Regarding Retainers (An appeal to my fellow players)Follow

#1 Dec 14 2010 at 9:08 AM Rating: Good
With the upcoming update bringing us all a new retainer to work with, many of us are excited at having more storage and more ways to sell. However, I implore you all, unless they add significant capacity to the wards please do not put up both retainers to sell things all day long at the same time. It's already to the point where it lags out to where you can't even find a retainer when you know the name of the one you are looking for without edging along so they load on your screen. I also think the last thing we want to see is idiots given the ability to fill not one but two retainers full of garbage in Battlecraft that never have any weapons in themSmiley: oyvey

I plan to fill one retainer with consumables, synth items, and gear for my other jobs that I will be able to access anywhere and anytime I can call her. The other retainer will be used for selling items and storing seldom used items I want to hold onto. I think this would be the best possible use of our retainers without causing more strain to the wards and allowing you access to your frequently needed items everywhere you go without having to run into the ward of whatever town they are in or take down what you have for sale.

Thank you and praise be to the second retainer!

By all means put them up if you have lots of great goodies you need to get to the gear-starved masses but I'm just offering an alternative use for that shiny new retainer :)

Rate UP!!!

I agree 100% this is what I planned on doing as well.
Original Retainer = my seller/bazaar; store rare items I may grab at a later time.
New Retainer = my mog house... frequently drop stuff off and grab ... store mats and gear for multi jobs I am leveling.

If everyone in the game put 2 retainers in battlecraft and stood next to them with their own bazaar... that ward would be impossible to sift through... I already make it a point to not step into the first two wards... EVER...
This is not beneficial to the seller or myself (the buyer)

If we work together and maintain some order in the Market Wards they may be bearable... until we get better methods of searching... or when/if we are graced with a tear drop from GOD known as an AH...

However I am ecstatic about an additional FREE... FREE!!! retainer..

They seem to be doing something about the organization and naming of the wards...

Possibly related to "OMG 2 RETAINERS AT ONCE LETS LAG THE **** OUT OF THIS PLACE"-phenomenon.

Let's see what happens.

God knows I need the storage capacity a second retainer will grant me. I have not really decided what I will do with my second. I may do like the OP and put synth materials or even extra equipment on it and be able to call it wherever, whenever I want. If I run out of selling space, I would probably split my sellables into different types and place both retainers in wards for selling, but probably NOT in the same city.

I, unlike some, do put my retainers in as proper a ward as I can. My retainer is in the Alchemist ward of Gridania and she sells things like quicksilver, extra minuim, beeswax, and other misc alchemy or baubles I make from skilling up I want to get rid of (copper buckles, cotton thread/cloth, etc.)

I for one will probably have 3-4 retainers selling stuff when we can start buying them.

My retainer currently sells out at least twice a day with the ridiculous limitation of 10 items. Considering that fact, I seem to providing what people want, so I will probably do more of the same.

I feel that I have a hard time finding stuff to buy because sellers don't have the option of providing variety with only 10 item slots available. So your retarded suggestion is only going to keep things @ the status quo. As if its not bad anough.

I don't lag at all in the market wards, retainers pop in a nice clip. So maybe your suggestion should be: upgrade your pc and your internet connection.

You realize this isn't an option for everyone, many people have responsibilities that come before spending more money on gaming. I'm happy for you that this isn't a problem, but don't offer it as a solution for everyone that finds this to be a concern. I did buy a new PC but it's what I could afford, can't always get the best.

I'd wager not all of us need 20+ slots available at all times to peddle our wares, but if you do then pop that second retainer up full of useful items and I'm sure we'll be happy to buy them off you. I'm just offering an alternative use or maybe something people didn't consider about the second retainer.

Or, if you put both retainers up, put them where they belong. You know . . . NOT the Battlecraft Ward and probably not the Tradescraft Ward. With two retainers, you should be able to put, for example, gear for sale on one and mats on the other. Then, put them in the ward that represents the majority of whatever you are selling, or at least what is likely to be the most sought-after items you're selling.

I think we all get the fact that no one thinks the current system is the right system, but let's police it a bit as a player base since they have promised at least some improvement. Just dumping your retainer(s) in the first ward isn't going to help the situation any.

