Diamond in the Rough - leveFollow

#1 Nov 27 2010 at 7:30 AM Rating: Good
This is a faction leve R40 near Camp Nine Ivies. I took it the other day even though I'm only R31 because I thought I could get some high levels from my linkshell to help me out. A couple of people volunteered so I took the leve. The reason I took this particular one was because the gil reward was 60k and it dropped a Vintage Haubergon - very nice piece of kit (R50).

The leve has you following a Qirin type mob who appears at the start of the leve. The problem is that if he sees you at all he disappears and starts back right at the beginning. This leve was so frustrating and only had a 20 minute timer. The Qirin often turns around unexpectedly and poof gone again. After about 10 minutes of trying I finally got him to walk further than the first clearing and then he starts to run! If you do not keep up with him it says you lost your target and he starts all the way back at the beginning again. One of the most frustrating moments in the game so far lol. Anyway I didnt make it and the timer eventually ran out. Has anyone out there taken this and beat it yet? I checked online and even though the Leve is described there are no walkthroughs or helpful tips.

Reminds me of this actually, "Seagull Grounded" Assault mission. Except you seemingly can't catch him and get him to go back, which makes sense seeing as he's not your prisoner. Anyways, sorry to hear it was wasted faction credits for you, hopefully people discover an effective strategy before you try again. 20 minute time limit on a complicated leve is kind of annoying!

Well I wanted to update this on the forum as I have now completed it:

I was very surprised that I was able to restart this faction leve after I had failed it once. It seems that if you wait till the timer reset on leves you get to do this again if you have failed.

Tactics:

Actually this is quite a simple leve and doesnt involve any fighting potentially. Once you have spoken to the quest giver you run to a close location and wait for the Qirin to pop. As long as he is facing away from you he will start to walk away. Keep him within the radar and so you can see him but don't get too close. After a short time he will stop, quickly turn and then start walking back. If he sees you he will disappear and return back to the original spot where you first started. You need to run back quickly here if possible because if he is facing you when you try and run past him to get behind him he will disappear again losing you more time. After he has turned for the first time he will turn and start walking again only to start running after a few seconds. This is where you need to run to keep up. If you dont he will disappear and you will be back to the start again. He will again (and this was the hardest past I feel) turn and run back to you and because he is running this time if you dont spot him he will quickly see you. You have to be ready for this and immediately run back if you see him doing this. However, after a while he will turn and run away again so make sure you spot this and quickly run after him again otherwise he will be out of range and you will have to reset again. After running after him again for a short time he will stop and look at the ground and disappear. Go over to where he was and a small node will appear (similar to the necrolopogos ones). examine this and claim Shiva's Tear! Thats it, just run back to quest giver and you will get your rewards.

Hope this helps anyone thats attenpting this quest.

Thanks for the guide! The Haubergeon looks nice. Wish my Arc could wear it optimally.

This part is confusing. >.>
