[Extension of the Free Trial Period]
As stated above, the newly restructured team's top priority is to bring about improvements to the game's enjoyability, and therefore we have decided to extend the free trial period until we can provide a plan that outlines a level of enjoyment that will satisfy both us and our customers. When we are confident that we have reached that goal, we will notify our customers immediately.

Anyone happen to catch that out of the new release? Any clue how many trial extensions SE is going to offer? I mean, in all honesty, why not just go ahead and say "We will be offering free trials until the PS3 release."

On another note, I've decided that since SE is graciously offering another free month of service, I'm reinstalling FFXIV. I played for a bit after the November updates to find that the headaches I was suffering from in the game had gone away(No, not tension or frustraition headaches. I believe it was from the lighting or the rendering method.) However, I do not wish to run into the same problem I had before uninstalling, which was a lack of motivation to actually PAY to play the game. (Sorry, in my honest opinion it's not worth 12 bucks a month!)

I've been pouring over the forums, and have been asking around a bit here and there. Everywhere I look I see suggestions for linkshells, and that linkshells are ABSOLUTELY necessary to enjoy the game(oddly enough). So, anyone got an LS going on Melmond?

It's basically free to play until further notice. I'm pretty sure they will give at least a month warning before switching to pay to play.

@wolfums: I'm not so sure. Until this update, I was almost convinced that they'd be moving to Pay-to-play for the December month.

@TwistedOwl: Thanks for the link. I'll check it out.

Seeing as how payment and the PS3 are both delayed until further notice (further notice being when they fell the game is up to par), payment is suspended until PS3 release.

I'm not sure where people are getting this notion that PS3 release and the beginning of payment for service are in any way related. They're not. At all. The notice specifically said that they're extending the trial until they're satisfied that they've come up with a plan that they feel will bring the game on par with what they and the players are expecting. It doesn't say that they're holding off on charging until they've implemented that plan, just that they aren't charging until they've come up with one.

They've just gutted the leadership team of the game. They need time for the new folks (and previous folks now in different roles) to sit down and bounce around ideas and determine where they need to go to get the game to the point where they feel it's on track. It could take a couple of weeks. It could take longer. They're better off leaving the length of the trial undetermined at this point. Every time the give a new date to start collecting payment, the people on the fence get closer to that date and start to get on edge wondering if they should cancel or stick around.

And once they've got that plan and announced it to players, they have to implement that plan, and then they have to port those changes to the PS3 version. I expect PC players to be paying for service (unless they go F2P) at least a month or two before PS3 launch, if not sooner.
