Repairing saves materials?Follow

Did they mention repairing saving materials in the patch notes somewhere, or has it always been in the game? I didn't find any indication of it when I looked, but maybe I'm blind...

I repaired someone's Bone Hora to get rid of a Bone Chip +1 for space, and instead I see the lines of:

You manage to save your repair materials.
You obtain 600 gil.
You repair the pair of bone hora.
You gain 22 goldsmithing skill points.

I've never heard of this before. Perhaps your skill is was way higher than was required to repair the item and you got to keep your repair materials. Sounds like a good feature to me if it really does work like that.

So the game trolled you, eh?

Maybe it was because it's a +1 item you used to repair it with?

Both could be culprits. Goldsmithing is only at 10 but since it's the R6 weapon I'm technically 9 ranks above the minimum needed. And yes, the game trolled me bad. I was clearing space to buy something off of someone else's bazaar. ><

Repair equivalent of an HQ?

I've been using +1 buffalo leather spetches to repair my belts but they're always consumed.

I have repaired my hempen bandanna +3 without losing a NQ marbled eye yesterday.

I have repaired countless time my bone rings +3 and +2s with Bone chips +2/+3 before losing them before the patch. (I would lose them after 3-4 repairs, approx.)

The chat line is new, though. (You also get a chatline when touch up produces a +1 that wasn't there before)

My Goldsmith was 26 for the bandanna, and around 20 for the bone ring's first "incidents".

I remember when I was playing beta, I read the beta guide about crafting and IIRC it did mention that sometimes HQ materials would get recycled. Since I ever saw it happen i just figured they decided to remove that feature.

You might just have finally had this feature activate for you. Maybe it's just on repairs, and since people don't use HQ mats for repair, may explain why it's never been reported til now.

I've actually saved quite a few materials repairing, if it helps, I was actually using Bone chips +3 to repair my rings. I'll even go as far to as to call it an Hq Repair :)

This sounds like what happened then. It's only the second time I've used HQ material to repair, so 1 out of 2 sure isn't bad so far! (The other time was with a +1 fent that dropped from a Bogy.)

I've repaired gear pre-patch without losing materials, but I didn't get a message for it. I just noticed I had one too many pieces of material left when I went to go repair something else. At least I now know I wasn't losing my mind or seeing things.

I've had the same, had some + versions of hempen fent and still managed to keep them up to about 3 repair attempts. It's not always, sometimes it won't work but at times it will. They just didn't have any message stating it until now.

Whoops, I missed that bolded part the first time. Sounds like all that matters is if the item or the repair material is HQ. Unless someone has had a NQ item repaired with NQ repair item and still salvaged the material back?

Edit: Or unless some items always count as a HQ item...

Just repaired a Bronze Dagger (NQ) with a Bronze Nugget and "You manage to save your repair materials" appeared. So it applies to all grades of weapons and materials!

I've never managed to get +1 repair mats. But I've saved my mats from various leather repairs with normal spetches on my fiancees gear quite a few times, always a welcome supriseSmiley: smile

I have seen this happen somewhere between 6-10 times. It happened atleast twice that I had seen pre-november patch. It's a nice little perk on a repair when you manage to save the material but it has been in there since the begining as far as I can tell..

ya this has always been in place, first time I noticed it happening was when someone gave me some mats the second day to repair the item, and I still had it. NQ gear NQ mats. just luck and skill I guess, Higher rank to item more likely this happens I would reckon
