Choose the answer that most applies to you. If you chose any of the "I would/am/will play WoW" options, please indicate whether the release of Cataclysm had an impact on your decision, or whether you would have played/would be playing WoW regardless.

My apologies for ******** up FFXIV with this thread; I was just hoping to lay to rest the notion that Cataclysm is going to kill FFXIV based on what I anticipate the results to be. I could be way off base though.

If I quit FFXIV (which I probably won't), I will play WoW because I used to play WoW and have a hankering for MMORPG lately. Cata encourages me to unfreeze my WoW account because I already saw most of the WoTLK content. If there wasn't a new expo, I wouldn't pick WoW up again.

I'm already playing WOW. I quit before this recent update and frankly just don't see a reason to come back. The UI being improved is fantastic but there is still no reason for me to actually use the UI except for grinding THE GAME. {thanks for the offer but I'll have to pass}

The zones in WOW have been revamped and new quests have been added. Its amazing how easily blizz can do something like this and people are raving about the new quests on the forums. If quests aren't your thing random dungeon finder is a god send compared to FFXIV's party system. I'm no longer feeling loyal to SE at this point after seeing someone else's craftsmanship.

Thanks for the poll Mikh, I think it was a good idea.

I went with:

"I'm probably staying with FFXIV. If I quit, I'll play WoW instead"

I'm willing to cut SE some slack, they got my trust over the years, and while clumsy I still believe FFXIV could become a great game, the base is solid, hence it couldn't be too hard to make a decent game out of it.

If it simply fails, I will pick WOW instead and see once and for all what they have to be the #1, let me just clarify that I haven't play WOW or see anything else besides a couple of youtube videos.

Where cataclysm had an impact on my decision is rather subtle, I don't think the content an expansion could bring determinate anything for me at this point, since I haven't even tried the game, although all the publicity and the hype people is building around it indeed cached my attention, besides it's always encouraging to know that the game keeps growing.

My true wish is for FFXIV to succeed but if that's not the case, I will try the alternative.

I'm playing both at the same time but investing 90% of my time into FFXIV.

WoW is way past cool if you're a casual player and newer to the MMO scene.

If you want something with an old school feel and community you're better off in FFXIV I think.

SE needs to expand the game content and change many many things about the SP system and relationship between DoW/DoM versus Crafting/Gathering classes for me to stay.

I will decide after next month. If I leave I will move onto another MMORPG besides WoW, but have to wait for their releases.

If the game fails, I won't play it.

If it ever becomes good- whether it be 3 months or 2 years- thats when I will play it. I don't need to make any ultimatums, since there is really no other MMO I'm interested about.
We really want to compete against World of Warcraft and for example the new Star Wars MMO.

I plan on sticking around, I'm a long time Final Fantasy fan so I'm willing to give the game its chance to thrive. If I were to quit I may go back to FF XI or just play random games till Diablo III comes out as that is the only other game I'm looking forward to atm (I can play NHL 2k11 non stop on my wii and won't ever get tired of that).

Never having been a huge MMO fan, Square has hit it for me on this game (minus of course the issues that need to be resolved). I like being able to play casually at my pace, yet still interact with people on a pure social level.

I played WoW, and after the first 30 days I quit, I didn't care for the gameplay. I played FFXI for years, before I had a family and career, and loved it. However I just don't have that much time to invest in a game.

The casual play I get out of the DoL classes make this game ideal for me, and unless Square messes up big time going forward I'll continue to play. When I'm done with this game, that's it for me and MMO land.

WoW recent commercials suck so the game launch is going to be good. It's sad to think how pumped the FF14 trailer made me think just picking the leaves were.Someone got paid big time for that trailer. I could've gone with either "Not gonna play WoW" or "Won't be playing an mmo again ever." For certain it won't be WoW so I went with that. I made use of gamestop's recent sale on Fallout: NV and been playing that to mix things up a bit. That's giving me a much needed break from XIV once in a while because I started to get burnt out. Also replaced my previous chair with one that reclines which has done wonders to my overall gaming moodSmiley: grin So improved comfortability & slow motion decapitations = me willing to show SE 'some' patience....

I picked the option of I'm in this for the long haul unless SE screws this up i'll play something other than WoW. My WoW days are done, I didn't like the changes they made with WotLK and i'm just not interested in the slightest in getting back into it again with cata. If FFXIV doesn't work out I would most likely give EQ2 a try because its free and looks to be a good MMO that my co-worker and some of my ex guild mates from WoW would probably play.

There are two things I really love about poll threads.

One is that polls are a good aggregate of opinion and are easy to view at a glance compared to a 10 page thread that nearly anyone who hasn't followed the thread from the start isn't going to read. It's easy to glance at a poll and it's easy to refer to it for reference in future polls or future threads related to the topic at hand where someone can say "Actually, you're wrong because {link to poll thread} shows that most people like that feature." or whatever point the poll is making

The other is that I know a lot of people are lurkers on Zam who may or may not have an account, and may not post much if at all, but they do have an opinion and a poll is a quick way to get opinions that doesn't require a dissertation from the people that don't want to elaborate. This thread has 20 posts and 100 votes. That's 80 more opinions that people didn't feel worth posting, but wanted to express.

With my current work and school schedule, will stay with ffxiv for as long as it runs... why you ask?

