they finally got the hint, it about time. it took them long enough to realize that what they wanted is not the same as what they created, there sells have drop cause of this, and reviews have pile up even after patching did very little. they know that they have to step up the game now, because months after launch date ppl still show how unhappy they are, and SE finally getting the hint.

for this game to be known as the biggest flop of the year would change any company perspective, and have them think "hey we really really need to get our sh*t together" cause to be honest, i might of lost 80 bucks on this game but there loosing way way more, one was respect the other is tons of money.

wow, I don't know what to say. On one hand, I don't want to see people suffer deeply because they may have made the wrong decision when they may not have had the correct information about what they should be doing, on the other, I feel this game was going in such a wrong direction.

The notion of 'Final Fantasy' has always been such an idol in my heart. It was heatbreaking when it didn't turn out. I had payed for the Collector's edition yet I didn't pay after the first week because it was so bad. I have spent time going back and playing the previous editions of the series. I hope not as a memorial. I want this game to succeed so badly. Final Fantasy should be the heir to the RPG dynasty, should it not? I want it to be. I want to like this game, but I feel like I have been given so many beautiful parts, but without a unifying center.

I get angry, not because I want the game to fail, but because I want it to succeed. I need it to.

This is probably good news for everyone who had high expectations for the game, although it is still a "wait and see" situation. Its good to see that SE is definitely not willing to let FFXIV go down the drain and hopefully, the new development team will be able to bring to us the game that most of us were hoping for.

Oh.. and my first initial response was "Wow.." as well.. :)

I sure hope so. Also sounds like there will be 2 patches before the end of the year.

This is a pretty big announcement.

I was originally concerned the Komoto had been sacked but he's still on as the lead designer. I doubt any of the "underlings" got sacked unless the management felt that the extended time to fix bugs (instead of making changes, as per Tanaka's statements) was a result of..umm...sub-par craftsmanship.

Wooww two version updates in December, I'm loving this!

First of all, I would like to apologize for our inability to fully satisfy our users with the initial release of FINAL FANTASY XIV. I take full responsibility for the game's current situation, and have therefore made the decision to step down from my role as producer. A number of concerns that have been voiced by users, such as the design of the user interface, availability of tutorials and game content, and battle system functionality, represent key issues that must be addressed. While improvements are already well underway in many areas, we were unfortunately not able to incorporate player feedback as quickly as we would have liked. We are aware, however, that in many cases, addressing these issues will call for a reworking of game elements. As these changes are our first priority, they will be commanding our full attention and efforts. It is to that end that we have put a new organizational structure into place for the development team. Under this new system, FINAL FANTASY XIV will see changes and additions in line with the desires and expectations of players. Though no longer producer, I will be continuing to support the development team in other capacities, and personally hope that you will continue your adventures in the realm of Eorzea.

Hiromichi Tanaka

Stepped down my ***...he got demoted. Poor guy, but you'd expect this on a big title such as this one.

Well, I don't know about anyone else, but I'm actually really excited now to see where this game is headed, even more so than before.

Very, very hard and critical decision. And a lot of PS3 players *will* be up in arms.
But just because they never played the PC version.
The mountain has moved. Incredible.

Rampaging? why because when the game finally launches on PS3 theyll have a complete and playable game?

... yeah, I'd rage over that too.

altho with another free trial extention i may never have to uninstall the game...

I honestly hope they can fix this mess, The words Final Fantasy have always been held with high regard in my heart, as of right now the words Final Fantasy are what this game is going to end up being.

Okay SE, you've won my respect and customer good will for a while. I'm surprised they would do this. I mean I understand the business reasons but it's so rare they'll make a decision that is so heavily customer pro that... just wow.

That was though move.

But these are good news, it means that they genuinely wish to save the game, I want to be optimistic about this, specially since every minute they take to put the game in the write direction it's a minute that costs money.

Besides I don't mind to keep a free subscription and I bet neither most of the remaining player based, actually I'm willing to wait as long as they keep their promise to make the game fun before they start charging for it.

