Edit - For clarification, I did not post this questioning its authenticity. I have learned well enough how to identify phishing spam and "sneaky hyperlinks". Either someone is pretending to be SE and sending emails with proper links to reset ones password... or they have actual results from an investigation that determined a number of SE accounts were compromised.

Don't click on the link. Type it into your address bar manually.

Yeah, I went in directly and changed it. I tested the link though and it was on the up and up. Not only that but the email header info jives with other emails I have gotten from SE.

I can't be the ONLY account to be compromised by a third party. I demand JuStIcE! I should file a criminal report and have the authorities track down the thiefs who potentially stole my username or password. Who knows, they might now have my mailing address too and are going to steal my SecKey right from under my nose!

if you werent paying attention, this actualy isnt them being pro-active

what happens is rmt sites hack into forum databases for games like these(or perhaps are even sold the emails.....somehow this seems more plausable, or other places where gamers are known to be, and they send out random emails such as this, with links that will re-route you to one of their sites, but they will look EXACTLY like the official site.
they then proceed to steal your info when you type it in.....

i get dozens of these every week in my spam box for warcraft. i havent seen any FF ones yet show up. its actualy quite annoying.

Phishing attempt, same as WOW gets 24/7.
The exact term for forging an email address is called a "Joe Job" and can also be done with links if you are not careful. For example..

This.com

The link says "This.com" but is actually directing you to this exact page =p

Yeah, my account has also been compromised =_=;

Is the only way to get around this by directly contact a square enix staff member to go in and change your passwords? I do not want to have my char deleted or become an RMT slave drone, ahahaa.

its just too bad that they're only open monday - friday =/

i should also add.. my secret question has been changed as well =_=; wtf...

Yes recently I got a ton of "Your account has been changed" emails from Blizzard/Battlenet. One idea I found on Battlenet website was to create a unique email address used only for emails from blizzard. No outgoing email. Since my ISP allows me to have 5 email addresses on my account that is easy to do.

Actually, the "free accounts" to them and stealing gil are one and the same. They steal the account, sell the gil, and continue using it to make more.
