Since FFXIV is heavily focused around the crafting system, what additions/improvements would you make to the crafting system to improve your gaming experience or even help solve some of the lingering problems?

Here are a few I came up with:

1. Allow us to craft items that can slow down the durability loss of your armor/weapons.

2. Allow us to craft items that will give an "exp/sp multiplier" buff for x amount of time. scroll-style items.

3. Allow us to craft items that repair any one piece of armor/weapon to 100% durability and without having to change classes. 100% success rate.

4. Allow us to craft items that have a "playful/fun" value.

5. For every 10 ranks in a specific DoH, allow us the ability to craft a special item/unique item that only you can equip. (can't trade or craft for another player)

6. Allow us to craft items that can add actual abilities for DoW, DoM and DoH.

Feel free to add your thoughts :)

1) we already do this its called "dont equip items we make that are way above your level"

2) NO NO NO NO NO cuz then thats all anyone would buy

3) there would be no point to leveling multiple crafts, NO

4) This will come down the line, so no need to even really mention it, theyve always added these

5) We already get special abilities every 10 ranks.....

6) See #2, those who dont buy exp gear would buy this instead, thus making all other gear useless

#1: Unnecessary. Instead SE should adjust the durability system at it's core instead of implementing band-aids.

#2: Again, they should adjust the core system, not give us band-aids.

#3: This, I think, is a very good idea. This allows people who don't want to craft the ability to buy a repair kit to repair their gear in the field. +1 :D

#4: Edit: Ahh, I see what you mean now. I fully support fluff content like fireworks, cosmetic gear, housing items (of course that would require a housing system).

#5: I never liked Bind on Equip items in other MMOs, so I'd be against such a system here.

#6: Equip-able abilities are intriguing. Although I see this as expansion style content.

If they ever add something like FFXI's Mog House, I want the ability to craft a fish tank. I once had a self-signed goldfish bowl that I ended up putting in my bazaar because I needed the gil worse than I needed the fish tank.

So funny that yesterday I was talking to a friend about something similar of what you wrote.
- NPC repair 100% durability
- Crafters repair 100% durability. When the item is repaired by crafters, the item will receive a polish bonus reducing the durability loss.

No, I didn't mean for any of my thoughts to be a troll/flame suggestion :)
As far as playful, I meant having the ability to craft an item that has a playful-style usage.
Just being table to craft something that can create a laugh :)

I thought HQ items have more dura/lose dura slower...

Anyways, keep track of who crafted items (made by Volt Propio)
I like the Alchemy anima/Aspect potions

A disassemble item feature would be nice (or even a disassemble class)

Bind on Pickup/Bind on Equip items would be nice

The ability to dye an item after it has been made would also be nice

I would love the ability to craft extra storage!!! OMG.

Like the pouch slot - does anything go there? I would love to craft a pouch that gave me an extra 10 inventory slots. I could put my fish or my potions in there.

I agree we need fireworks and other fun things.

I would love it if we could craft some stuff with abilities on them - nothing game-breaking but say something like a goat-repelling whistle? There could be different whistles to make different mobs go away ... (Can you tell that I love the goats?)

More potions! Also I would like it if SE made food stats visible - why does every other item have visible stats but not food? I think it would make food more attractive and I am pretty sure culinarian is the most unloved class out there.

That would actually be pretty cool ... maybe it could be called "tinker" and they could take stuff apart, and craft some mechanical type things. Perhaps when they take things apart it could create items you can't get any other way, most of which would be used by tinkers to create new things.

Id see it more as a "disamble, but not create" type class

the level of the dissasemble is the level of the item being broken down
the training you could learn from it being based on the different crafts in the game "metal, cloth, leather, misc."

would just be an interesting concept for getting materials out of things and give us another job for people to work on in the future

Man, I wish my mechanic would give me an item I can use to fix it to 100% when my car breaks down again.

Expounding on these ideas further:

-Maybe, for the Anima potions, instead have Teleport potions. To prevent these from becoming XIV's SoJ's, make them single person only, and make the destination be tied into the craft. For example, if you want to Teleport to Camp Bloodshore, maybe you mix in a drop from a local mob (Megalocrab leg, for example), and/or some to-be-implemented crystal or 'essence' of Bloodshore. This way a more powerful, generic "Anima potion" doesn't completely imbalance the economy.

-Similar idea for Guardian's favor... Have the person's name-day (and thus their Guardian) be built into the craft. "Potion of Lylamaen's Favor" which can only be used by players who have that as their Guardian... Incorporate the lore into the recipe (water god, so it takes Water Crystals or something) or even make it so someone who has that as their guardian is required to even do the craft at all. The motivation is the same... prevent items that will be inordinately high demand.

For me... this is a little picky but hey.... why not. They only half fixed this a while back, now to totally fix it and I'm happy. Fix the chat system so that the when your typing and your opening up menus in the crafting process that it doesn't disappear. They fixed the part when choosing between normal, rapid, bold.. etc... but how about during the whole process... plz

When companies get boats and buildings I'd like to see crafters given the ability to make vanity items for them. Iron cannon, custom sails, and furniture. I'd also echo the ability to sign items. Always liked that.

Would be super cool if crafters could do more customization - different coloured cuffs, shields emblazoned with the LS crest, etc.

out of this thread the three things i agree with most are :

1. being able to disassemble things

2. being able to craft items that give more storage

3. silly hats.

I think its clear this game needs more silly hats.

I'm going to quit if they don't implement more silly hat recipes and go back to TF2.

3. Allow us to craft items that repair any one piece of armor/weapon to 100% durability and without having to change classes. 100% success rate.

I like this idea best. Their should be repair kits for tiers of gear that only work for said items. For instance you'd have a tier 1 repair kit that would repair any item 1-10 made by that trade. Anyone would be able to apply said repair to their own items once they had the kit. Each class would make their own repair kits/tiers.

4. Allow us to craft items that have a "playful/fun" value.

Always good and most likely in-bound.

5. For every 10 ranks in a specific DoH, allow us the ability to craft a special item/unique item that only you can equip. (can't trade or craft for another player)

I like the idea of each crafter having specialty items that only they can use. Whether its a range of items to assist in crafting or helping other jobs, just like sub-jobbing a class to pick it up its skill.

i like this idea but with the added stipulation that these ra/ex items are for our crafting classes only, not beneficial to DoW or DoM classes as that would make crafters pretty much 100% self sufficient and hurt the overall economy

crafters can already make their own crafting gear so being able to make something special just for us would more or less give us just a cool looking piece of gear that is somewhat rare and i like that

Although every one of your suggestions is great and would improve the crafter's experience of the game all around, I especially like the one quoted above. I would greatly enjoy some unique items like you mentioned, and it would considerably elevate the fun of leveling such classes.

Very good ideas, indeed!

I just read the replies to this thread and I must say that it is figuratively overflowing with great suggestions! I really hope SE listens to almost all of the things said on this board, because so many of these would work well in FFXIV. If SE ever needs a new dev. team, I know one of the places they should look heh heh heh...

Truly a lot of great suggestions on here, especially crafting storage space and the ability to craft items for the ships we're getting soon.
