New players in the dev team means new changes. This might be our shining chance for an auction house or some function to help out the community with buying/selling thier items. I say if they dont hear our voices, Shout louder. Our cries will be heard folks! <3 cheers for a better game.

Poll is 2 spots down.

The game just needs an Auction House. It simplifies the buying and selling process.

I was ALL for the privatized merchant system in the beginning because the entire playerbase should ultimately pan out what is a reasonable price for goods, rather than the type of gamers that farm an object into extinction. Those days are over though and the only way to stabilize the market and make the game playable is to have a centralized Auction House system.

There should be so much more to do in an MMORPG than mill about for hours trying to find a belt buckle (and ultimately not finding it in many cases, I might add). It's really that simple.

they arent going to add an AH. theyve stated why, not to mention the reasons seasoned mmo vets are able to distinguish. not to mention above ALL else, they have FAR too many much more important things to do in order to save their sinking ship than make shopping quicker for lazy power gamers who cant imagine the thought of stopping the grind to go actually shop in what is supposed to be an immersive world. (granted everyone else has to put aside that very same amount of time to shop, that or go gimp - so not sure what other than laziness drives the desire to allow price scalping, undercutting, allow bots and rmt to flourish, allow oversaturation, ughghg so many issues and all it would solve is throwing lazy folks a bone)

Basically, they have limited resources and I'm going to go just a tad bit out on a limb and say that those resources will be much be much better spent in areas like content and content and probably a bit of it in things like content. but dont take my word for it =p

sorry, just tired of people preaching that the games success hinges on a frigging auction house. gimme a break, let it go. God what would we do if they made a game around auction houses?!?! they could call it... "The Auction House!" or "The Auctioneer" and you could undercut everyone selling the same thing as you until prices became worthless every day! Specially the cgf farmers that manage to post 1000's of what it took you a month to get 10 of!

There is always community interaction and player to player trade, bartering, and finding an agreeable price amongst two players though... or wait, no there isnt... bleghgh play eq1 and I probably dont have to make this arguement because you know exactly what im talkin about.

Lol such arguments are so petty. Lazy gamers need an AH when wards are already inefficient and of course that's blamed on LAZY GAMERS. Guess what? The game is all about grinding LOL.

I believe there are more important things the devs should concentrate on, than an Auction House, but... If the introduction of an Auction House helps keep the raging down, it may be worth to add it sooner rather than later...

As I've stated before. Perhaps this new search function will allow for immediate buy rather than going to the retainer that has the item. This would work very similar to an AH. I will agree they need a search feature though very much like xi.

And just think, an auction house that runs off of a database rather than hundreds of lag producing NPCs wouldn't crash 3 times a day making it that much harder to find what you want :)

At this point in time I do not se an AH. SE has invested too much into the retainer system to abandon it now. A move to an AH would render all that work as obsolete. I believe that their immediate efforts wil be in developing and perfecting the search function.

At this point in time i don't think SE has the liberty or luxury to go with what they invested time in. Its clear the Market Wards don't work - they didn't even work on paper I don't know how they made it into the final product - I think an AH is coming if not by years end then next year.

It's pretty easy to see how badly the retainer system has bombed so far. I'm glad they have handed the development over to some of the people from XI. Hopefully they can correct the obvious problems with the game and move forward with some more content. I for one was all for the new retainer system at first but it flopped. Give us additional characters for $1 a month, put up an AH and scrap the retainer system entirely.

I choose option 3, I'd like to see what SE will include in the market ward improvements over the course of the next two patches before I say FFXIV NEEDS and AH. Would it be an improvement over the current system? Absolutely, but so would the fixes that are already planned.

Given, I test software for a living, so I'm used to working with incomplete features on a day to day basis. I'm not ready to completely rule out the wards as broken, I think the system holds some merit and I think it can succeed if SE implements their changes correctly. I have confidence that they will do just that.

Market wards or any system where buying items is difficult will not work, simply because the game is so heavily reliant on crafting.

if you search an entire ward (or preferably the entire cities wards), and the item you buy shows up immediately, thats an AH. even if the NPC you talk to isnt named "Auction House Counter"

Once they put an AH in the game it will improve everything in so many ways imo.

I agree with a few others that the Retainer/Ward system has potential. Imagine a Ward like this:

Instead of all the indiviual zones you have to warp between, the Wards are just one large zone. This zone would be split into different sections like the sections are now. One city's set-up could have a central hub with hallways branching out from it for the different items (Like a wagon wheel). Another could have a central hallway with the sections coming off the sides (Like it is now, but the center sections where you use to warp would all be connected).

Each hallway would still have the same tax system as they do now so encourage people to set up shop in the correct areas. They've shown they can split the zones up in the 11/25 update so I dont see why this wouldn't work. Have where you warp in be a retainer free zone (center hub area, main hallway...) so that people just dont camp in the first area that's easy to get to. 'But I sell multiple types of stuff!' Yeah yeah, that's why we should/would get multiple retainers. Even if they didn't increase inventory size, at least have 2-3 to be able to sell from.

Also in the 'neutral zones' is where the search function would be. I imagine this being almost exactly like FFXI. Either a window or NPC to click to access the item lists. Pick stuff the same way... Armor>Body/Head/Legs etc, Weapon>Gladiator/Blacksmith/Miner etc. Select the type and then it shows you a list of everything. Once you select the item you're searching for instead of viewing sell history/bid, you would have the option of tagging whatever retainers are selling the item. Maybe have their names/ward listed and item price and being able to tag individual retainers. Once you've finished searching and tagging you run and buy your stuff.

And there you have it. The workable Market Ward/Eorzea Mall system. They could even throw in a food court/fountain area where players could idle to sell their stuff instead of doing it infront of the Adventurer's Guild and lagging everyone up. (I imagine this is where the Santa Moogle could set up shop as well ;)

Thoughts?

its staying around 75-80% , isnt that significant enough for a change.

tbh i think the only ones that dont want the AH are the ones banking on thier crafts.

Have to disagree with you there, I think the AH is the one thing that will encourage people to stay and possibly return. Then of course there is the search function, mailbox etc. Is it wrong to want a mog house....I feel like a vagrant.

It's funny how people cry about there not being anything to do in FFXIV and then cry about the need of for an AH so they could do even less.

Going to have to disagree that the AH is not a top priority or important. They can fix this game all they want, but in it's current state the economy is just aggravating.

Plus, it is really hard to get new players in when you are talking about the game and try to describe the market ward system. Not a single MMO fan has looked at me and said, "wow, that sounds like a great idea, let me sign up".

Personally, I am just ignoring the game until I at least see the new market search, if that looks painful, this game goes back on the shelf until an AH comes along.

My biggest complaint is wading through (the lag o.O) in the market wards just to find the right retainer after going on the http://ffxi.yg.com/ site to find the item you want to purchase.

A simple fix for that would be to just be able to "summon" the retainer you have found that has the item you want and are searching for with the caveat that it is only for "purchasing of items" reasons; unlike our personal retainer system which allows us much more management.

/cheers & Merry Christmas you all!!!!!!

p.s. not to derail the thread but [mail delivery] [can I have it]???