Incomplete or not, many people were ****** that the PS3 version wasn't coming out till March 2011, this is including those who are already playing the PC version, as they have planned to play both platforms for their own reason, whether it was with a friend, roommate, wife, etc. Now it's extended pass March for an unknown time, and many of the many fans who already know of the current state of the game, could care less, because they want in.

Edit: Me being one of those waiting for the PS3 version(playing PC atm), it may not bother me much, but it will for others.

I wonder what Tanaka has been demoted to. Final Fantasy XI got a new director and now things are going great over there. I'm hoping the same for Final Fantasy XIV! Tanaka seems to have been edged out of the leadership role in both titles completely.

Kind of reminds me of how they demoted Sakaguchi after the disastrous release of "Spirits Within" in theaters a decade before.

I think it was more the other way around, all the players who dislike the way the ffxiv direction was going were'nt tolerating it, SE finally took note that we meant business when we all posted more negative then positive feedback making SE realize when you advertise high expectations then you better be able to deliver it, if not then this is what the out come becomes.

They *really* started moving, it seems. The last update already impressed me - for a while.
It's like in one of those "Rocky" movies, or Metal Gear Series games. Will the old hero be
able to muster his strength once more for a final, devastating blow?

I sincerely hope so. A shift in leadership may be more a symbolic act than a true, tangible
remedy. But it shows that even an old giant like SE is willing and able to adapt. After
months of customer complaints, to be sure - but in the end, that doesn't matter.

I just wish Wada's head was on the hangman's list as well. In the end, it was most likely
him who forced the early, unfinished release, not Tanaka.

He has no title anymore, so as far as XIV goes, he is probably nothing.

But as for SE, I think he has some management role there and he will continue doing that.

****, he can go do another Chrono now!

I was so shocked when I read the email. I couldn't believe my eyes, a company so large and mighty as square-enix apologizing with no restraint to its customers. For their PR department to do that, and for the reshuffling it means things are going worse in the background that the product already makes it seem. I'm glad for the trial being extended as I've been unable to play while intel fixes my good motherboard..although I worry FFXIV will flop and Squeenix will revamp FFXI with better graphics/focus on a new fleshed out FFXI(FFXI-2? perhaps)..but only time will tell.

on a lighter note, this makes me glad for pre work insomnia, I'll have something to talk about in the computer sales department during my shift at work tommorow as most of my co-workers do not check emails before going to work..huzzah

I'm rather shocked, never thought they would eat this much humble pie. I'm glad they are going full bore trying to get the game to meet the vision that all of us dreamed it could be. I know it will take time and **** I'd actually pay for it now if I thought my contribution could get it done faster. I'm glad they finally gave us a heads up on what is going on, but at the same time I feel bad for some of those developers. I'm sure they worked very hard and ran into roadbumps along the way but were forced to release the game before it was finished. Here's to hoping FFXIV becomes the beautiful game we all hope it will beSmiley: smile

This IS the highlight which really caught me.
And I saw they added in quite a number of 11 crew...

quite good...quite good... just hope they wont change thing too fast and become chaotic.

Perfect timing. I was actually considering canceling my account today. Possibly even ragequitting on the forums. ****, I almost joined my roommates in WoW and went Alliance! I was such a Hordie! This makes me pretty happy. I don't like to see people lose their job or face shame, but then again, I don't like spending $70 for a Collector's Edition paperweight which is exactly where this game was headed.

I truly, from the bottom of my heart, wish the new team the very very best... and want an Auction House.

Yes Tanaka made *so* many fantastic titles in the past; just because he slipped once doesn't mean
he lost his value. I fully expect him to go back to what he's best at. Offline single-player RPGs
that consist of 80% love for character design and story, and 20% graphics. The competition-driven
internationalized MMORPG market just may not be the best stage for his true and unquestionable talent.

Chrono! Chrono! Chrono!

No way, not at this point. For sure they will make it happen, SE has a pretty good track record. I think despite the many people hating on FFXII, FFXIII and previous FF games in general, SE has always made quality products and the majority of people enjoyed them, they're not noobs at this (FFXIV was just the black sheep for god knows what reason this happened). They will make FFXIV really good for sure, and the PS3 will be where the game is saved.
