As with FFXI and any other MMO's we as players will always have our Noob moments, eventhough we may know that they are noob moments, they still may just feel right at the time, until one day we look back and say..."I really did that????"

I know FFXIV is still an infant, and most are still newbs, and others haven't even had the chance to be a newb yet, and yet even still some will always have noob moments even when they are far removed from being newbs, but here are my moments:

Day 1 CE Release: I travel out to fight my first time and kill a couple marmots. I then try /heal, /rest, looks for my rest command...nothing! I then proceed to run through Grid with my weapon drawn shouting "How do you heal" with no replies. So finally I push every button on my controller, and sure enough one puts my weapon away and I start to regain HP. I ran off quietly...

I get this crafting leve for Camp Nine Ives...wherever that is...I think it was a CRP leve. I know how to make my maple lumber, so I make the, I hink 8 mapl lumber required and run out to Camp Nine Ives and try to trade my lumber to the NPC, he wont take it, I talk to him, he tells me I haen't completed the requested items yet...after trying the same things over a few more times I get frustrated and warp back to Grid. Later on I am back to crafting, and notice this "Requested Item" tab near the top, so I click on it...holy blacksmoke batman...there is my leve, and blam, there are the mats I need!

I keep making all this cool stuff, bu my retainer never sells any of it...wth is going on. So I go to see where my retainer is in Lotus Gardens, but I cannot enter, but wait theres a symbol, let me check that out...warp to market den...ok Whiteoak looks good. I get to the zone and yet another symbol pops up so I check it out again...summon retainer...then it clicks in my thick skull that my retainer wasn't selling anything cause even though "Ladyshady" is one fine retainer, she was just chilling in limbo!

Anyone else have any good nob moments?

I think my biggest noob moment was when my LS and I were running leves at Camp Bloodshore. Now at this time, we are all around r16-18 trying to do r20 leves. One of the leves we had was the one with the Roselets and those Ladybugs at the end. We were deciding on what difficulty to set it on and of course me and my big mouth went ahead and said, "Oh, 5 star, easy np". Of course we went and got the **** beat out of us and ended up having to abandon the leve. So now whenever we gear up to do something a bit more challenging (be it a leve or not) it's become the LS joke to always say "Oh we got this. 5 star, easy np." /sigh ><

Second one isn't my own noob moment, but it's pretty good anyway. A few of us were running leves at Camp Emerald Moss one day. Another leve came up and once again the question of what difficulty came up. This time I asked what the mob was. The answer I got back was "squirrels". Okay, I thought, squirrels aren't that bad. So we put it on around 3 or 4 star. We had killed squirrels before on that setting. Problem is, it turns out that they were not squirrels at all. It was Scale Puks. Of course we once again got the **** beaten out of us. So now the LS joke is that all Puks are "squirrels." We also call them "Ris squirrels" or "squirrels, Ris style." Ris being shorthand for the name of my friend who told us they were squirrels.

We die a lot in my LS if you can't tell by now lol.

I was doing botany in Thanalan, around Drybone. I KNEW that sometimes Desert Piestes wander around that area, and I saw a bunch of orange dots around, but didn't really account for all of them on my quick visual sweep before I began logging this tree next to a cliff.

Sure enough, just as I was getting to the minigame, a Pieste comes up the ramp leading up from the bottom of the cliff not but 15 yalms from me and does its little "aggro-activated" animation.

I barely managed to put my hatchet away before it killed me.

Needless to say, I now make sure my beastie checks include nearby-but-out-of-sight areas.

My only real noob moment thus far was when my boyfriend and I were exploring La Noscea together. We came across a flytrap type mob that I thought was cool looking, so I went for a closer look. He warned me against it, but I had been standing near it for a moment or two already, so I was feeling confident enough. "Nah, I think I'm oka--*death*--...oh." Nothing too special, but now I don't touch new mobs with a ten foot pole.

My favorite noob moment in FFXI was when I first traveled to Konschtat Highlands with my sister and our friend. It just so happened that an elemental was floating by and I, being the observant little WHM that I was, decided to cast Protect/Shell on us all just in case it saw fit to aggro us as those pesky goblins in Gustaberg had. I think you FFXI veterans will know exactly how far those spells went toward determining our safety.

Press U on your keyboard and it will bring up a small window with the items you can eat/use in there. Select the item you want and you will use it.

Just last week I opened up a guy's bazaar and saw this: "Fire Crystal --------------- 10 -- Seeking." I highlighted the item and saw "11,000 gil" and thought to myself "wow this is too good to be true, this guy must have made a mistake, fastest 110,000 gil ever!" and hastily made my purchase. 3 seconds later I realized I just sold 10 Fire Crystals for 1,100 each...

