What do you think of the crafting system?
I love it, leave it be. :34 (41.5%)
It can use some improvement, overall i feel i have control on my crafting process. :36 (43.9%)
Please use FFXI crafting system, i like my crafting quick and simple without controls :9 (11.0%)
I don't craft and never would. :3 (3.7%)
Total:82

I found crafting is a big chore, do SE want us to stay in game just to craft ?

Why can't they just leave players a choice of having crafting being random (remove the mini-games) or what it is now.

I hate the fact it takes well over an hour or three just to do like 4-8 crafting leves every day.

Polls hate me, whatever.

Either this is a Troll looking for flames or...

Why would you want to have something in a game taken out? If you dont like it, dont do it, leave it be. This way you dont have to go through the torture of doing it and people who do like it can do it at their pleasure.

Going to work to earn money for food, rent, utilities, clothing and entertainment is a chore. I wish we could do away with that. FFXIV crafting is very well designed. At present it is the primary saving grace of FFXIV second only to the graphics. We can be fairly sure that there will not be a flood of RMT bots crafting and even if you're not very good at the mini games you can always advanced. As opposed to FFXI crafting where you can spend three days farming two days crafting and get a grand total of .2 skill ups. Then sell the products you made over the course of the next month for a fraction of the price you would have gotten for just selling what you farmed. The only thing wrong with the crafting system is the lack of a search function on the wards. I'd love to make a bronze scythe so that I could harvest some flax and level my weaver but the blade is a rank 18 craft. If there was a search function then someone could sell a blade, I'd be able to find it and we'd both profit.

Poll Removed: No more than one per thread, please!

EDIT: Polls don't hate you, you need to be a premium member to make one though. And as for crafting, I personally like it - I think its more involved and honestly I can see dedicated crafters enjoying this system quite a bit rather than the old and tired synth > success/fail. I think soon as the economy gets going you don't need to craft if you dislike it - there's plenty of ways for money to make its way around and crafters need you as much as you need them so my vote goes to love it and leave it.

Agreed, it is a chore atm but they have announced changes that will help alleviate that; recently crafted shortcuts for example will reduce a lot of the pointless UI navigation when mass producing stuff

Bronze Scythe is sold by npcs in each city.

Imho Crafting is quite fun but it has way too big role in this game... It seems that everything boils down to crafting... You can't do ANYTHING without having to craft it or find someone who can.

Anyway, I have enough real life issue then going to mimic my whole real life into the game.

If they going to mimic my real life into the game, at least do it with a decent job. No it isn't even decent at that. why? every process of crafting is the same, beside different materials, you basically choose from the 4.

Make it interactive like more Wii games then, but i am sure you would throw your mouse at your keyboard after the 100th time you complete the same mini-game.

It is a chore, when you are just grinding away, clicking the same button when you didn't even need it. SE's job is to keep you the players inside the game while they already earning your monthly fee (well not now). But it feel like a jail when you have to work like a factory worker every day.

I am not saying we should have it all easy like WoW, i rather they give people shortcut on the easy stuff and make harder stuff harder.

My suggestion is give player a choice in configuration. You want to improve it, fine, go turn on manual mode. I want to just grind my skill then i want it random and fast.

I couldn't bare the fact it take 10 click + delay of say 3-6 sec. It takes a minute per craft without clicking the "request" or "clicking your materials"

Instead of making a half-*** crafting system, make it interactive with a shirt and actual needles and you stitch every points for those who argue with me. Let's see how they enjoy "getting closer to reality"

You can remove a crafting system, when monster will drop your armors and money. NPC sell items you need. Who need crafting anymore? It isn't like they give us a choose of dying specific color we like to our cloth instead of the choose 3 pattern color you can make. Seriously, i lived through FFXI 8 years without crafting, i am fine with it. I will use my AF.

Ok, if you looking for flames, you got flames....

Talk about what you know, dont start dishing something you obviously know nothing about.

1) As it is the further you go into a craft the harder it gets to succeed in a synth a few ranks above your so the higher you get the harder things become.
2) Extra douche points for bringing WoW, not every MOO has or needs to be compared to WoW.
3) the whole make it easier, they have done it, it's called Hasty Hands, go look it up and be satisfied.

In the spirit of making XIV crafting more like real life, have finished products visually reflect their quality. Barely scraped a synthesis with 7% quality? Bleh, that stitching is zigzagging all over the place and one sleeve on your acton is longer than the other. Also those pants are obviously subpar the way they flop around your feet like flares. Look at this guy, that hat is so snazzy it's clearly over 100% in quality. Superb. Bet it doesn't lose durability as fast as your knocked-together tat either. Noob. Etc.

Ohh tell me about it, I remember many a night where I have pulled out that spinning ginny as i was walking around at the university, dropped down on one knee and starting knitting myself a sweater. Worse yet was the amount of time it took me to actually go through everyone's pockets trying to find the right ingredients. It was horrible. Smiley: frown

A visual que? that would awesome, I wish they actually did that. Plus this way the crafters that are making good materials and signing their stuff will find more work.

Troll.

Not to mention just really really stupid. Crafts are classes now, same as any battlecraft. In order to switch to a XI system would require them to completely re-do a huge chunk of the game. No way are they going to do it, and it's just really stupid to think they would.

