Port forward all UDP/TCP ports to 55296-55551.

Port 443 UDP should also be forwarded.

If you dont know how to port forward google it, its super easy.

FYI my download speed went from < 10kbs to > 750 with this.

Have fun

Very good tip indeed, didn't think about that one.
Went to bed yesterday and 7 hours later it still wasn't at half the download. After forwarding these ports it was a matter of minutes to download the rest of the updates.

Now if SE wasn't supid enough to use torrents for upgrades this wouldn't be an issue. I suppose for all those who are playing on a dial-up connection it would be benificial. um... can you even play FFXIV on dial-up? Whoever invented torrents should be severely flogged.

Wish I'd seen this post 5 hours ago when I started the download.

Okay i was forwarded to this page, and have read some things about doing this, but to be honest, i have no idea how to do whatever the heck I am supposed to do. If someone could give me some step by step instructions it would be greatly appreciated. Just fyi, I am in a dorm, so I do not have a router actually in my room or anything

What's funny about this is that if you've been an FFXI user for a long time you'll know how common a plea it was that SE distribute patches via torrents. wish granted.

[subtle hint]Google "Your source for FFXI and FFXIV downloads."[/subtle hint] Had to reinstall yesterday (new hard drive) took 10 mins to install the actual game, 3 minutes to patch!

If you have more than one computer in your home network that have the game, do not forward the ports.

one pc can't update because the ports are forwarded to the other.

Interesting, I didn't know that! I've thought that the computers could "share" since it was on the same network.

Thanks for the info :D