Tired of FFxi: abyssea and the lv cap increase kind of ruined it, all endgame content is a joke with higher lv caps

Played WoW and was enjoying it until Wotlk came out..... that basically killed WoW for me. Hated the lock out raid timers, people whining about others ninja the gear and such. And the barren chat.... well for those who play it or played it.. enough said about barren

I want to like FFXIV, but I can't. Not being able to find anything to buy, weapons wearing out super fast, feeling like I'm being forced into crafting, and a bunch of other things that bother me, I have a game that I can't enjoy. Until they fix some problems I have with the game, I won't return. Until then, I'm casually playing Warhammer Online because I enjoy the massive PVP battles that occur. Even FFXI is looking good now days, but that game has lost it's spark for me and I won't be returning to FFXI anytime soon.

You know people say that but I always found it infinitely amusing, lol. It was entertainment (at the middle school level) at its best.

Anyway, back on topic: As much as I planned to have FFXIV suck away my soul for the next couple of years, it instead spit it back out in a matter of a week upon launch. So in my frustration I will be going back to WOW.

I wasn't even following cataclysms progression (development) until just about a month ago. I seriously had no plans on playing anything but FFXIV into the foreseeable future. Anyway, long story short, after looking into cata and how much new stuff they're adding (not just top end raids but almost completely redone leveling system from 1-60) I've decided to go back.

I'm sure I'll get bored of it soon at which point i'll pick up SW:TOR. After that fizzles out FFXIV may have had enough development time to warrant a return (I really hope FFXIV makes it through these next few months; it's going to be tough for SE to convince PS3 users to climb onboard).

Mikhalia's Mega-Polls make my brain hurt. Can we do a quick true or false next time? (insert graphical smile)

I never got into WoW, played the demo for a few days... nothing drew me in. Honestly I'm more torn between picking up FFXIV or DC Universe. Both are for PS3 (can't see myself upgrading in the near future). I guess it will boil down to what game can I accomplish the most within an hour or so of playtime when I am able to play. If FFXIV can provide that experience I'd rather play that since I have many XI friends on the Rabanastre server. Who knows.. I'm beginning to think I may be too old be to a gamer nowadays (insert graphical sad face)

Whether or not I continue with FFXIV will depend on how December's update is.

If, after the December update, we're still limited to the 3G's (Guildleve, Grind, or GTFO) than I will not add a subscription once the free month is out.

If that were to happen, I would check out Cataclysm... but I sincerely doubt that I would play Cata beyond a single month.

I quit, and am planning on playing something non-wow. DCU online beta is the freshest MMO i've seen in years, and I'm loving that. I have tons of faith in Guild Wars 2 (with no monthly fee theres no reason not to try it), and I really do believe that SW TOR will put story based MMOs on the map, even it the gameplay isn't revolutionary.

But if none of those work out, I'll either give FFXIV another shot, or try out cataclysm. I like wow's pace of being able to solo and actually get something done, and then group up with friends for a couple hours a week to get through tough content. If FFXIV looks like I can play that way, I'll go for it, but I really don't see it happening.

I was looking for a "I'm not currently playing, but if SE fixes their ****, I might start again" option. My gut tells me that cataclysm is going to steal a lot of this game's thunder permanently. By that, I mean people will be wooed by that game and when they get tired of it they'll have mostly forgotten this game existed.

i played wow for the past week on my 7 day return trial thing
i was absolutely gutted
literally no customisation in trees, just pick a spec and really its a no brainer as to waht talents to select
no cookie cutter builds any more, 31 points in 1 tree then oyu can spread hte last 5 out.....

Got carted through heroics at a huge pace, and replaced my level 200-236 gear with level 215-245 in 2 hours... it took me 3 months to get the gear previously...

Unfortunately it looks like cataclysm is another gear up, go raiding, 2 months later the same level gear is farmable via heroics, rinse and repeat..

Im not hardcore, but id still rather run a raid for months until we get it on farm, and hten start tackling hte next. I dont want people who havent run the raid to easily farm gear which lets them do the same content we have worked hard for.

Personally never gonna touch WoW again regardless of whether SE manages to destroy the possibilities I see in FFXIV. I might try GWII when it comes out if SE manages to botch this up like terribad. While FFXIV is really rough around the edges I think SE has already started to show us the path the game is going to take and so far I am cautiously optimistic that the game will be much better by the PS3 release. I mean this last update, even with its' low points was still a giant leap in the right direction. A few more of those and some random spatterings of quests and eventually end game content and the game will start to look like more of the gem it should have been.

I played WoW for 6 years. It is old. Even with Cata, I still see it as the same game, just different mobs.

If this game bombs by the PS3 release, then I was planning on moving to TERA-Online. That game has a new play style for combat that was kinda abandon for MORPGs and MMORPGs after PSO and PSU. Though Vindictus has that style, but that game is still in OB/F2P.

Y'know... Even if SE DID do something to totally botch this game worse than they have I still wouldn't go running off to go play WoW... I've thought about retrying the game again but it's got nothing to do with FFXIV in any way, just thought about playing off and on for a single month between FFXIV sessions then quitting again, just to get my fill of WoW. Cataclysm doesn't interest me the least bit really (I didn't even have WotLK on that account.) so that's got no influence. But if worse came to worse I'd just leave and return to FFXI myself if I ever got sick of FFXIV.

I quit FFXIV within the first week (played beta too) and will come back depending on the Dec patch. Nov patch wasn't enough so I'm getting Cata though, so december patch would have to be really freaking great. Sorry S-E, too little too late. Would have been better waiting until march or some such and had everything done to make a kickass game. This releasing some bones and having it shamble around while you slowly add meat doesn't make a viable animal.
