Epic Fails - Weekend CraftingFollow

#1 Dec 06 2010 at 9:16 AM Rating: Good
Did anyone else notice a disproportionately higher rate of fails / unstable elements over the weekend? Myself and some LS members were having a harder time than usual with high rank local leves (3-5 ranks above current). Nothing some grilled carp couldn't fix, but still...seemed odd.

I actually did a good deal of crafting this weekend but didn't notice any higher rates of failures than whats usual. I even did a couple r30's when I was 26 and didn't have more difficulty completing synths than normal.

On one leve my first synth attempt failed and caused the lightning element to become unstable, ruining the synth from the start. The next try failed all but one attempt. All synths after that were successful with maybe one fail out of every 4 attempts. It was seemingly completely random. It's like it said" ***** you, you're not finishing this one!" and I'd fail it miserably.

Actually quite the opposite, I've been having more success than usual as of late and am simply rolling in piles of cotton cloth, a synth that haunted my dreams pre-update. Over the weekend my shell and I actually just sat around crafting a few times and no one seemed to complain about breaks either. Sorry, just bad luck I suppose?

I failed on an Arm leve quest that I easily crafted before. Also failed quite a few synths well below my current rank on BSM. I just get up, walk away, scream, relax and return to the grind.

Interesting. All of our fail issues were ARM and BSM. Not to say we failed the whole synth, just bad attempts. Thank god for Preserve.

I've had awesome success crafting since the November patch. Before when I'd take a local leve that was 3-5 ranks above where I was at, I was doomed to fail, now I've only failed one local leve in the past 2 weeks.

Read second post... I think it's something they did with the Nov. patch personally

That's interesting. I think there's something here. We're all used to crafting THROUGH elemental instability. Me personally (even still), I just turn on Preserve and keep going. I think the issue is when you see a white orb, realize the element is unstable, but give a try (w/o Preserve) anyway. When I do that, I've had success but also failure. When I fail, it's a loss of 20-45 Durability AND, get this, loss of Quality (as high as 65 so far).

Odd, odd, odd. One guy on my LS thinks he's seeing a pattern relating to weather and time of day (Eorzea). Maybe moon phases too. IDK.
