Well yes, there are many areas where this game could use polishing. For one, the story isn't very understandable to me anyways. I personally enjoyed XI because of the vast story. Another bone to pick with this game that I have is leveling the field. It seems to me once I get to a certain class rank (the equivilant to job levels) it is hard for me to find a mob that gives good skill points. A final issue I have with this game is the crafting. It seems it takes alot more materials to go into the final end product. The XI crafting system was much simpler. This game is good but is in need of improvement. The thing that has me coming back is in hopes of it getting better, I will be ready to tackle the story when more content is added eventually. If you do decide to get this game, there is no monthly subscription at the moment.

Here is my question for you. Are you willing to forgoe a little polish to be in at the opening of a game instead of waiting the extra time for it to become polished? Soon we will see many people QQ'ing about how they are behind everyone blah blah blah. Well guess what they had the chance to put in the time, now so do you. SE genuinely seems commited to fixing this game, and that being the case I will never ever regret the time I have spent building my character through the "extended beta". So again, where do you want to be in 6 months? Leading the pack or playing catch up?
thanks for your time,
Big Jer

Well, that's something every FFXI player is going to have to decide individually. As someone who made the switch from FFXI to FFXIV, I'm perfectly happy with the choice I made, but the same might not be true for other players.

It's very important to understand that FFXIV does not have NEARLY as much content as FFXI does now. If that doesn't bother you and you are willing to let your character grow along with the game, then I think there's a good chance you'd be happy with the switch. However, if you absolutely need a lot of different activities to keep yourself happy, you might be better off waiting until they add some more content.

The game certainly has a lot of room to improve, but if you're the kind of person who is willing to play a barebones game while waiting for more patches, you'd probably enjoy FFXIV. I think the game has a lot of potential, we just need to give it some time for it to reach the same level as FFXI.

If you're still enjoying XI, I wouldn't jump to this right now. Personally, I don't play FFXIV much, still do once in awhile though since it is free for the time being. Some people will tell you the game is enjoyable in it's current state, but it gets old fast. I'll probably be more apt at recommending this game come ps3 release. Who knows, maybe the next couple content updates will sway to start recommending this game to people. As it stands though, I just can't say, ya! Come play! You'll have boat loads of fun.

@OP

every game has its bads when it comes out, as someone who plays 11 you may be able to relate a few things which I am about to mention

do you want content right out of the bag? cuz it wont happen, then again if you play 11, you dont get it there either. like 11 youll be spending alot of time leveling in order to get to a point where content will eventualy matter. as of right now, there really is nothing else(as of tomorow NMs get added), over time plenty will be added.

if you are gonna take your time leveling, youll have tons of time to get there, if you wanna race in leveling, well, itl still take you a while to level so you still got time.

most things that people like/dislike in the game are going to be completely subjective so its really hard to give you a fair answer on them(such as battle, crafting etc etc, either you like it or hate it, but neither is bad nor good, as can be said about any game)

I also made the jump from 11 to 14, and I enjoy it very much. Sure, they are working out some things now. But for the most part, it only lacks a little higher end content. I have some time before that will affect me anyways.

the game (imo) is very playable now. They already fixed a great number of things.

The problem I found with going to XIV from XI is that when I got tired of XIV and went back, XI looked like crap and I walked REALLY slow.

I really couldn't take it. So now I basically am stuck with XIV for better or worse >.>

People are complaining because they are simply not happy. The original problems that occured on release are 90% fixed.

People knew there wouldnt be content but they still joined and moaned and cryed.

I would recommend to any new player wait till PS3 release.

Absolutely no, other than a few necessary fixes the game is still the same tasteless, boring, and unfinished game that it was at launch. I highly recommend not purchasing this game, FFXI is still 8 years down the line a much more fun game.

Wow...that tells people absolutely nothing except "I played and failed at FFXI"

If it's better then how come I still play XI since release and have put XIV aside until it's a real game?

Let's see...

When they have implemented:

A) Better market system
B) More basic content
C) Better grouping features
D) Delivery box
E) More transportation options

Yes, at that point it would be worth it to make the move.

so is that the JP release or NA release? taking into account that FFXI was released in NA 18 months after JP and had a full expansion released so it had time to get content and bug fixes, i see alot of FFXI release > FFXIV release but thats one fact people seem to forget that fact.

And people crying about no content, if you want everything dont play MMOs at release, I have seen all content related comments even on release day, like people were planning to try endgame at rank 1. MMOs get content over their life not at once.

Also right now there are more important things to do with the game than focus on content, yes they should add some more but it wont be SEs complete focus atm