Yep, I did this too. I thought I was in daisies because I already had a ton of the Growth Formula Alphas; what I didn't have were crystals to make more. Smiley: oyvey

I'm still a noob as it is, so I have plenty of noob moments: I just started doing guildleves yesterday, so that's my latest one. I tell you I'm getting points pretty quick now, though.

Its a Dodo?

Hmm it looks killable...

Woot its con red!

But its just a Dodo.

What can a Dodo do? They look stupid.

*Some random lalafell comes up from behind and hack the Dodo for 15 points of dmg, after 25sec of bloody encounter gets floored and the Dodo feast on the entrails*

Ok, its not just a Dodo.

My first day playing I teleported from Bentbranch to Gridania (and back!) because I was too lazy to walk.
After wasting my anima, a friend of mine told me how slowly it regenerates. :(

I've got some stupid moments but think I'll share the usual...

Even if I've played this for 2 months, AND during beta for a couple weeks, I still find myself getting lost or taking the scenic routes.

Hey look, 3 doors leaving the Adventurer's Guild in Ul'dah and I need to get to the Weaver's Guild! I'll just go out the eastern door, thru a hallway, cross this way, and I'm there! Nope, how about we go thru the northern door way, down a ways past the Merchant Row, thru a corridor, past the CORRECT hall, oh wait, let's back up, down the CORRECT hall, and finally to the Guild.

Gridania!!! Let's travel from the Aetheryte to the Adventurer's Guild! Okay, so I'll go south, no wait, that's the gateway out... So let's try north and hey! There's the market wards, and the Conjurer's Guild! And, hey isn't that the theater? Oh let's try south now, past the Carpenter's Guild, let's go past the Choco dude, oh look there's the gate out... No, that's not right, it's NORTH to the Adventurer's Guild, yay I arrived!

Let's head to Camp Horizon from Ul'dah! Yea I've got plenty of leves to do. I'll hunt this! Then I'll kill that, and maybe I'll get some more items to sell... Hey that leve reward was pretty cool and okay! I've arrived! Wait... This isn't right... Isn't this Camp Drybone? Ohhhh Horizon was in the OTHER direction!

Yes, these still happen from time to time especially the Gridania and Ul'dah ones. Or perhaps I'll be trying to reach Limsa's market wards and head north instead of south! Yea, this justice place must be the- Wait a minute! South is the wards!!!

Starting out and talking to every NPC thinking "Well, SOMEONE has to have a quest for me!"
Failing to realize that I can actually have "/aoe on" till I was like rank 10 or so >_> and sometimes using it, thinking that it's a random effect rather than me accidentally turning it on <_<

EDIT: Aaah xD forgot my most retarded one :P .... Using /sit emote then not being able to get up for 15 minutes *facepalm*

day 1 of beta i had no idea that leves gave you specific mobs to kill, and everyone was doing the same "intro" leve. So i ran around trying to kill everyone elses mobs thinking their was some trick to it, like attacking right when they move, or staying still before you attack. lost the leve. Next leve i figured out you are assigned specific mobs to kill.

During my first day of FFXIV, I noticed that mobs were scarce and there was heavy competition to claim them for sp gains. As I ran my first few leves, I would rush to the leve mobs to claim them, even if I was half dead, for fear of someone else claiming them...

I'm such a pro, that when I finally got Aegis Boon for my gladiator, I equipped it to main hand, and was like "zomgwtf doesnt work!!!" and posted on other forums about it being brokenz!!!. Yeah >.> 'equip to offhand'
the funny part is, I'd seen both the options "equip to mainhand and equip to offhand" several times while ranking up and equipping new skills. Just got so excited about aegis boon, i forgot about offhand option.

in my defense though, it DOES let you equip it to main hand lol, its just greyed out and doesn't work.

I did a leve and I felt energetic so I did another leve before heading back to Baderon. Then I wanted to see what I was supposed to do next:

I talked to every single NPC I could find in LL before the truth dawned on me.

When returning to bearded rock I had a very different feeling about the now ominous levitating rock that talks to me.

I think one of my dafter moments came when I tried to 'level up' my weaver by running into the fields and fighting monsters. I figured if Conjurers can get XP that way, then surely so can any other class. Boy was I disappointed when I found my previously equipped Conjurer spells were all greyed out and rock throw dealt all of 4 damage on a critical hit!

Suffice to say, retreating from a marmot was not a career highlight.
