I got an email from SE this morning with a fantastic photo in it. I've been on the fence with XIV for a while, but if all NMs are this epic I may finally commit.
Look at the size of that thing compared to the Hyur trying to tank it. Sweet Jeebus...

I got it. I was pretty impressed by the monster. Can't wait to run up against something like that.

WoW. Not only do they make them bigger, they make them uglier. That works for me.

And a monster like that should be dropping some good loot, that will be a nice treat for us all.

Pixelpop mentions something important below... camera angle. A mob the size of a 3 story house with a melee standing in attack range, the melee won't be seeing much of the top half of the beast. Then again the image to scale for the game... so we'll see.

I just looked at it.

It reminds me of strolling along La Theine, or Konschtat for the first time and seeing Steelfleece or Bloodtear.

These sorts of things give you a reason to PT or to level to maybe one day eventually solo it.

Especially if they drop something nice.

Well SE did say they wanted this game to be graphically impressive.

I did see that email and I was like now THAT IS A NM!!!

Reminds me of the 1st time I saw some HNM's in XI. Jourmy!!!! God.. my 1st wipe to him was awesome. Was my 1st time at a taste of all that HNM, End game stuff and seeing so many people wipe was fantastic.

No I AM NOT SUICIDLE :)

I'm with you on that one. I can just hear the ground shaking from the footsteps now :D. Looking forward to that and other NM's in the upcoming patches.

MNK purple belt quest. 'Twas a weekend and quite a few people out there looking for Lumbering Lambert for the horn. Some of us chattin' it up, making it a friendly competition. Pop! But it's not Lambert Smiley: frown Many dead monks lying on the grass...

That is, indeed, quite epic looking.

Things do seem to be looking better for SE...incidentally, I only realised this news letter was in my ISP's mail inbox, not my normal one :o

Anyway... Nice patch :)

-Prominent horns
-Spikey black mane.
-Huge and muscular.
-Signature purple colour

Money on this being a Behemoth.
(Marid is the backup option)

Good assumption but I don't think it's a Behemoth. It's missing the prominent fangs of death!

My money is on marid or maridlike thing as well, since it's missing the characteristic thick tail, feral face, and more catlike appearance that behemoths generally have, and it's horns are facing straight out instead of the typical foward like a behemoth. (Ok, Ok, sometime's they're more bullish than cattish, but it's usually a mix of the two.) Plus, the legs look like a pachyderm, not a feral beast, and it's got more chest hair than a disco dancer from the 70's.

That, and I want a better behemoth than this. :( This screams marid, not behemoth!

P.S. to SE: Can you add behemoths that are more classical in appearance again, like older FF? Or better yet, similar to the ones from FFXII? I thought those ones were both original and awesome looking, though the king behemoth in that game was a ripoff of the wyrms. <.<;

Are you kidding me? You could hang tremor rams to this thing's horns like Christmas ornaments.

that NM looks awesome, i really like some of the monster designs so far.
but one thing, FFXIV has a very close up in your face camera view as compared to every other MMO, so pretty much all melee will only be seeing a hoof or two the whole time.

Is there an exact date set for this November patch? Also, do we have any information on when the December one is coming?

There is a concept image of a behemoth in the FFXIV collector's edition journal. Open it up if you want to see what they're probably going to look like.

Not the best image as my only camera is my iPhone 3G, but here is the concept art for the Behemoth mentioned by another poster.

My money is on the OP pic being a buffalo also.
