Well, the path has been decent ... but not enough. We know the game needs content, a better leveling curve and a million other fixes ... but what's the one thing that will really stick with folks and make them more involved ... give staying power ....

Give up?

More classes!

How many of you want to see great katanas and great swords?

How many want to see muskets or be able to duel wield?

Seriously ... these would be great additions ... as long as they add auto attacks.

Glads ...

You know let me stop .. something unique. Level a gladiator and Conj to 50 each and unlock paladin.

make the stats have REAL value .. and have each class specialize and balance the values of these stats accordingly ... and communicate this to us.

I would love to learn tanking on a glad, magic on a conj and unlock a way to level a paladin.

leave more abilities specific to a class (like lancer skills) so there is more uniqueness to each class.

Glads use swords .. please get rid of daggers lol.

Level LNC and w/e get a Dragoon (with pet)

Unlock muskets level that and archer unlock a ranger.

and so forth and so on.

Or just simply add those weapons for us ... this game has potential but think long term and outside the box a bit please.

If you have to shut FF14 down and do an overhaul do so, and do a re-release or something.

I can say with certainty by the time the clunk is fixed and PS3 launches (which won't add all these players servers are anticipating imo) too many other games will be out or near completion.

Servers are going to fall significantly come dec 7th (cata release)

The inherent population of English players are unfriendly and ego centric (there are some nice helpful folks but lets just be honest here)

You have Tera, KOTOR and a few other titles on the horizon ... people have options and most only have the time to commit to one game they like. In other words you SE have a very short window to win people over .... so get to it!

I think the game will ultimately fail because it is too generic and even with quests NM's whatnot ... it really isn't fun for most ... for some it might be ... for most it's not. For myself certain aspects are ok, I find myself logging in to ill stuff ... but I know I will be playing cata and trying Tera ect ... if one of those hook me im gone (easily) from ff14 forever.

This game is very easy to put down, and it wouldn't be if I had a great katana or great sword ... I would indeed tough it out!!!!

Bash this or whatnot .. a change like that however will win a ton of people over, including myself!

also .... with populations falling ... the social aspect is becoming more an issue ... seems 1 out of every 4 or 5 players is a bot / RMT ... I dunno.

I mean server mergers could fix this .. but there is still no sense of community ... good or bad :-(

These are great ideas, but I think it would be better if they fixed the problems they have now before they add new things that bring in more issues. The main thing FFXIV needs is more content.

Personally, I think the new sp system is a big improvement. I know there are still complaints about it, but we can definitely work with it. Even though we may get less sp per a mob than we used to, overall, its better for partying since everyone will get sp every mob instead of getting a random number. The old sp system didn't work for everybody in the party. Some would get great sp gains while others would get basically 0. Then when the one getting 0 asked to find a different mob, they'd get berated by those getting great sp gains. The little bit we all get now adds up over time.

Overall, I think the new patch was a great success and I'm looking forward to the patch next month that will add new content. New classes would be nice, but those can wait for an expansion. Personally, I'd rather have access to Ishguard before having more available classes. I have plenty to do with the 3 I use as it is. I don't need anymore yet...... Also, keep in mind FFXI was out in Japan for a year before it made it elsewhere. The first expansion is what added all the advanced classes like paladin or ninja.

There are plenty of classes in the game; if anything, there might almost be too many classes for an MMORPG that just started. Regardless, there are plenty of other things to address before adding more classes.

Right now we're basically driving a car with flooky heating/AC, underinflated tires, radio reception that goes in and out... it works, but it's a little clunky.

Throwing in some more cup holders is not the most prudent thing to focus on, I don't think.

Mikhalia: and FWIW, my posts are 95% helpful, informative, or funny.
Mikhalia: only 5% or less of my posts are utter crap.

lol I promise you new classes that require gladiator and conjurer @ r50 wont help this game (esp with this new sp system)

Server mergers HAS to be a top priority atm. I know I see more bots than I do actually players in this game. If it wasnt for having an awesome linkshell theres no chance id have an account still.

After that they gotta add ANYTHING to do as groups (you know once there are actually people to group with after a merger). Especially this last patch which took away all purpose to group (and at the worst time imaginable, killing groups 1 week before Cataclysm not smart).

Personally something like giving an SP reward for leves that coincides with the amount of stars for it I think would be an awesome idea (gives players an alternativee way to level meet players and do something other than a mindless grind).

Id also like to see organized group content. I know FF isnt big on dungeons but something where group members are incentived to actually fill define set roles.

Finally more classes down the road would be awesome, but you dont worry about getting a new toy to play with while your house is on fire.

And yeah SE should really hire a couple of college interns to go around and ban botters. Its really not hard to do at all. **** you could hire one single person and they can probably single handedly fix botting on a server in 1 day.
#12what1is2up3dog, Posted: Nov 28 2010 at 2:31 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) There will be more content in the new expansion! So if you want FFXIV to be any good you gotta get the expansion which is only $50 dollars!

Chocobos, Airships, and Boats! Oh my! Chocobos, Airships, and Boats! Oh my! Chocobos, Airships, and Boats! Oh my!

*starts skipping down a grey cobblestone lane with a Miqo'te on one arm, a Hyur wearing a staw hat and rope belt on the other* "We're off to see the Sage, the wonderful Sage Sundi of Final Fantasy XIV!" (Sorry, a certain land patented a certain brick road of the yellow variety.)

