from loadstone: The manner in which skill points are awarded through combat has been changed and now operates in the same manner as experience points.

so looks like were gonna get more or lees sp per kill depending on the mobs level, so does this mean faster kills = more sp? lookning like its gonna be ffxi-2 good thing IMO.

Yes thats what it means. It fixes the battle mechanics now. No longer do u choose to not use WS so that u can do more hits to monster for more SP. No longer are mages sticking to cures because nuking =monster die faster=no SP. The battle system will work the way it should be now, working as a team to efficiently kill the monster rather than competing against each other and abusing the SP gains.

i think its pretty funny how they just up and completely threw away their skillpoint system and just replaced it with another standard exp system. like didn't even try to keep any of that game mechanic in there. like, "we are so desperate, we're just going to go with what we know works because if we do anything else we're probably going to **** up the game even worse".

shame they had to figure out the hard way that different and new =/= better.

Well they also originally said FFXI would not use a leveling system.

If only they could just up and throw away the market ward system and replace it with an auction house then we'd really be in business.

Soon. Real soon I'm sure. Really surprised the search system didn't make it in this update per their latest interview with PC Gamer.

Nonetheless, this update should reduce the amount of explicative words spewing from my mouth 10 fold, so I for one am very excited.

With what we got today, I can wait another few weeks to a month for a search system and other fabulous goodies!

Whilst I agree with what you are saying, I do not feel that this skill point system was new.

In stead it was more akin with Ultima Online where skill points were totally random and you could go many fights without getting any increase.

This system totally took me back to my first mmo.

I will miss the old system as I honestly liked the randomness of it.

I did not like how it made for ineffective playing, just a shame it couldn;t be tweeked and perfected.

But oh well, I will be happy with this system and so will the community I think, which in honesty is the most important thing.

There really is an incentive for partying now

Don't think I've ever seen them make mention of a history, and certainly not for December. Last I saw the search was just going to place an icon by the retainer's name, and will almost assuredly search only the ward you're standing in. By no stretch of the definition or imagination, would I call that anything like "basically an AH".