I do this religiously, I move my retainer to whatever ward is appropriate for the majority of the items I have to sell. I wish more people did so, but I've found countless people listing hard to find items on YG and they pop their retainer in battlecraft for god knows what reason. I'm promoting intelligent use of retainers across the board for the better of us all.

I think I'll probably do the same as this is a reasonable and thoughtful suggestion. Not sure why this would pull a troll.

The biggest issue is that the people here are a small fraction of the playerbase, and the fact that discussions about what people can\should be able to do with their retainers is a complete failure of the system. Remember the old phrase from FFXI - It's my 12.95? Well, this time it actually applies. System limitations like 10 slots per retainer I understand - player convenience limitations imposed upon ourselves because of an unpolished system I do not.

Even if you could have some measure of expectation that the players from here will all "get along" and do the "right" thing, there's a hefty chunk of folks out there who aren't going to "play by the rules" and will do whatever they want anyway, regardless of whether it helps or hinders the system. Most of them might not even know about this initiative.

I personally think that we should keep pressure on SE to rethink this whole thing, but I've also been an AH advocate from the beginning. This is just too extraneous, and when I have to start thinking about playing my game around the convenience of others - it's just FFXI all over again except this time it doesn't even make sense.

the update notes for tomorrow say something about updating the names/organization of the wards, maybe this means they will set the first two wards as "Misc. Wards"

Edit. spelling (not a spell-check fail, but a click post fail)

I stopped using my current retainer to sell stuff a long time ago. He's simply a mogsafe now. No real need to make money and being able to call him up in every town has been a huge bonus.

But, in dedication to this thread, my new one will have some stupid name & placed in the battlecraft ward with moko grass for 9999999999Smiley: lol

I don't care about retainers buying and selling I just need space.I know it's stupid but I carry around a complete macro swap for 12 jobs. I can't party with anyone because after about 15 fights I start crafting or drop stuff no one wants to party with someone like that I know I wouldn't. Smiley: frown

***** tax incentives in wards, let's force people to sell that type of item in that ward, and add "general wards" for all the people who want to sell their mole meats+1, call it the clearance isle, a place where you go when you're bored and waiting for your party to check out.

Second.

Also, add a separate menu or a bazaar list submenu for selecting a retainer's glamor gear. I've seen 3 people with 999M black harnesses, subligaria and jackboots on their cats. I predicted this **** would happen, and now I want it to go away.

That doesn't even bother me that much, what bugs me is you can't set which piece of gear your retainer wears in a slot if you give them multiple of the same slot.

I.E. My retainer always choses Hempen Doublet +1 over Bronze Hauby / Bone Scale Mail / Scouting Jacket etc.

this please 10000x. an additional retainer will provide increased flexibility for selling multiple items in the correct wards..

delete tax incentives and require the proper items to be sold in the proper wards, i wouldnt even care that there wasnt an AH anymore after the search feature is added.

Its hard enough to find the exact items you want for sale and you're imploring people not to sell more items primarily because of lag??? That's the complete opposite of saying "hey definitely use your second retainer to sell stuff if it has worthwhile stuff to sell" which is what you should have said to begin with.

A good bit of people are using the system to show we need an AH. They put items in the wrong place to show that the curent system for selling items dose not work. I bet they will just use the second retainer to do the same. Clog up the system more and hope it makes SE add the AH they want.

Do I suport this? Can't say I care. The system dose not work. I really don't see the search working. I sell all my items where ever crafters are working. If people want to clog up the wards in hopes that it screws over the curent bazzar system go for it. I wont be using them and I can't say that geting an AH would hurt my feelings at all.

I apologize for not fleshing out my thought process more but alas that's what you get for rolling out of bed and posting half-asleep. I've personally have no intention of using the other retainer to sell things as I like the idea of having often needed items readily available to me. I'm well aware that some people can actually put 2 retainers to use properly. Many will likely not, I know the sheer futility of what I suggested but the current system is horrible for trying to find anything you need amongst a veritable sea of retainers/afk bazaars. The addition of the 2nd retainer will likely compound this problem, if I convinced even one person on my server to try using their retainers the way I suggested that's once less retainer clogging up the wards. It's my sincere hope that the new division of the wards will help alleviate some of this problem and put my fears of max retainers jammed into a ward where I can't even peddle my own goods in the proper place because everyone is doubling up.

I'm gonna laugh if SE gives people the Auction House they have been crying for and limits everyone to the old FFXI 7 slots and thats it routine.
