FFXIV in Japanese?Follow

Hi everyone.

I've been wanting to try out FFXIV, but I've been holding back. The reason being that I want to play it in Japanese, but I'm currently living in Canada. I have scowered the internet for information about whether a separate client is required or not and apparently during the beta a single client supported all languages. Is this still the case in the released version? Or is a separate client required like with FFXI?

Thanks for the feedback.

If I remember correctly, there is an option that let's you install the in-game language as Japanese. So you don't need a separate client.

Yeah, I think there is. I at least remember going to the FFXIV config and it was all in Japanese, so I had to change it to English.

When you go to the FFXIV Config the very first box asks what language you want to use. I've been using it to freely change back and forth with the Japanese collector's edition with no problems.

This is great news. I take it everything is in Japanese then? Menus, logs, voice acting too?

Everything is in Japanese except the voice acting, the voice acting in all regions is in English, but any client can be played in any language. Why is the voice acting in English for all regions? They had to pick one language to prevent the VO budget from quadrupling, so I suppose they picked the language with the highest penetration rate across all 4 regions.

Guess this makes sense. It's a little saddening though.

Thanks for everyone's replies.

Only a seemingly small portion of the game is actually voice acted, that being said the voice acting isn't horrible from what I've heard so far.

I thought that the voice acting was quite good, actually. Voices are expressive without sounding fake, they are unique but not over-the-top.

minus the red galkan dude in the desert town intro he sounds girly. I was like WAH!!!!!!!!! and fell out of my chair anime style. If you really wanna hear bad voice acying just play two worlds {{Shudders}} what is one epically bad game.

It's no FFXII(Amazing) but it's certainly not FFXIII(Awful) either...

Let the flames of this post commence... /derail

I thought they only made the starter videos voice acting in order to attract potential buyers.

After that, I've yet to see another VA CS.

There are a few more VO cutscenes for some of the main story quests, but not much.

How do you have so many Rank 20s and have yet to see another voiced over CS? There are VO'd CSes at rank 15. Guess if you chose not to progress the story you wouldn't see them?

Meh, I play with the sound turned off, so I wouldn't know about the voice overs either.
