a Delay is better then unleashing a potential bug that would crash the game over and over til they fixed it post patch

Yup. SE has already been on the receiving end of more than enough ******** for rushing things. Better to push the update when it's ready than to rush it and be left cleaning up a mess they saw coming.

Yeah, and if you're SE a (hopefully) small delay is better than messing up the entire patch.

SE has a LOT riding on this patch, and I hope they can deliver...eventually.

Bah, spend time with family, stuff yourself with turkey, watch the parade and the dog show (cheer for the greyhound!), take a tryptophan nap! Afterwards the update should be finished!

Here, to cheer people up, my greyhound wishes everyone a happy update!

Somehow i did see that coming anyways because this happens so much with all companies and online games it's not really a surprise anymore.

Well it may be a little annoying, but if they have to delay it a few days to get it right, then absolutely they should.

I haven't bought Cataclysm yet. I'm giving them this chance to show that this game can become what it should be. I really want them to succeed!

Jeckyll and Hyde in my mind... one wants to cry "bloody bastards, see I told you
they wouldn't make it and break their promises again!", the other one "congratulations,
SE, finally you decide to fine-tune your product until it's ready". Strangely, and
unexpectedly for myself, Jeckyll seems to win today... maybe I am seriously ill?

Even so with catalysm knowing blizzard people would be entertained for a couple of weeks people only are entertained for a couple of weeks if they don't do raid content, if they do raid content it's intertained for a month or two til you need to wait quarter/half a year for a new raid. :P So I'm sure by the time folks had run their heroics/raids things would be fixed really for those poeple going that route.

In now way am I fishing cataclysm, on one hand it's doing something different instead of making WoW2, on the other hand it's world of warcraft. I doesn't quite cater to my tastes, excelent if it caters to others tastes though. Differen't strokes, differen't folks or something like that. [Doesn't cater to my no lifer OCD gathering interests. :P]

Even so, it won't be delaye more than a day or two, if it's delayed a week I personally thing SE should just drop the whole 2 large updates withing short time of eachother mess and lump them together into one large update for mid december. I most certainly could live that long.

PS! anyone who takes offence to the no, sorry! |3 Shouldn't be writting posts on 2 hours sleep...heeh... But in no way am I trying to make fun of WoW, or make comparisons. Just kinda know blizzards track record it all with expansions since it's raid ecentric after all.

Edit: SE was probably hoping to have the update fixed by the 24th but they knew on the 17th it wouldn't be ready. SE should of checked with its programers and made sure it was ready before posting a date for it.

The date meant it's a [Follow-up] of that date announcement.

It is good to see how much forgiveness for Square Enix there is on this board. For the last few months, SE has repeated their wish to regain trust, and they must have done this to some degree since so many posters have rallied to the defense of this delay.

I realize that content updates can be tricky to time, but for lack of any improvements since the game launch, SE has a lot riding on this update. I doubt that I am alone in saying that my continued subscription to FFXIV depends heavily on the content of this update and already SE has managed to put the wrong foot forward.

Here's hoping that the update does not merge with the late December update.

At any rate, I'm hanging on the word "Delayed"... they didn't say "Postponed" so maybe thats a clue lol.

Yeah I leave to go out of town with my gf for Thanksgiving and would've had to wait until Sunday at the earliest to play anyway. Better late and polished than rushed and ppl say "This patch sucks im quitting!" Im still excited about the accuracy adjustment and lower sp requirements for 11-20 and 21-31. That will be enough to take me until next version update by joining all class guilds and starting all class quests.

Looks like NA messed up to me. Both should update at the same time, and EU + JP lodestones reflect this.

Good for them... Myself and probably everyone else(they just don't know it yet) would much much rather have a patch delayed then released and cause issues.

It's delicate process i'm very glad they are treating it that way. I have faith in them, although the content of their recent games has shifted from what i like, quality is one of the best still.

LOL...definite "oops" here. The Lodestone says the 26th and the game says the 25th.

I wonder which it is? I just now signed onto the game and it's currently stating:

Quote:
From Nov. 25, 2010 13:00 to 17:00 PST / Nov. 25, 2010 from 21:00 to Nov. 26, 2010 at 1:00 GMT, Final Fantasy XIV maintenance will be performed.

Based on the EU and JP pages, it looks like the NA page messed up and it should be the 25th and not the 26th for the new time.

JP:

I believe the main reason is that everyone knows its the right thing to do. People support them when they do the right thing, and are upset when they do the wrong thing. That is as it should be.

The "right thing" would be releasing the content at the promised time. Anything else is the "less wrong thing". I agree with the assessment of better late than broken; but seriously, it isn't like this was an urgent update. SE has been talking about it for weeks and I would assume that much of the development staff has been working on this since the game launched. This kind of inadequate planning will only result in further enmity from the user base whereas the update should have only brought positive results.

So when you mark up an appointment 2 months from now...you definetely know you will be able to attend that appointment 2 months ahead?
Seriously...there are things that make you "delay" appointments and this just happened. It's not like its their fault, they just made an appointment, and now they are telling they are gonna be late a few hours...no big deal.
Things can happen and when they happen they are gonna delay other things...thats just how things work...

EDIT: AND PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE can any of the News poster update the Front Page News?
It's not like every FFXIV player is checking the **** forums or the Lodestone...and since we already have a new date for the update it's just gnona cause unnecessary rage to some players when they only read its delayed, but not to when.
