I just failed my 5th fishing levels since maintenance due to no bites and at the Gridania fighting fish leve I caught crayfish then no bites. I'll just spearfish till I know what changes was made.

The largest thing I noticed was fishing off the shore of Limsa, I have a much harder time getting Malm Kelp than before.

Sorry I'm not of more help ^^

The only reason youll get no bites after the patch is if youre using the wrong type of bait.

When using freshwater bait in freshwater youll get tons of bites. If you use freshwater bait in the ocean youll get no bites all day long.

Only other reasons you might not get a bite is if you have gathering fatigue (exactly same as before the patch) or if youre using way too low level bait for where youre fishing (ie crow flys @ grade 5) but again thats exactly the same as before the patch.

So yes the ONLY change Ive seen since patch is if you use the wrong bait youll get nothing all day long where as previous to patch youd get tons of kelp.

I believe changes has been made that fish is now more bait specific and depth specific

yes, it means that you can't use no brainer moth pupa and lugworm for most fish anymore,

and you can't stick with whatever depth mark anymore either.

It kinda sucks, 'cos fishing was something I could relax with, but now it's more troublesome...

So, to attempt in trying to answer your question.

I think you would need to find some higher level fresh water baits for gridania fighting fish, and then try different depth level to see if you read gridania fighting fish or something to that effect.

I am not sure if it works, but i hope it would.

Thanks, grade 2 fishing spots bait is grade 8 maybe its the fresh water sea water thing.Fishing was just something fun to kill time now it's a chore It's not even worth figuring out since my cooking is going to end at lev 10.At least i'll have 4 to 8 more inventory space when i drop fishing gear.

You needed 2 different types of bait to catch anything useful before the patch anyway. All you gotta do is go out and get a stack of crow flys (theyre really cheap) or even chocobo flys from the fishing guild and itll last you almost forever @ freshwater spots (seriously 99 crow flys will cost you 30-50k depending on the server and last you well over 300 hours of fishing)

Ocean bait/lures is a little more of a pain since I havent seen a crafting equivalent of crowflys (ie something dirt cheap/easy to make) but thats when you just end up buying lug worms or have someone make you ocean lures (theres tons of spoon lures @ the fieldcraft ward but theyre a little more expensive)

Fishing is really the easiest gathering job in the game I wouldnt let it discourage you its not bad at all

And ill also throw this out there that Crow Flys work perfectly fine in grade 3, and pretty good @ grade 4. Once you get to grade 5 they still work just not very well (ie youll get a bite maybe 2 out of 7 times with them)

It's no big deal I just wanted to know if something changed I'm more upset with money piling up and spending hours upon house in market wards and not buying anything.Fishing was getting nibbles ,guessing depths and tiring the fishing out.I stuck it out watching 30min countdown 5 times that's enough to call it quits on fishing.

I had the same problem in Gridania on the fighting fish leve. I was using lugworms prior to the patch with no prob finishing in one attempt. After the patch, same technique, barely got a bite..