On topic, I believe Dual Wield with come in time, swords and the like DO appear in the sub hand section when selecting something. So I do believe we'll get it eventually. And there will be more classes, but expect them in expansions. Hopefully we'll have Musketeers and Arcanists by the release of the PS3 version. They were probably scrapped due to time restraints. Last I call while there aren't any weapons there, there ARE categories for Arcanist weapons in the dat files.

EDIT: By the way, I don't quite think FFXIV is dying yet. It's not doing too great still at this point but I do not see it dying out in the slightest. So many people keep comparing it to WoW as if that game's the godsend upon mankind. Truth be FFXIV can never compete with it which is probably also why they even stated that they weren't trying to compete. WoW's got a charm to it and is a good game, but we gotta stop the comparisons here... As for Server merges, don't count on it yet. If, if things start going downhill after the next two patches, then we may see it. SP in parties has gotten pretty bad, no doubts about that. However I've also noticed that we definitely need to start sorting out the correct setups and select targets stronger than blues, and ones that aren't so powerful in defense and HP.

Before the update, the priority was to find targets that could stay alive long enough to get good SP off per attack. In these setups you didn't really need a specific type of job, it was just go in and start bashing stuff with whoever you had on hand. After 30 I can agree it probably is worse for grouping, I'm thinking SE may have not completely thought this one out. With luck they're already working on a mini-patch to alleviate this that they'll release well before the December update rolls around. Waiting that long may just drive more players away. Some people I know won't even touch their high levels anymore until its fixed...

most if us arent (that are leaving) arent having fun and hate the fact there are no things like katanas or sword (2 handed) or classes that have that epic feel ...

ff11 made it to expansions .. this game might not .. which is why i say the window is short to keep the player base it does have.

New classes will come... but how can you complain in your first post that they aren't "thinking outside the box" and then request Ninjas and Paladins? How "outside the box" are those two classes?!? Then you say "Dragoon (with pet)"... gee, I coulda SWORN I recall another MMO that had that exact thing....

Oh, right... it was FFXI. Which is probably ALSO where you remember "autoattack" from.

That is not "outside the box" thinking. That is "jump back in the old box" thinking.

As far as the "epicness" of any class: that's a matter of personal preference. Clearly you have your favorites chosen, and that's fine, but I know a lot of people looking forward to something different than what they've seen before. This game has a LOT of new things... and that's made some people uncomfortable. This doesn't play like everyother MMO precisely BECAUSE the developers thought "outside the box". Yes, not everything in place is perfect, or near perfect... and SE is paying a hefty toll for that and trying to make amends. But do you REALLY just want to play an FFXI clone?

I don't, and I can't believe that "most" people do (as you seem to be claiming, and I seriously wonder how many people you polled to come to such a conclusion: a scientific random sampling... or yourself and 3 of your like-minded friends).

You don't date a new girl and ask her to be more like your old girlfriend (free real world advice here, take it for what it's worth)... or your mom, that's a bad one too (still free!). Give this girl a chance to be different and possibly BETTER than your old girlfriend (and your mom), someday she may even turn out to be "The One".

And... just to point out... Gladiators (the real ones) were not really big on heavy swords (daggers may be a bit inappropriate a term as well, yet something like a gladius falls in the "shortsword and smaller" category). They were usually fighting light-to-nothing armored opponents and despite how uber you might think a greatsword is, they are a biznitch-and-a-half to weild (in anything resembling a controlled manner) and impossible to weild quickly, which is fine when you are looking to crash it into the heavy armor of an opponent moving as slowly as you are, but sucktacular against a more nimble foe. Also, your gladiator's armory would generally include a great many weapons, short spears, tridents, nets, weighted ropes, etc. So to say, "Gladiators use swords" is fairly inaccurate.

Yup. And quality content at that. Adding new classes and weapons wouldn't do it for me. Same thing with adding better traveling options. I would still be logging in to do the same leves & grind with the occasional story or class quest. Love the cutscenes, hate the rest of it. That's where they're losing me. The streamlined, easy-mode content leaves me feeling empty with zero sense of accomplishment.

If I had to use one word, I'd say the game needs life.(Which is pretty much content & depth. The feeling that I'm in a vast world of Final Fantasy)

Sorry but after everyone slated the functions now a few people are now slating, what the content? No where does it say for XIV that it would have a lot of content. Its a MMO which means come back in 18 months and quit complaining. Some of you people really never are happy.

the first week of its release it had a *long list* of issues and 90% of them were just fixed. Another 5% are the next update which includes more content.

Seriously are you guys just wanting to complain, moan and cry all day?

Giving your opinion on the game and what you feel the game needs isn't complaining, moaning & crying all day. It's a valid discussion.(Which is what I was doing...can't say that for everyone else though...)

I think it's easy to criticise a game like this when you have FFXI as it's predecessor... But people also forget that at release, ACTUAL release. FFXI was JUST as bad. This game was released prematurely, yes, but SE have also proved that they have the ability and the willpower to rectify it. (Which IMO they did with 3 free months and this last and the upcoming patch).

Chill.. Enjoy the game for what it is.. Take the time to get ahead and when the new content comes in, you're ready for it!

Or alternatively.. Quit the game and ease up on hating it.. There's countless other MMO's right now that people can play.. None will be as good as this game will in a year, though. Fact.
