The bonuses initially offered to players venturing simultaneous throughout Vana'diel in Final Fantasy XI and Eorzea in Final Fantasy XIV have gotten their own extension. Originally set to end in January, these perks will now extend until March 2011.

1) Discounted FFXI fees - from $12.95 a month to $7.00 a month

2) Hermes' Shoes - A unique item that boosts movement speed

You mean the discount isn't permanent if you play both? Wow they just want to have their cake and eat it to...

As for the shoes...I wonder how much money they swindled out of people the first month from FFXI re-activations by not mentioning they aren't actually a constant effect.

I think the deadline is for people to do both simultaneously and get the discount, but those who sign up for it before the deadline have it for however long both games last.

they kinda had to do that for billing purposes. Gives people who were on the late free time a chance to actually set both up and get billed in order to get the bonus.

This is news to me too. I thought that the discount was permanent. What a rip....

And count me too as one of the people that was swindled by the Hermes Shoes promise. All advertising on the shoes mentioned nothing about it being a limited duration. I probably would have quit FFXI immediately or even months before FFXIV came out if I knew all I was getting was a few minutes a day. Of course SE knows that which is why they kept that information to themselves.

I've been playing XI and XIV since the official release of XIV, and SE has still be charging me the full amount for XI. Someone told me that it was because they've been giving so many free months for XIV... but that doesn't seem right to me.

you only get the discount when your actually billed for FFXIV, so since we've been playing for free from day one. they haven't given anyone the discount

I expected the shoes to be a limited duration, but the fact that they basically hide it from you is completely annoying. How about listing the effects on the fricking item rather than making me guess?

That is completely backhanded and dishonest. It's giving with one hand and taking with the other. People reactivated FFXI with the specific understanding that they'd be getting a discount independent of what they were paying or not paying for FFXIV. We're getting a freebie on FFXIV because it's terrible right now-- that doesn't give them the right to cancel the discount for FFXI. It's not my fault they completely botched the FFXIV release.

I never thought the shoes would have their effect on all the time. And I'm glad that they don't cause if they did I bet the speed wouldn't be as high. I thought they would be similar to the sprint shoes in XI.

15 minutes of quickened ability every 24 hours seems like a good enough bonus to me.

Why in the world would people that deactivated their ffxi accounts reactivate them for $5 cheaper a month when they were paying nothing for it a month. Were people saying, "I quit ffxi but since it is only $7 a month now instead of $12 I'll come back"? Unless they were doing it for the shoes is the only reason I can think of.

Why do they post this when they'll keep charging full price as long FF14 is free.I'm not falling for this another month and I'll use what little anger i have to cancel FF11 before the billing cycle ends.Smiley: disappointed...I see people think SE will give a future discount for past play, I don't think SE will "give" me anything even Crysta I've read these forums of people dealing with SE it never ends well for the playerbase.

I've always been under the impression that you had to actually be paying for both to get the discount, and while I don't care enough to go dig it up, I'm pretty sure it's written in the fine print.

Add to that the fact that, considering FFXIV costs nothing right now, you're still paying less then you would for both even with the discount.

Honestly I don't see how FFXI and FFXIV is a ripoff at $12/month for both games, but totally awesome at $22/month for both games. I understand standing up for "principle" or whatever, but it sounds like you're complaining about getting a better deal.

My question is this:

Does this mean that the discount itself will end in March - or the eligibility to obtain the discount will?

They were never very clear on what "ends in January 2011" meant to begin with - so before we get up in arms...

Elmer can you please clarify?

I am 99.99999% certain that eligibility ends in march, not the discount itself. Unless SE plans on removing hermes' shoes from the game in march along with discounts, which strikes me as extremely odd, and a great way to kill off FFXIV in a couple days.

Honestly, do people really think that they'd remove the discount when the offer ends? That's like buying a computer for 500 bucks less on black friday, then when the sale ends the next day, you gotta go back and pay that $500 back, because the sale has ended.

I thought it was pretty obvious the discount is permanent so long as you continue to pay for both, it's just the time to apply for the discount is limited.

Yeah it's a shame we aren't being charged for XIV for November & December. That way, we can be charged 12.99 + 7 rather than 0 + 12.95; the latter being somehow worse. Smiley: confused

I can't say what the JP site says, but both the French and English seem pretty clear in implying that the $7.00 XI offer is only good until March, after which it will expire and full price will be charged for both games. Of course, this wouldn't be the first time a mistranslation has occurred.

What "ends in Jan" means is this discount that's now been extended to March. Likely just due to them extending the free trial.

SE not telling the truth about about billing practices? No! You can't be serious. Oh wait.
