You see those lines on Character, where shadow drops? Why is this looking like that, What Causing this? Is there a way to fix it? (Changing options didn't help, neither changing Shadow Detail, nor applying or turning of Multisampling, or setting Texture filtering from lowest to Highest)

When you turn of Shadows, all is fine, those lines disapear, you don't have shadows on character but graphic is nice then.

Also This thing only appear on certain camera angels :/ Usually looking a little above on character or bellow. It pains my eyes and i would like to get rid of it but i don't wanna disable Shadows T_T (ah btw. you only see this on skin, I never noticed this when wearing some equipement covering it, but it may or may not be there as well)

I know, I have no idea why this happened. Those lines did not appear during early beta. I noticed it started appearing late beta (shortly before launch).

I've never seen that. What video card do you have?

I have issues with shadows as well, same problem as the op as well as them being only looking realistic from a certain angle, any other angle shadows turn into a mass of pixels along the surface they show up on. This along with a few other things, an example would be seeing through objects to what laid beyond it not sure what it could be called but I don't believe it fits under 'clipping', don't think I ever noticed it when I was playing on a single monitor at 1920x1200 but now that I'm using a surround setup at 6040x1080, its noticeable as ****, especially so in Limsa.

Bit obvious that this game still needs a bit of tweaking graphically and UI wise, and I'm not talking about lag. Maybe WoW spoiled me, but I miss having a UI scale slider. I don't see how the implementation of one would not be something included considering the requirements of this game. I mean how many people are out there running this on a decently sized monitor and having issues with frame rates running the game at their monitor's native resolutions. Being able to play full screen at a reduced resolution would help, but as the resolution goes down, UI size goes up, maybe its just me, but I can't stand having my screen taken up by UI elements. It's little things like this that could make the game better aside from the obvious issues.

#5EmiyaShirou, Posted: Nov 21 2010 at 3:07 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) My video card is of non importance of this thread because I've seen one post on net that even this problem appeared on gtx 4xx (xx because i don't remember the exact number) and also some people in this post noticed the same bug. And if i wrote my GPU you would surely wrote something that is not happening and is of no importance to this thread, So NO i won't tell what GPU I'm running this on but it makes magic come true xD (eg. run this game quiet fine)

Exact same thing happens with mine when I run the game for a long time.

I'm using a Radeon 5770 HD.

Speaking of shadows, I can't figure out what option to use to get shadows to appear on things besides characters&monsters with my GTS250 on windows XP. No buildings or other static objects cast shadows, even with the latest driver.

Mine did the same thing, so i turned shadows off all together. I'm using a GTX 465

Yeah I noticed the same thing. It's downright ugly in some cases (usually indoors on NPCs). I'm using a Radeon HD 6870.

That being said, I kind of wasn't surprised with it. 90% of the games I play, be it console or PC, have downright low res and ugly shadows.

I also noticed if I have ambient occlusion on the topright half of the screen is slightly darker than the bottomleft... that's even MORE annoying lol.

It happens to me too.

Only a 5850. The problem will go away if I use the Highest shadow settings. So its either a performance hit, or, bad shadows glitch.

The problem is I have this on Nvidia card, so as some other people as well :/ So it isn't "Ati Exclusive" ;)

I get it on my Radeon HD 5830 too. Looks like weird stripes in the shadows. It's really bad on goats.

I get this also.

SLi 285's.

I'd say that people with large Monitors are going to notice this more so over people with smaller ones.

I am using a 42" panel with 1920x1080 reso and its highly noticable.

Dunno maybe but I noticed it on smaller resolution, to be exact 1152x864 so probably peeps on smaller ones will notice this too.

This is probably related to the way shadow maps are computed.
To put it simply, shadow maps are masks that allows the engine to know if there is something between a point in space and the light source. This information is used to compute shadows. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shadow_mapping for details.

The problem is that both models and shadow maps are of limited resolution. It means that are some boundary cases where the engine "hesitates", creating these glitches. This is aliasing, but not the kind of aliasing this is addressed by FSAA.
This is especially noticeable with grazing lights.

You can try to tweak the shadow details, resolution, details and FSAA and advanced video driver settings.
But I think the only real solution is a fix from SE. This is not necessarily an easy task : modern 3D engines are usually quite complex and compromises have to be made in order to keep an acceptable frame rate.
