I wanted to ask.. if I dont make payment for a certain amount of time (after free trial), will my character gets deleted?

if so, then I find no reason to cont playing at all.. cuz I dont want them to charge me $15/mo when I'm not playing the game for several months..

well my work is project based.. so sometimes I have a 2, 4, 6-month-project.. and during that time I couldn't play the game even if I wanted to.. so I might have to stop subscription in that period of time..

I don't wanna continue playing if in the future when I have a long term project, come back and find out that my high level toon is deleted due to not making payment. :/

I'd really appreciate it if someone can give me information regarding this.. cuz everytime I ask people, the answer's always, "idk" or "not likely" or "maybe" lol

Most likely they freeze your account, but not delete it. Most of these companies never delete any data, there's no reason to.

However, if they read the thread and see you're trying to game the system, I wouldn't be surprised if they perma-ban your account.

Happy trails

Banning me for what? I dont get it.. >.<

It's a legit question.. when I'm working, I'm working.. I dont wanna be distracted by video games.. also I dont want any service to charge me any money when I'm not using it. When I pay for something, I expect to use it to the fullest extent. But if they do ban me for asking this question then I guess I'd say, "thanks for the free trial.. and no more SE games for me". :/

Short answer: Doubtful

Real answer: No one knows

Comment: They'd be completely insane to delete characters given the fact that they're relying on people to come back in order for the game to survive. They'd also be robbing themselves of revenue from "Return to Eorzea" campaigns like FFXI had.

I think this is pretty solid logic. For XI, I canceled my account, then came back over a year later and my char was still intact. I'm guessing that you can pretty safely assume that they won't delete your char.

Maybe I misunderstood your OP.
If you don't pay and you're trying to play the game past the payment period while having no intention of ever paying, this is gaming the system.
They won't delete your account, but if you're openly trying to play periodically past the free trial (some companies bill at the end of the period, and allow a 'grace period' for delinquent accounts), you're most likely violating the Terms of Use, and would probably be subject to a ban.

My $.02. If you don't want to play anymore, I'd voluntarily suspend/freeze your account.

Again, SE won't "delete" anything. They'd put it on hold so you could re-activate later if you so pleased.

The safer way would probably be to cancel your subscription, then reactivate when you do play.

FFXI did not delete my character after I took a year or so break...not sure why FFXIV would be any different. It would be a financially poor move for SE to delete character data considering the economy and the overall state of the game. Also...they know a lot players have said they may come back months down the road once the game has more content.

thank you all for the replies..

The reason I'm asking is because I've played a game before when I dont pay the monthly subscription, they deleted my account. I think it was like after a 8-month-project that I had. Also those web-based games do such thing when you dont play for a certain amount of time, they deleted your account lol. Was just wondering if that's the case for FFXIV too :P

I see Aan sorry i got nosey lol. Anyway in XI they did have a warning about the deletion of characters after a certain period of time, but i haven't seen it happen in XI. Best thing would be to go and read where you activate and see what disclaimer they have. :)

This is exactly what I was wondering too. I'm in a bit of a same situation as OP.

I've tried getting the answer from SE sites and what not, and the sad thing is, their users have to go out of their way to find something as basic as billing details/character policy or whatever....
All the answers here put me to rest a bit, but.... I'm still not sure they won't do something shifty to my character if I have to put the game on hold for a while cause of real life :( and I've learned from XI and on some other games that I, in fact, can expect all sorts of (unpleasant) surprises from SE.

They should dedicate their next 'Ask the devs' to this or something....

Your account wont get deleted don't worry about it. In FFXI I once quit for 2 years and came back and my character was still there with everything he owned.

The official answer is "There is a tiny chance it could happen, and they cannot and will not guarantee your character will be there".

The unofficial answer is "The likelihood of actually having it deleted is extremely low".

Mik sums it up rather well, as usual. To add my personal experience, I've taken several breaks from FFXI in the past for similar reasons (school rather than work), but have never had any trouble getting my characters back. The longest break I took was 2.5 years, and my character was still there waiting for me. I didn't have to contact SE or anything, just had to reactivate the account.

Plus, if you think about this realistically, SE has very little reason to actually delete your account. They aren't exactly hurting for the space your character takes up, and deleting it makes it that much less likely that you will come back in the future to give them more money. It makes pretty good financial sense for them to hold onto that character on the slim chance that you'll be back.

no, I don't think so. From people who have already suspended - I believe your character remains as an "option" that you just need to subscribe to in order to reactivate it. I know it is icky but I have found sending SE an email through the form on their website does actually result in a response. They would probably let you know for sure.

back in the old days you might lose your character but now they want your money if you want to continue playing later on.

I know in XI they allowed this, so I'm assuming it'll be this way for XIV too, you can freeze the account yourself.

I plan to do this when I end up studying abroad. For my second major I'll be in Japan for 4-5 months and as it doesn't make sense to bring my PS3, I'll probably freeze or suspend my account, whatever I need to do, until I'm back in the states. Though even then it'll be my senior year so who knows when I'd make it back. Worry about it when it comes time to cross that bride, or however the saying goes.
