Yet again SE has not put a server to have their paying customers download the ****** patch.

If this is the kind of garbage we got to look forward to ... well its just sad.

I've never seen an MMO company that does not have at least ONE server to download the file from automatically. Local downloads? WTF?

It's a torrent client. Blizzard uses one for WoW. Turbine uses one for LOTRO. It's extremely common.

And it has always been this way for FFXIV, too. Why start ******** now?

port forwarding is your friend. if you have a router and no knowlege about it thats the problem.

the systems is fine only took me 15mins to download.
#5 Nov 25 2010 at 5:51 PM Rating: Good
I've never had any issues either. Usually get about 1 mb/sec, just make sure all your settings/ports are good to go.

All I can tell you is check to make sure you have your ports forwarded correctly. I started having the same issue until it dawned I had upgraded to a wireless network adapter from wired and because of this it didn't carry over my static IP settings from the previous adapter. I changed my IP settings back and now the port is being forwarded correctly again.

Downloaded file quiet fast. This isn't issue of downloader, it's an issue of your Net, or Your Hardware (router or pc) since this uses torrent as an main base of download.

I've been sittin at 56% for a bit now. First time I've had patcher issues with this game, actually.

Noticed something odd, actually, I closed the patcher and restarted the program, and update for me hangs at 56%.

I'm on my way home to update the game. I think in theory the torrent updater is a good idea... but in execution it definitely is not the solution for everyone.

Certain ISP's throttle .torrent traffic, routers need to be configured, etc. Its the reason why torrenting is not really used as a defacto patch delivery solution.

On the other hand, when it works, its works well and certainly better than the old 'bad for everyone' method.

That's not really odd. It's rarely a good idea to restart a torrent client thinking it's going to improve your speeds. If you leave it alone it will carry on in time...but ya gotta leave it alone.

I never had any problems with either LOTRO or WOW ..because they do have the patch available from download from their own server should the 'local' connections be low speed or not available.

Like I said, its garbage.

Yeah, usually I don't have a problem downloading torrent files of any kind, but this one got stuck at 56% for about 20 minutes or so. Disabled my firewall and now it's downloading at about 6 kb/s, but uploading at well over 100.

No, they just had a better client. The patch has to be available from SE's servers...they're the first seed. Their client has always just been sub-par.

Would you rather they fix the patcher or the game?

Personally, having learned how to work around their sub-par patcher, I'd rather they focus their attention on the game.

Using the official patcher, same thing. Downloads fully, then goes to install the patch, halfway through there is an update error 20524.

Question... Are you using a UI mod? If so that's likely your problem. I had one installed to make my chat box easier to read (It darkened it when not in use.) and was getting the installation failure. Once I switched to the original UI file it went through without a hitch.

EDIT: The file would be listed under your FFXIV installation folder, navigate there and then to "client", "sqwt", "common" and look for "default.win32.gtex". If you modified this file the installation is gonna fail, this is FFXIV's in-game UI file. There are mods for this on a certain site which changed the graphical interface a little.

The patchers works fine in my case,

The biggest problem is with peoples router configurations blocking ports or bad ISPs. I say if you want to fix the problem, hook the computer your updating directly to your modem, restarting both computer and modem in the process. Or do try alternative utorrent work around.

The patcher is like the same random goddess to me, as the crafting goddess...

I sometimes jumpt between 100kb/s and 0,0b/s in seconds...getting like 2% in 5seconds when its up at 100kb/s and then its comlpetely stopping for like 2min, until it goes up again for another 10seconds and so on...this is just dumb >.<

I opened every port people mention, I deactivated all "incoming data transfer" blocks that are available. I don't do anything else on the comp while loading the patch(except for checking the ZAM board once in a time)

This just seems so **** random to me...I hate PCs anyway...If I would have any knowledge of PCs except the "standard ****"... I prolly would be able to fix this, but I'm not...so I have to deal with this ****, although it just annoys me cause the Patcher is running for 3h now...the first 45% were downloaded in like 25min...everything thereafter is just a pain...

Yep, except for me it's stuck at 99.6% for the last half hour. Angry? ****** as F@#$ since all I get is LOCAL. It's been going for 4 hours, and annoyed I have to uTorrent path. This will teach me to put ANY faith in SE.

Downloading from scratch once again, but instead of 4 hours it'll take 20 minutes. SE go F*$@ yourself, as always :)

It's deinftely not a computer beginner friendly update method. I use utorrent to download the update since it's .torrent file. Downloads in about 2-3min at 1mb/s. As an advanced user I love it but newbies to computers are gonna get frustrated. They should work on optimizing their update client.

I never had any of such problems in updating any game I played...if it was WoW, FFXI, Aion or w/e...the downloadrate is just so ******* random on my IP...constantly jumping between high numbers and complete stop...
I'm sitting on 80% now...took me 25min to get almost to 50% since then I'm downloading for 3 ******* hours now for another 35%...this can't be real >.<

It's already 2:15AM here...and I ******* wanted to log in once before going to sleep...if this goes on I can log in at 5 AM...which is where I should wake up to get rdy for work...this is just ******* me off *RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE*

deleting this because it was a tad mean.

Check out how to enable port-forwarding to speed up your downloads. All I can say is I haven't talked with anyone else who has had issues downloading the patch yet. Took me literally 10 minutes. System works flawlessly imo and is a HUGE improvement from ffxi.

All my ports are forwarded which makes this even more ridiculous...I just restarted the Patcher like 5 times in a row...now it downloaded at around 200kb/s for a solid 2min getting me almost 18% progress...now im stuck at 99.6% again where the downloadrate started to fall on 0.0b/s again >.<

For all the people having issues downloading the patch, type port forwarding into your search engine with the router you have and look for how to set it. Don't download anything but the intructions are there on the net and on Loadstone intself. The game uses port 55296 to 55551 it listed on Loadstone.

I was having major MAJOR issues downlaoding this till I adjusted that. I'm far from computer savy but looking up the instructions helped a lot. So good luck to everyone.

Yes I have opened ports, used other torrent applications, etc etc etc etc etc. Some of our connections simply dont allow torrents, having no alternative is just bad,

Not only that but the Blizz and Turbine updaters DL critical files then allow you to login and play while it finishes the DL. The last Blizz patch I DL'd was over 4 gigs (the 4.0.1 patch I believe) and it didn't take 10 minutes.

Actually I can't remember for sure if the Turbine one works this way, but it seems like when I was playing DDO that was the case.

*edit*

So after writing the above, I remember my GF telling me WoW had another patch to DL last week. Started up the WoW launcher for the first time in a month or 2, there was about a 1 gig DL, within 15 seconds the game was playable. It DL the first 350 mb or so and then the rest in the background.

And Funkybudda can't even use the English language properly. Statistically speaking, WoW's updater has had much, much more problems than any other Pay to play updater out there.

.... yet WOW's works. Unlike the FF14 updater which simply doesn't. Big fail.

Second day, 12 hours on and the **** thing still isn't finished. Local connections 0 .

No, I am not going to open ports on my router... if any and every other MMO company out there doesn't have this issue neither should this one. I'm not compromising the security of my network for a game.

Ridiculously slow. Not to mention most ISP's in Canada throttle torrents.
