Does Anyone Know If And When....Follow

The issue where the game crashes and cannot detect the directx device will be fixed? Further more does anyone know if SE plans to change the game so that when it does crash (or you just plain old dc) during an active leve when you come back you can pick up where you left off? As a casual player the latter issue is more of a concern. Sometimes all I have time for is to run a few leves then have to call it a night, but due to crashes during active leves (which always seems to be when it happens -_-;;;) I basically am logging in just to activate leves over and over without doing anything really productive. It's becoming more frustrating for me than that horrid menu lag was, so if anyone can point me to a link or whatever or know if they even announced they were going to change/fix yet it would be appreciated.

Also on a side note, since the update it appears the game has been crashing for me a lot more. For instance, in the last 2 hours I've had to re-load the game 6 times now and my final 3 leves I had to do before reset were lost as a result. Is this happening to anyone else?

I've been having real problems staying connected, getting kicked out and unable to log in for what seems like forever due to the dreaded 3102 lobby error. I haven't run any leves if that piece of information is at all useful, I just get booted, sometimes in less than a minute after actually getting online.

Frustration doesn't really cover it, but I'm actually more suspicious of my provider than I am of the game. Maybe it's both?

I haven't been disconnected in a while now. It is very possible that your ISP has something to do with it. It may also be router/internet settings. One thing, make sure you arent running anything else while playing. This includes anti virus. It could very well be causing your problems.

It's hard to say really. Personally..I've probably been disconnected about 20 times today..Which sadly..is an accurate number. I'm pretty sure it's an isp/network issue though..Seeings how somedays I can stay connected all day..and other days..like today..I d/c every 5 minutes..and lose out out 2000ARC guild marks..:-(. Not to mention that means waiting 5-10 minutes before you can log back in each time. Nobody in my LS is having these issues..So I think it's just my isp. -.-

I have to agree though..I really wish they'd fix the leve issue where it auto-fails if you d/c..They should at least keep it active regardless for the duration of the leve timer. Because you don't get that back for another 36 hours. Very irritating indeed.

Agreed. Being dc'd constantly is annoying but I sure could live with it if it didn't eat my leves once I activate them. This problem is the only real big thing that has me discontented about playing right now. If they were to fix losing leves on dc I would be happy. I guess we just have to wait and find out if they plan on fixing. :(

Get your latest drivers. Thats the fix. for nvidia, they just releases 260.99, that will fix it. Also, set it for the game, the last 2 nvidia drivers come with this option to automatically put the setting for the game, is under 3d settings in the nvidia control panel. Also try running the game as administrador.

I've had this crashes everytime a new driver is released (not only on ffxiv), so getting the new driver and doing a clean install solves the problem. It's like the machine is telling me there is a new driver by crashing my software,m instead of a "there is a new version of your river" window.

Remember, before start throwing the "is SE fault" ball, check your system is up to date and correctly configured. Most of the times its errors in configuration in your side, like the isp, modem, or old drivers.

I was pretty sure I had the up to date drivers, however I was wrong. After downloading and installing though the problem still persists.

Are you still getting crashes from the "can't detect directx device", or is now only the disconnections?

While I'm not having the problems everyone else ITT are having, I can confirm that having the latest drivers will still give you a directx error. It happens maybe once a week for me, but it does still happen. I will R0 and dc maybe 3-5 times a week though. most of the time its a problem on my end as I have my laptop sitting on the desk I have my PC at so I can tell when my internet is down.

Not to be a ****, but it sounds like your problems will be fixed when you fix them. They're for the most part not on Se's end for you getting Dc'd otherwise everyone would have them. I don't. I don't know pretty much anyone who does atm. You need to update directx update drivers. Check your game crash errors etc. Find out why you are getting the boot and fix it.

SE says that it is not their fault for the DirectX drivers, but the company that programs the drivers. Or so they said in an email. to someone in my old LS.

As for the DC, I have not DC since I updated my .Netframe works to the latest, which was back in OB. Come to think of it, I DC once since the release, but that was when my internet went out.

Ok after toying with some settings last night I thought I had fixed the problem as I did not crash once last night. However today when I woke up and got on sure enough I started crashing again. So yes I'm still crashing :(

I wouldn't have accused SE of the directx crashes if I was aware it wasn't a universal thing. A friend of mine who I play the game with also has these issues so I assumed it was a game problem no matter what I was doing to try and fix. However my big beef with them is the losing leves if you d/c or crash once activated. If that were changed i would probably just look past the game crashing all together and just get over it and reboot the game as many times as needed. I have all the up to date drivers, I can't figure out why it keeps crashing though.

Yeah, I got the directX error thing EVERYTIME I try to start WOW while FFXIV is running.

It must be SE's fault because I NEVER get this error if I start FFXIV while running WOW in the background.

I've been getting the directx error a lot more frequently since the patch. I believe it has to do with the partitioning of servers to reduce server lag as I always error at these points (i.e. teleporting, zoning @ region, moving into a city, etc.)

I assume that since there's many more points of server exchange now that there's more chances for your directx to error.

I'm not sure if that helps anyone pinpoint the error, but it is my observation.

Things actually got more stable for me once the game was updted.

Perhaps try running dxdiag? If you need more guidance let me know.

It may not tell us much, but press the windows key + R, which will open the Run dialog. Type dxdiag and click run. It should open a window and start the test. Once its done, there should be various tabs to click on and you should be able to see if there are any errors. It may not find any problems but its worth a shot.

I don't know if it helps your situation at all, but when i first started playing I was being kicked out of the game constantly and it would take about 10 attempts to log in. I found out this was due to my network card, as soon as i switched to ethernet (LAN) cable it was perfect. I havent been kicked once.
BUT.. if it's all about the directX with yours? im not sure. worth a try>?
