So, for a little fun last night, I decided to see how fast a solo new comer might progress in their first day of FFXIV after the sp patch. Now, I thought this was really funny, myself, so I wanted to post it. My 2nd character, Kindred Vahn on Mysidia got:

12 Marauder
8 Alchemist
lvl 10

and after some minor purchases, had about 15k left on him. Now this might not be overly mind boggling, but! this was done with almost no mob killing besides guild leve mobs and 8/8 regional and 7/8 local. This took me about 1-2 hours, was tired so can't remember fully. Dunno if anyone is overly impress or shocked, but you could lvl a 2nd character solely on guild leves and probably catch up to someone who has been playing solely on guild leves since release in about a month max solo. Wow, shocked me!

Thought I'd post this and see what peeps on ZAM think, also, I am not directing anything negative at SE, simply reporting what I discovered last night.

*Note, I feel there is almost no need for any gear under lvl 12 because at lvl 2 of a craft you can repair it and you level so fast that you would need 12 or higher gear after one set of guild leves. WOWZA!*

I think this is what SE intended. This allows newcomers to immerse themselves in the game by giving them more options to pursue and not feel they are under leveled.

Now once you hit 30+ however, a whole new ball game is in effect.

Not shocked at all really. 1-10 was already a breeze pre-patch and now with leves being improved as a source of SP & less SP needed to rank up it's to be expected.

My biggest shocker was that was in 2 hours or less! Lvl 12 in under 2 hours, before it was nothing hard to do, in my opinion, but it took some time. This was like in a blink of an eye I was lvl 12 and had a craft on it's way!

To be honest, once you knew what to do you could have done this pre-patch as well in the same amount of time. I did the same thing back when I started and have two characters on two different servers for two groups of friends who already established themselves on their respective servers.

I'm liking it. I've been playing two characters since release (as you know very well, of course). For the most part, my secondary has been able to keep up very well (vertically) since the start despite less time played on him, but at the expense of his horizontal progress. That's where the update has really helped me. I can take the time to level all his "subs" without feeling like I'm falling behind. I don't really feel like he's less fleshed out than my main anymore. It's nice.

the last week: (haven't played more than 4 hours / day)

marauder 1-10
archer 1-20
lancer 12-18
conjurer 1-14
thaumaturge 1-12
pugilist 33-34

I like the new SP system pre 20. it's been a blast every time I have logged in.

It's always easier to level up a new character as you don't spend hours pondering about "What this button does?" "Where do I go now?"

However the SP changes made it reeeeally easy 8)

I'm not able to get on here too often, but it is nice to see a thread that is positive all on it's own and not people saying "I wanted to say something positive about FFXIV." Glad to see some unforced, sincere feedback from players.

Post-30 is mindblowingly long. months and months

Well this is encouraging for anyone with a 30+ craft who wants to level some subs to 15. Shouldn't take too long, and you can make some decent items. Few wands come to mind with my Carpentry...could definitely level up Alchemy some more.

SP gained after the patch made a lot of people happy with levelin low ranking jobs. Right now I'm working on every DoW and DoM to 20 before I continue my main again.
