roaming about, rather than just wildlife.

Ones that you sometimes had to avoid. I know there are some in FFXIV, but they are few and far between and well hidden.

And where's the the epic monsters? Like in FFXI we faced that Dragon and the evil eye in the third part of the first city mission. That really started the whole feeling of whats to come. The warning of the Evil Lord.

I've only done up to the rank 20 mission in FFXIV so I don't know if there's a similar feeling to come.

But I hope there is.

There is a currency tab in the inventory list. Right now the only currency you're carrying is gil. I'm thinking the only reason that tab is there in the first place is if you'll be able to get other forms of currency in the future such as beastman coins.

The currency tab also lists your guild marks. Before i discovered this I was running to the guilds to check ;p

Guild marks go inside the currency tab as well. Also, beastman coins don't go in the currency tab, they're actual items.

Now that I think of it, at treespeak there is a rare ixali spawn that wipes groups sometimes.

On the one hand, the beastmen being so powerful in this game makes them more of a threat. "Don't mess with the beastmen, they'll kill us all!" So that's kind of cool.

On the other hand, there were beastmen alongside for every step of your journey. I liked there being discernible tiers and ranks within each beastman tribe. It felt good when I was finally able to kill Young Quadavs in Gustaberg, chipping away at the enemy ranks. And it was cool when you felt comfortable in Palborough Mines, but then learned about some mysterious, scary place out in the marshlands where Quadavs reign king. Learning that the strongholds you've been infiltrating were only the tip of the iceberg was a really cool feeling.

The only beastmen I've seen in XIV were some Quiqirn and I saw Kobolds in a behest once. I know they're out there, but they have no presence. Maybe when I move along through the story quests it'll change, but there aren't any grunts out scouting the fields like there were in XI.

Headrip Ogre looks freaking awesome. Wish there were more mobs around like it.

Yes, there are plenty of beastmen in the game, whether you'll bump into them is another matter altogether...here are the ones I've seen (and some fought)

* Headrip Ogre - Mor Dhona, in some caves of Uldah
* Ixali Fencer - Inhabits certain areas of Gridania, usually in spots where Efts spawn. Groups can take it down though.
* Qiqrn - One of the more common beastmen, in many dungeons/caves. Has a very painful AoE/one-shot attack.
* Sylphs - Other than the R26 Story quest and a faction leve, they're a bit rare...
* Goobue - Populates the areas near Iron Lake in Limsa Lominsa, as well as there being one or two in the areas around the other camps
* Kobolds - Behests + Faction Leves

And even if you don't run into beastmen, you can still run into a heap of humanoid targets, be they crazy Knuckle-wielding Mi'Qotes, or zombified Lancers...

I do agree though, it feels that you have to go out of your way sometimes to encounter these...