You don't like the crafting system then don't craft. Easy as that.

Unfortunately sub-defaulting here on ZAM only highlights these threads. Even if you have filters on the forums change the color of the thread title, screaming at you, "Look at me! I'm sub-default! You know you want to expand me so you can get your laugh in for the day." I actually think sub-default threads get MORE reads than normal threads.

The only thing I am annoyed by is the ever increasing shard and crystal requirement, as well as the lack of good rank up recipes for cooking. Once you get over 12 shards total per synth, it becomes more about getting shards than about actually synthing. I don't know, maybe I'm just frustrated by the 1.2k shards it takes me to get one lvl. It would help if you could pick the shards you get from leves, and if elementals were more common. But as for the whole "ditch crafting" proposal, give me a good, detailed alternative and figure out a way to reimburse me for the time I have spent and then I will take you seriously.

cooks at least have the option of fishing, but without that it really is a pain and i feel you completely on it
post 25 or so(when maple sugar becomes a useless recipe for exp) your stuck with either complex 7 material recipes, or fish.....

as to the OP, no no no, you dont scrap a full aspect of the game because YOU do not like it.

this seems to be the main problem with all suggestion givers right now, instead of a "solution" they want to scrap the system instead of making it better for them by working through it
its the same with the markets, instead of giving ideas to make them better we get alot of "i dont like it get rid of its"

caught my first shark yesterday at R21... fishing is going to help me get 30+ on both cooking and alchemy. As far as I can tell it is one of the only reasonable ways of going about it.

Right now it takes me about 2400 shards/rank and it's only going to go up. ****, I've ranked up alchemy from 14 to almost 26 almost entirely by converting crystals -> shards. Shards are a way to make sure that combat classes always stay relevant to the economy no matter what they're fighting. And with new market wards dedicated to crystals only, I expect to see a certain amount of deflation in the price of crystals and shards.

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of crafting. I just don't get much enjoyment from it. However, the system itself is pretty good if you ask me. They designed it well and I can see how it would be fun for others; it's just not my cup of tea. It's also leagues better than the XI crafting system, which is almost completely random. Having some measure of control over your success is vastly preferable. I think it would be disastrous to take it out. Crafting is an essential part of any MMO, and if people like it, why would you want to get rid of it? That seems silly.

Personally, I would prefer it if crafting were de-emphasized. As it is now, many people will say that you pretty much HAVE to craft, and I'd really rather not.

I don't want crafting to be nerfed because that would hurt the people who actually enjoy it, but didn't people rant back in XI when it came to subjobs about how they hated leveling a job they didn't like because they HAD TO for a job they did? (e.g. RDM/DRK or /NIN or /WHM)

I get that SE -wants- us to try different things, but I don't get why they are so insistent on making it practically mandatory to do so.

I would leave the crafting minigame system alone though. It's a lot more fun than making the results random.

I think the "you have to do crafting" issue is three-fold:

1) Items aren't easily found. This should (I say should because I will hold out on something more concrete until after future updates) be addressed once they implement the ward searches.
2) Populations. As everyone knows, linkshells aren't all that big. So there aren't many dedicated crafters in each linkshell. So it's more difficult finding crafters who will make/repair things for you.
3) Time. Of the dedicated crafters, how many are 30+? Probably few and far between. So making really good, high level gear is going to be a challenge for awhile until there are more high rank crafters who are better able to network and make ingredients for high level gear.

So hopefully once they get the next few updates up, we get some fresh blood, and we get more high ranked crafters the "absolutely must" craft should (there's that "should" again) diminish.

Hard to call someone a dedicated crafter at this point if they're not already rank 30+. Especially if they're focusing primarily on one crafting class. I would surmise that most dedicated crafters with one primary DoH class are in their late 30s/early 40s by now. Some are 50 of course, but they don't qualify as "most". I've got one DOH class over 30 and four more DoH classes between 25 and 30. Ranking up a DoH class is really quite fast and easy to 20, particularly since the Nov patch. It's just a question of whether people want to do it or not. As with most aspects of the game right now, the crafting system remains something in serious need of review and tweaking but it has potential.

I don't know that that is an entirely fair assessment. I see where you are coming from, but some people (such as myself) don't have very much time to play, so perhaps there are people out there who are "dedicated" crafters, but are still in the lower levels (20-25 would be a reasonable estimate) because they don't get many opportunities. I don't disagree with what you are saying, just pointing out that you are excluding some people who maybe shouldn't be excluded. Smiley: smile

Agreed, I'm a dedicated crafter (I've only got ranks in lancer and gladiator for crystals), my highest class is rank 16, but I've been ranking up all crafts (although I think I'm leaving culinarian at 10). I've almost got all other crafts to 15+!

I too, consider myself a dedicated crafter, but not a hardcore one.

Basically what most hinders my crafting the the shard restrictions as I barelly ever buy any. Almost all crafts of mine are through leves or my own shards. I'm here to enjoy the game, not to get to 50 asap and then have nothing to do. I also dont craft to the Gil so no point being one of the first to a certain synth so I can make Gil out of it.

The most thought I have given to ranking up ARM was to skill up on iron wire, rings, chain which has left me with a possibility of 30 haubys/cavalry.
