Playing this game is an interesting experience. From a developmental standpoint there are some aspects that were hastily slapped together at the last minute (and I'm not bothered by them, they will be fixed). Then there are other aspects where there's an attention to detail rarely or never seen in other games. I really appreciate the work SE put into the characters, their clothing and their facial expressions. Last night I was in an exp party in the TamTara Deepcroft. The Black Efts there do an AoE bind move and I took notice of the facial expressions and posture the characters have with this status. I thought it was so cool, check out this screenshot:

It looks like a cut scene doesn't it? I find it impressive that the game produces images like this in real time in ordinary situations. SE's devs deserve credit for a job well done with the character models.

I agree wholeheartedly.

The folks who designed the game did put a lot of work into character models, clothing, and environments. The two lalafels look really uncomfortable, and it is the little things like that that impress me.

there's a lot of little moments in this game like that, I really like the mobs as well depending on the situation. I have no doubt that once some more stuff is added to the game, people who give it a second chance shouldn't be dissapointed as the world fleshes out.

Agreed... but I still want my purple hair!

Seriously though, yeah, there are so many little details that you notice when you look (or that occasionly jump out at you... and eat you) that it makes me glad I'm taking the time to do everything at the pace I am.
Especially Botany... and I NEVER would have guessed coming in how much I would enjoy that, but going around and searching the world for logging and harvest points exposed me to some places and things that I'm really looking forward to seeing with my combat class... and killing. :P

If you get a chance, at night near Camp Bloodshore, head out to the cliffs and stand on the edge (maybe get some fishing in)... watch the reflection of the moon on the water. What I noticed about it just floored me, as I sat there fishing throughout the night... that ripply reflection MOVES over the course of the night, tracking with the moon. It just looked so natural, I didn't even realize it until half the night was over and I was like, "Hey, wasn't I casting INTO the reflection a while back... now it's over... IT MOVED!"

The other stuff will be fixed over time, I'm not stressing it either OP. Something tells me that the people who made that reflection, and put the expressions on those Lala faces, and made pretty much anything with eyes blink, genuinely care enough about the game that they'll get it together.

Keep having fun and being pleasantly surprised!

Yay, a positive thread. It is refreshing to read a post that doesn't entail people arguing back and forth with one another for internet superiority about their different opinions and the game's problems.

Yeah, I still can't get over the amount of detail given to all the items behind the tables at each NPC's shop or guild. Also, equipping jewelry and being able to see it with a great deal of detail on my toon shocked me, especially the + stat rings!!! This game looks amazing and should not be overshadowed by everyone's negativity at this point. (we know about the negative crap already)

edit: I think I remember reading about them adding a 'hair salon.' Obviously not by that name, but we will be able to change our hair.

I'm building a nice collection of screenshots of Cloe in various gear and locations, and it never ceases to amaze me how high-detailed the game is. Here's for people's viewing pleasure:

Pugilist, Lancer & Weaver
Thaumaturge
Brand New Spectacles
Pugilist
Baghnahks!
Lancer
Gladiator
Pugilsit with Lancer-Kaestra, LSmate

Hey! Something positive even I can fully agree to!

But to save my face:

The Lalafell "sit-on-a-chair" animation is just 100% perfect, adorable and great.
I just wonder how many working hours/funds went into that rarely-used animation
that could have been spent on something essential like... an item search function?

Because down the road when (assuming) everything is fixed and the game is tons of fun, we'd be complaining because the little guys hover in the center of furniture...

The character models are indeed stunning. I like how angry, sad, happy, etc.(all the other emotes) all have a facial expression that matches. The detail on all the armors is very neat too and I can't wait to see what other gear will be headed our way in the future.

Going back to the facial expressions, although a minor issue, but one that was just a tad annoying in FFXI. I disliked when in FFXI you would do /cheer, /angry, or /joy to name just a few and sure the animations were okay, but no matter what emote your character did, they had a blank look on his/her face.

Glad SE added the little changes in detail too, along with big changes coming in the future.
