Hello, I just began playing FFXIV and I have a few questions. In my travels I'm yet to locate an AH such as in FFXI. Is there really no place to buy and sell goods besides bazaars and vendors? Also can you own an apartment or house or anything?

The geniuses at SE decided to **** off a lot of players by not implementing an AH.

Sadly, you have to go to the market wards, and click on a bunch of bazaars till you find the item you are looking for.

If you don't know where the market wards are, google it, as I'm pretty sure the geniuses at SE decided not to tell you in-game where they are.

In each of the three cities, there are market wards; Battlecraft wards usually contain the most retainer bazaars. At this time there is no Auction House. However, in just a couple of days, SE will be adding search functions to the retainer bazaars. Thus, it will be much like an Auction House... I hope ;)
At this time, there is no place to call "home", such as a mog house or apartment.

No ah i can live with . . .

but not having my own home/apartment to decorate and make my own for storage and having a place to log in does bother me. In XI i loved my mog house :(

1. There is a " FISHING " Class in FFXIV though and you don't need a AH or BAZAAR to buy the bait or equipment.

2. Just started !? What a shame you missed out on all the free subscription time.

3. If you decide to quit, maybe you wont be like other posters who just love to "Lurk"

Okee, that's my rant of the day! Enjoy the game in spite of what you may of read or heard. There is a lot to enjoy. :)

One of the updates (I'm losing track already, I believe its the December one) will introduce Companies which we're all speculating is "a group of linkshells". You can have many linkshells, but only one Company and Companies will have access to their own base, of sorts. The concept art of it showed a very nicely decorated war tent.

So while there doesn't appear to be personal housing at the start, depending on what Company requirements are, you could join in for one of those!

It does bother me a bit too, many games these days are offering a little "safe haven" for people to go. FFXI had the mog houses and since we've got actual crafting jobs I'd absolutely love to see the ability to make furnishings and other decor. Carpenters make like a stool, couch, a weaver crafts the upholstery to cushion or cover it. A goldsmith may make goblets, plates, and little trinkets to put on top of carpenter-made shelves, tables, or stands. With the crafting jobs there's so much potential out there to truly customize your own little residence. I hope SE does consider tapping into this...

Since you can change jobs on the fly, having a place to go to change jobs isn't as important. Storage is another issue, however. You can store items on your retainer and you can call your retainer to you in all of the cities UNLESS you are using your retainer to bazaar. If you have set your retainer to bazaar in a market ward (the only place you can leave them out), you will have to go to them to get your stuff. Not very convenient right now.

There are some changes coming that will make this arrangement more feasible. We should soon be getting the ability to have more than one retainer. (I don't think I saw it with the November update list, so it will probably be in December.) Also, the announced anima reduction for teleporting will make it easier to visit your retainer wherever they are.

I, also, liked decorating my mog house in Windy, so I hope they will be adding that as a feature. It will give the woodworkers something to do with all that lumber and planks.

I can deal with the market ward system, if what they are planning on doing will fix the issues that I have with it. One thing that I really want is a house or apartment. Heck, I'd be happy with a van down by the river. As long as those huge crabs don't stay up all night clacking their huge claws -_-;;

Seriously though, a house would really help make me feel more a part of the world of Eorzea. I loved having that in FFXI, I furnished my own place by leveling carpentry. If they add houses, I'm sure I'll take woodworking back up lol. I don't care if I have a house moogle or not. The one I had was insufferable >_>

Housing is coming when companies are introduced. My understanding is that crafting will be involved in some way or another.

Don't hold your breath for an AH, SE seems pretty married to the idea of market wards. So unless they specifically say that the addition of an AH is imminent, don't expect one to be added.

Considering that "lurking" refers to people who browse a forum without posting anything, I'm having trouble determining what you mean by that exactly. You're saying that the OP should just go away, or you're saying that even if they quit, they should keep posting?

I think he meant "Troll", not "Lurk"

Yeah, I guess it would make sense that way, unless "Lurk" was in quotes because he meant it sarcastically.

Are you talking about the company building they were talking about? Not trying to start an argument, just trying to figure it out. I don't recall them talking about player specific housing. Then again, I know I can miss things.

Indeed, that's what I meant. It's the closest thing to a mog house I have heard of.

For me having my own space, not shared would be a big plus. I had my city banners, crafting anvil from Xi and all the things my friends made me for my house. I even had pots for growing, you name it. and going their to log every night was comforting. After a hard day or xp, sky, sea, HNM hunting, or any other activity I felt like i was putting my avatar to sleep.

I really miss this in XIV, I log out and my poor lalafell sleeps in caves, or along the beach. The sand gets every where and gthe crabs love the C'nida that i have for food.

At this point I'll even take a blood tent alla harry potter style :(

As others have said, no AH and no Mog House at the moment.

The current Bazaar system is frustrating and best and pointless at worst. Hopefully tomorrows update helps out with the search feature.

No mog house is annoying but I'm betting thats coming further down the line. The devs on FFXI did such a great job with the mog houses that I cant see them skipping such a cool feature....

Growing (Pikko loves growing) and all the stupid furniture that entailed
Pointless furniture that you swear helped with fishing!
Dressable mannequins (that burning mannequin quest still haunts me at night to this day)
and my Moogle, he was adorable.

I know we have the retainers do the job of holding gear, but seriously they are nothing like as good as a personal mog house.

Yeah, my moogle was very adorable too. But, he wasn't all that helpful. Not like other people's moogles are. Mine could have a the very least, taken better care of my plants when I was on a long journey -_-;;

Even with that being said, my moogle is a lot better than my retainer. Now that guy is lazy, think I'd be better of just selling everything on my own. I think he just sits there and sleeps or something >_>

lol ppl still qq'ing about a **** ah. get, over, it. plenty of mmo's make u actually interact and try to keep a rmt unfriendly system intact. Not to mention aside from actually having to spend time doing smoething other than killing, it saves you $ and allows you better opportunities for just about every facet of shopping. i digress. hopefully the search function doesnt have price listed or allow auto purchase or we're introuble.

ding ding ding ding! We have a winner!

I wish more people would see it this way. We don't need a freaking AH, imo the search they are adding sounds perfect. I suppose we'll find out for sure tomorrow evening though.

Spend time doing what? Clicking on retainer after retainer? No one is playing this game to browse retainer. Also how is this saving you $(giles). Please explain to the rest of the world how buying something without being able to compare price is saving you money. Running around from shop to shop not knowing what is in the shop is not by any sane person's definition of a better facet of shopping.

The player is new. No one is "qq'ing". A newbie asked a question. It also clearly shows that the rest of the MMO world uses AH.

Search feature isn't part of tomorrow's update, sadly.

You know I've been noticing the Inn in every cities in the Guild halls. It even has its own icon on the map. I'm hoping that this is where the housing will be.

That, or that path in every city that says "You cannot proceed any further" as you approach it.

I miss having my avatar's personal space too :(
